Have you considered putting water sensors in the server room? then when water is detected you can do an emergency shutdown of the power to the rack, pump etc. Also you could add a float sensor to the reservoir so if the water level drops below a certain level then you know you most likely have a leak.

Going to add this as an idea, under every critical point where water flows with potential escape, 3dprint or otherwise, And TEST, a leak catchment/runoff plane that sits just under everything to run to somewhere that won't be catastrophic. In linus's case, I'd suggest something similar to desktop rack shelves, sat directly under each server, with a path to one of the back sides of the rack that will cause water to run along it's surface safely to the floor, the next consideration is splashing on the way down, even a runoff tube or wire against the run off point but not attached to the edge of that plane to the floor as long as water can stick to it, it'll flow down that path, water tension should do the rest.

There are water sensors that automatically shut off the power for both when they detect water and for water levels (high and low). Never priced them just installed them. So don't blame me if they are something us normal people can't afford.

  • @Renegade605

    @Renegade605

For something with as much water as that rack, shutting off on low reservoir would be better than nothing but still have the potential for a ton of damage. I'd borrow a page from oil & gas pipeline leak detection. Flow rate measurement on the reservoir inlet and outlet. If they're imbalanced by any significant margin, you know you have a leak. Much faster response time.

he should add water detector and pressure sensor connected to a E-stop and Two state solenoids valves to isolate the loops ... once one loop leak , the pressure drops ... and a moist/water detector in each unit is cheap , compared to the several "Credits§" of damaged hardware ... At least 2 water levels should be present on the reservoir tanks with a 3 light bar : green ok , yellow :warning ( min level :top up (with intermittent sound) ) and red (to low/fault/leak) with continuos "smoke detector like/alarm " sound . For the ups repair video , Caution must be on the top priority , high tension/currents are present on the PCB's even several time is passed after de-connecting from main and batteries ...

Linus and Luke for the testing on battery away from wallpower it is a lot simpler (although not trivial) to implement, instead of using a robot to plug in the battery when necessary, you can simply use a switch to power off the input directly from the power outlet without having to manually remove the plug. Only hard part would be to implement a way to detect that the testing should stop to let the computer charge, but all of this would require no human intervention.

I do like my air-cooler still, but his most recent watercooling fail is actually a very interesting case of something failing that badly in such a short time. He talked about it not being galvanic corrosion, but I'd be thinking it's related to using the iodine. That the corrosion was on only one fitting, when those 5 lan computers are basically all built the same is really strange. Hopefully there will be some update on the root cause, since he is in contact with the makers on a much more personal level. (not a dig at EK, never used their products or support, I've no reason to think they wouldn't give the same support to any customer)

Linus, when painting your motorcycle wheels, you need to tape the brake rotor mounting holes. Paint will build on the surfaces unevenly and your rotors will not sit flush and cause pulsing while braking and even while riding if extreme enough. Also, when hanging the wheel, throw a bar as an "axle" and use a hanging line on each side. While your clear coat dries, you need to spin the wheel. Use gravity and the wheel's rotation to keep the paint from drying un-even. (Grew up in the motorcycle repair and painting industry with my dad owning his own shop)

You could get a timer or "smart" power point that activates for a period of time every so often so you can still automate tests but be running on battery. You could even run them sequential to a plugged in series of tests. Knowing that a test might take 30 minutes you could tell the timer to turn off for 30 minutes while the test runs then turn back on to recharge before the next test.

Ex Bouncer here, livestreams, photos & videos in night clubs is actually very common, not sure how the law works in Canada or the US be here in Australia it's not an issue. Clubs I worked at would always be taking videos and posting them on social media & ads. Taking pics of specific people needs permission but something like an shot of the whole club from the DJ booth or something does not. As for the "full" thing you absolutely want people thinking the place is full because it implies popular. I used to take my sweet time letting people in to make the line look bigger, it worked insanely well. When the most popular club I worked at we would have literally hundreds stand in line for an hour when we were at capacity.

