You really should not underestimate your brain, Musk is just blabbering about some basics of neural networks mixed with some unnecessary information to sound smart. His overall message can be summarized as technology is good, neural networks are complicated (and btw don't work 100% of the time especially in the real-world with complex tasks) - he doesn't need 6 minutes to do so...

It sounds what they have shown during the 2021 AI day for Neural Net based sensor fusion in vector space with multi cam support is still in alpha. This makes FSD 10.x even more impressive with a lot of heuristic based plumping code. I’m looking forward to using FSD 11

@@thomasreese2816 it was supposed to be NO intervention years ago. And recently they've made it clear that it may never be 0 intervention by the driver. So it won't be full self driving. It was a marketing trick and just a way to get investors excited and people dumping money into the company.

@@thomasreese2816 There's an article that came out last month by Bloomberg, titled: Even After $100 Billion, Self-Driving Cars Are Going Nowhere So not everyone agrees that this problem will be solved. Of course companies that are in this business will say it's going to work - why would they say otherwise? Uber gave up on its autonomous driving division. So have a few other companies. Here is an excerpt from an interview with the co-founder of Starsky Robotics (Stefan Seltz-Axmacher) - which was pursuing autonomous trucks: "Along the way, he also became a disbeliever, mainly because of the problem with edge cases, or solving for obstacles and other things on the road a self-driving car will encounter that it doesn’t usually do. That could be a deer, for example, or challenging weather conditions, but each case is different, and it turns out that it gets exponentially harder and more expensive for machines to learn them the rarer they get"

As someone working in computer vision, what Elon Musk rambles on about here makes no sense, it's just some cool-sounding mumbo jumbo ("Vector Space"? really?). If you want a sensible explanation of what they are actually doing, watch talks by Andrej Karpathy, Tesla's director of AI.

i have a basic understanding of computer vision and neural nets. what he said made sense to me. What i gathered was that instead of the neural nets outputting a tag for each pixel containing what that pixel may be a part of (like a curb or another car) the neural net is clustering those pixels and outputting the vector itself maybe as a set of points or lines or however they choose to define it instead of having to hard code in functions to convert those pixels and tags to the vectors. if you could educate me a little further on what doesn't make sense (maybe I am missing something), I'd appreciate it.

Yeah, the main innovation here is that their NN outputs 3D space estimations (aka vector space based on their terminology) using multiple sensor inputs instead of inferencing 2D pixel based on single camera and then projecting and fusing them in 3D.

I work in AI and what he's saying made perfect sense to me, teslas AI is much more than just "computer vision" especially the stuff implementing vector space /3D space estimations instead of just having a classification network analyze a 2D image(s) as is the case with a lot of computer vision.

I'd agree Elon is not the most well spoken guy and that Karpathy could better elucidate these things, but I grokked what he said in-between his verbal missteps. I'm not sure what Elon was like when he was younger when it came to communicating, but his mediocre verbal fluidity seems a bit like my random typing skillz. I can type completely different words to what I'm actually thinking and leave out all sorts grammar related things here and there. Yet I know my internal monologue isn't making these mistakes. In fact I'm shocked when I hear myself speak in recordings, in terms of lack of misspoken things. It's like I have two trains of thought. So you could say I empathize with Elon and feel inclined to cut him a lot of slack.....
