As someone who actually applies to these places, that's complete horseshit. Elon/Tesla (and all these other tech companies that talk about not needing degrees) require MS/PHD for a lot of roles in tech even though the roles don't need them.

Yes, you forget the part from his quote after "I don't care if you went to college or not." It is "as long as you've built or done something worthwhile." That's the catch, the point of it all. Have something worth showing. Otherwise why hire you at all? The college hiring companies look at your CVs because it's a proven track record of your competence in this world. And Elon works on the same requirement of competence, only that college isn't the mould required.

@@SASMADBRUV7 Yeah, ik. These motivational pages online have gone slightly berserk with their anti college narrative. Every chance they get, they diss people going to colleges, and slobber over some "self-employed" group of people. While that's cool obviously, college goers are undeniably cool too. There's no need to diss on their efforts put in, to prove their track records. Mad world we live I.

I met you guys at a bar in NYC about 7 years ago through a mutual friend Cristina. We had great convos and now im here listening to you guys and going to forward this to my teenager because it so on point. I followed the track till 28. See the value in both...but you gotta put in the work and have an exceptional track record whichever way you flow :). Great work as always fellas🙌🏽

I mean, I think college should be way cheaper because the fact that you cant work through college and pay for it can make the value of college hard to back up. But for many people, college is a pipeline to a better life, more money or stability. I just think knowledge of alternatives should be encouraged, because there are lots of jobs one can do--make lot's of money, without getting into debt.

Considering how much value I get from when I went to college. I wouldn’t spend no more than 5k to $8k for a all 4 years. $200 online courses have made me thousands of dollars loñ

I do not know much about Elon Musk. But my siblings and I grew up poor. We lived in a frontier county with very little economic opportunity. When 3 of their 5 children got into state colleges, our parents were proud. We couldn’t have made it without scholarships, pell grants, work study, and fellowships. We were 3 of the first in our family to get a college education. First to get a medical degree (older sister). First to get a law degree (older sister). First to get a PhD and teach at a private school (me). I recognize this is anecdotal but college was life-changing for us.

I really love your podcast guys... This clip, is kinda of uncanny, lasty night me and my wife both got stoned and had a long 3 hour conversation on the educational system, how it felt like jail to us growing up, and nothing changed yet. We did some digging, and we really like the premisse of online schools such as synthesis.is really hope they grow to be a full larger privatized school.

Swear you have to have a degree to work for SpaceX and Tesla tho 🤷‍♂️ Get what you guys are saying as it is unnecessary for some people, but there are a lot of professions that require you to have a degree. Should of used another tittle for this video.

Yeah having worked there Elon may make it sound like they'll hire anyone competent regardless of degree but the reality is very much that for most positions they require degrees and I've personally known a few who were not promoted due to their inadequate degrees(masters, post doc, etc.)

It's going to be a lot easier to go to community college then uni for a buisness or stem degree. 1-3 hours of homework per day you'll probably get an internship. You'll get a good job before or right out of college. I fucking hate school but it's a lot more efficient than trying to teach yourself and prove to employers you can do the job. College is for workers more than entrepreneurs

Hmm, new way to prevent the vast majority of workers from ever being able to earn a decent income, other than the standard fallacy of 'a college degree': "A track record of exceptional ability" ... ... bell-curve tail exclusion right there.
