ABBA - Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! - Bass Cover
Музыка
I tune the low E-String down one step to match the D.
"Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A Man After Midnight) is one of Swedish pop group ABBA's biggest Eurodisco hits. It was recorded and released in 1979 It was written and composed by Benny Andersson & Björn Ulvaeus, with the lead vocal sung by Agnetha Fältskog.

But respect that they had enough guts a faith in it to keep that part extended. So many times I hear songs and they are afraid to "go over" and the cut a great segment short for time or whatever reason when it should have been longer. One comes to mind is Seal's "Crazy" heard clear on album version, there is a small segment with a powerful african drums. When I hear that it frustrats me because they treat it as a throw away. I would have centered a song around it. One thing I like about rap (one of the few things) is that they would find a segment thrown away and do just that: make a whole song out of it
Congrats man..amazing fucking work. People should see this video to realize how important is the Bass in a song...Thanks alot.

Don’t be. Practice. Break it down into the individual parts. You’ll get it. It took me years to learn the chorus of This Charming Man by the Smiths. The verse I worked out in an hour when I was 15 but couldn’t get the rest. Practice looked at tabs and listened.

I know this comment is 5 years old but if you haven't already learnt a few Bernard Edwards baselines (bassist on chic, sister sledge etc etc) you absolutely should!
I've always found it interesting how ABBA songs have strong basslines that make up a large part of the overall sound of the band and how when performing live, the bass player was in the wings, or even in one tv appearance, the bass player sat on the end of the front row of the crowd! Top video as always, definitely one of the best technical players on KZread! :D

Heard this song for the first time in years and that bass line slaps, so I had to find a video of someone covering the bass. Not disappointed. The bass is such an under appreciated instrument and by far my favorite.

Wicked Bother!! Very 70’s!!! Awesome times!
Was always a guitarist and now I"m starting to understand that most of the songs I really love are Bass songs! You match my taste. Awesome.
Bass played by Rutger Gunnarsson who played on all Abbas records. At the time in Sweden, playing for ABBA was not well considered due to the left movements and that music should not be commercialized and therefore Rutger and other musicians playing with ABBA had problems finding jobs outside of ABBA. That of course changed later on when the left movement lost their influence over the musical scene in the late seventies.
masterpiece! you're the one who made me able to hear full the bass line in this song. thank you dude! \m/
Great to listen and watch someone playing different music than what I'm used to listen!
Wow this is off the chart amazing change overs, picking , tight and so much precision .
Que coisa mais linda. Maravilhoso som e execução!.
Just amazing playing and tone. I wonder why the bass is never mixed more like this on original versions of songs? Adds such a dimension.

Luke McKELVEY I can't scan an email in a youtube comment - I can say that someone who contacted me on Facebook put me in touch with Mike Watson. I can verify the email address as it matched his website. Specifically about this track, Mike confirmed he played on Gimme, Gimme Gimme (and corrected me that Rutger, not he, played bass on Fernando). He said he used his 1966 Jazz bass which he bought second hand in 1970. He had changed the pickups to Schecter at this time. Mike also confirmed there were no charts at the sessions. If you google Mike, he has a website (in Swedish and English) and you can contact him through the site. You can see my article by googling Abba Bassists if you're interested. You can email me through my website.

Que som maravilloso, parabéns!!
I read that the bass was not played by Rutger Gunnarson in the recording but by Mike Watson "Little Mike", and that he also used a "1966 Jazz bass with Schecter pickups".
i was so waiting for this!
I like this song because 1. sound bass 2.vocalist dancing 3.lyrics 4. Because my crush like this song too
ABBA really had some great basslines.
Yes sweet indeed
As a quitarist, i've tremendous respect for basslines, i love how your bass sounds.
Killer groove and fantastic playing.
Having grown up as a 2and generation fan of this band, I'll never heard this the same way again. Almost binary in a manner of speaking, but complements the whole piece sublimely. Very influenced by Bernard Edward's I'd guess. After all, this was in disco's heyday.