A few times a year the shelves went bare, but it was the exception, not the rule. But they don't want their money sitting on store shelves so they make less than demand and then play catch up. The way to combat scalpers is to have *_MORE_* enough units for sale at launch. Make 150% of the stock you will need. Then nobody in their right mind will try to scalp a product. Edit: ty autocorrected nes to "new." Had to fix

If you're dumb enough to buy something on the promise that it will do something in the future that it doesn't do right now, that's on you. 2:25:45 Laughs in swiss, we just forced the incumbent ISP to build FTTH in a non competitive P2P infrastructure instead of P2MP (PON and its variants). So everyone gets a dedicated fibre back to the POP. And before anyone asks, yes it was decided to build P2P waaay back in the late 2000s. But the incumbent decided to not do that anymore in 2018/2019. Now he has to rebuild / fix the infrastructure he built since then. So we can actually have competition on L1/L2 instead of paying the incumbent for BBCS (Broadband Connectivity Service) and resell it. Also, 10 Gb/s or even 25 Gb/s cost like 70 CHF/Month on the P2P infrastructure. It’s a f*ing lie of all ISPs that the higher throughput should cost more. THEY NEED THE INFRASTRUCTURE ANYWAYS. So why not charge everyone the same? And yes the business plans of that 25 Gb/s ISP are not that much more. Depending on the SLA level and if you ned static IPv4, its about 150 CHF/Month. So a bit more than double. NOT 10x.

There aren't many examples, but EU Commonwealth has weighed in on the games being shut down without warning citing a few interesting points. 1) A service needs to have a stated duration for which it will be valid and you will be entering into a contract with the provider. 2) EULAs are kind of not great? Some might be illegal? Particularly since there is no way to defend yourself against the whims of the company. It is not a fair and balanced power between you two. 3) If a service was removed before the end of contract, then the company is liable for the loss of the service. False advertisement or not, this now comes down to contract law which is much more set in stone. 4) Games may be goods or they may be services. They did not make any determinations one way or another and as a result how your access to them should be handled is up in the air. Tesla never removed features, but they did sell people on some features that they may or may not have known were impossible. In their case, it would be advertising unless it was stipulated in a contract/service agreement.

Hell, I used to be a christian conservative growing up and in my early 20's, and I'm now on the left and am firmly an atheist. Tons of things I said when I was college age hold absolutely no bearing on who I am and what I believe now, including things like how much more likely I was to be selfish and wrong someone when I was younger vs how drastically less likely it is for me to think and act that way now. They did charge for the Hw3 computer upgrade but replaced the cameras for free. The upgrade in terms of active safety and supervised autonomy, while not meeting their lofty claims of level 4 autonomy, is still remarkable. After my 2017 model s was upgraded I was driving in traffic and the vehicle 3 cars ahead braked hard. I wasn't even using autopilot and my car recognised this and applied my brakes before either of the cars in front of me had braked at all, thus averting a multi car pile up. There are very few modern cars that could do this let alone any others from 2017. There should be some accountability but there is no denying this level of upgradeability does not exist elsewhere in the automotive industry.

Just going to share my 2 cents worth about FSD development. I’m not an Elon fanboy.. I just find the work being done & problem solving process at Tesla fascinating. V12 was a major shift in how HW3 worked. 330,000 lines of C++ vehicle control code was replaced with Neural Nets. The control code was being handled by the CPU & not the hardware specifically geared towards neural net processing. In the earlier years of autopilot & FSD development, perception was the first chunk of the problem that was solved with “AI”. Slowly but surely, more & more of the FSD architecture was eaten by AI, leaving the vehicle dynamics control programming which had grown to the aforementioned +300 thousand lines of code. Version 12 FSD had begun training sometime around December of 2022, with a somewhat viral demo drive in August of 2023 taken by Elon, Ashok Elluswamy & another guy I don’t recall. I bring this up because V12 leapfrogged V11 but had achieved more progress in less than a year than the 7 years of development since the dawn of the program. V12 is a fundamentally different architecture than everything Tesla had been doing up until that point, but the path taken was arguably necessary in order to incrementally build out the AI foundation ending in the replacement of control code with a neural net trained on millions upon millions of clips. V12 is now more fully utilizing the part of HW3 specifically designed for handling neural nets. A lot of this I’m sure most have already heard, but there is far far more information out there to learn about what has been going on with the autopilot team. Personally I’m still very much excited to see how good HW3 can get.

