Elon Musk's India visit: Where can Tesla set up its manufacturing & how it can boost charging infra

With reports emerging of Tesla looking for prime commercial real estate for its showroom and Elon Musk-PM Modi meeting, the world's biggest electric carmaker is the nearest it has been to the Indian market. And with the government changing its EV policy to help foreign EV manufacturers set up shops in India, things are likely to move at a faster pace for Austin, Texas-based company.

Hybrids are the best fit for Indian market. India's infrastructure is not ready for full EVs yet. Not just because of insufficient charging stations, but because of insufficient electricity production in general. Also, electricity is not cheap here.

India is good in electricity production but problems come in distribution of electricity. Without good distribution infrastructure (DISCOM) ev charging station not possible in india 2024 Indian state DISCOM rating Only Gujarat have A rating Tamilnadu C rating In MH only Mumbai has A rating other parts of MH C rating Karnataka C rating

@@vijaykaramta2324 Distribution comes at the later stage. India installed capacity looks good only on paper, but in reality the actual production is far lower (half of the installed capacity). There are various issues hindering India's ability to produce electricity to full capacity, the biggest issue being unreliable fuel supply and some plants being in permanent state of outage due to lack of maintenance (no funds available to upgrade/maintain). Then there are other host of issues. Many MSME industries face outages during peak summer season because preference is given to household consumers and agricultural sector. And this is not me saying, there are plenty of reports - including GOI's own reports, that point to this problem. If we cannot supply our MSMEs and household electricity 24x7, where is the room for charging stations?

IMO, Tesla coming to India has more ramifications on our market other than EVs. Our energy storage sector is still in the last century while the Megapacks and Powerwalls of Tesla are years ahead. This is extremely important for a growing energy dense economy. Also Tesla s space program and its Robotics division can propel India into a tech superpower.

Gujarat would be preferred as most of Gujaratis have roof top solars installed helped by State Govt subsides. Gujarat could be Tesla's California.. Apart from that the green energy investments in Gujarat should be the preferred location, but yes we have Tamil, Karnataka and Maharashtra which are great locations too.

for most of the World, Hybrids are the most practical solution. Hydrogen based vehicles would be better for large public transport vehicles. cleanest, and since they have fixed routes... Filling in stations need to be limited and easy to deploy. Elon Musk is back to China, which means he gave India a thought, and rejected it.

need to be seen if these so called ultra capitalist entity makes agreement with some tenure provisions also included for the so called workers and high level roles which is far thing to think of , looks some metropolitan city might be chosen for this so called project but need to be seen how the impact of the EV technology are weighed and proper mechanisms incorporated with fair pricing policy factoring the terms around taxation, the various features etc of the end products and it doesnt be just another pass time in some multi millionaires accomodation, which might be case any which ways !!

@@wisdomhighschool9975yet thousands of combustion cars catch fire every month. The rise of LFP batteries coupled with good BMS is now safer than ever kzread.info/dash/bejne/dmyssMyzZ5bWaJM.html . BYD has demonstrated nail penetration test on its blade battery to prove the safety. Anyways, it all depends on the quality standards of battery & vehicle manufacturer so the government must regulate quality standard. Hydrogen on the other hand has very bad energy and volume efficiency making it a very costly gamble. Hydrogen production itself wastes a significant portion of energy in electrolysis, treatment of fresh water and compression. Btw the vehicle is more complex and requires expensive fuel cells AND a battery pack to deliver high power when required.