Water-cooling your computer won't make your room cooler. In fact, much more likely your room will be hotter, as it keeps your electronics cooler. The heat has to go somewhere.

  • @myne00

The room should be some minor bit warmer with water if the load is high and long enough. Water is only the medium to transport the heat from the chip to the room. A faster dump truck. Because it is more effective than air, the chips potential to use power will be higher. More watts = more heat into the room. Ergo, water is *potentially* hotter than air. Practically, in home use, they're probably near enough identical because the load fluctuates.

When I bought my Model 3 Performance in 2018, about 2 weeks later they dropped the price $5,000. I sent them an email and they literally wrote me a check for 5 grand (which is insane, any other car company/dealership would've told me to go pound sand). They also upgraded my "hardware model 2" to "hardware model 3" for free in 2019. So... it wouldn't be too crazy to think they'd try and make right somehow. People hate on Elon, and often for very valid reasons, but Tesla and SpaceX as companies are still really solid.

1:24:17 You could use a smart wall socket that would kill the power to the laptop. Nothing has to be physically disconnected. A laptop would have a background service that would turn off the power if the battery ran low to prevent the laptop from shutting down. I've made similar setups before

To be completely honest, I don't mind the tesla thing, like at all, honestly inference is the one thing about AI that I honestly believe you can have it run on lower and lower hardware effectively or in a similar capacity, sure focusing on hardware 4 makes more sense for pushing the tech forward and gathering more data, but I still think if the only thing you're doing on-device is inference, hardware 3 isn't out of the question for FSD, even LLMs are running inference on lower and lower hardware with GGUF and quants, I'm sure they can do some optimization for image recognition or in the worse case change out your car's GPUs or something, you're paying 10k for FSD anyway.

as long as its CLEAR that it's a promise not a current feature, thats KIND of on the customer too. the problem is when it's not clear that it's an upcoming feature ... I would never pay for anything that couldn't do the thing RIGHT now. Maybe thats just me... but buying promises and then being surprised just baffles me.

Probably wont get read, but will add anyway. testing laptops on battery only isn't as difficult as you may think, unplugging isn't a thing you just need an automated way to turn off the power at the wall. you can do that with your Christmas lights and cheap amazon wireless or Bluetooth plug,. This isn't reinventing the wheel just using something in a work from than triggers a cut off and then on again. You guys got this one.

Gotta disagree with Luke when they talked about the cameras to monitor if a store or gym is busy, he said “there’s so much more easier ways to check if the business is busy” Eh, nah, that would pretty much be the easiest way to tell if somewhere is busy. There are certainly less intrusive ways, but easier? How?

So many people take that quote and roll with it, he never said it can’t happen….he said it is harder. Keep in mind ALL FSD right now is all trained on the hw 3.0 computers- even the new hw 4 is limited to 3 capabilities and still amazing. Give the team time, they work hard- it’s not an easy problem.

As your resident friendly bartender viewer I will say, a camera makes sense for club going, people always get caught in clubs because of Photos, the average club goer really doesn't care about being filmed and photographed regularly and most clubs want to show when they're busy. This idea might actually take off and the clubs themselves will benefit from the recordings for advertising. I will say I personally agree with you, and it's got a lot of issues, but honestly, I know the industry. This makes sense.
