    i do like the direct drive. My board has hub motors at 3000 watt total and 90 mm wheels. The main complaint i have with large wheels is you are higher up which makes foot braking a bit harder. My standard longboard has 80 mm and is a drop-through which is easy to stop. Another problem with hub is that urethane tends to stick to metal and the result is the urethane sticks then let's go and you get a clicking noise. I now use silicone lubricant to prevent. Silicone is safe on plastics. Great video thank you.

    I still think outboard motors with a gear drive is the best way to go. makes fixing things and modding boards a lot simplier for most people! Love the video!

    I 100% agree, they need a smaller contact patch on the 110mm wheels. I had to switch back to my Abec11 90mm just due to the torque-boards having a ridiculously wide contact patch.

    it just makes everything look MASSIVE and I would use my ABEC 97mm reflys but there is not enough clearance IMO and I was finding a lot of damage to the motor cans after just 5 miles of riding.

  • @LeeWright

    @LeeWright

    I would say 97mm wheels are cutting it fine. You really want 110mm or above mate. They are quite powerful as they are.low kv but gearing is obviously 1:1. Worth a punt but I would say if you like the look. They are not for me

    What's the difference between hub and direct drive other than where the motor is placed, affecting wheel choice?

  • @LeeWright

    @LeeWright

    4 жыл бұрын

    Essentially yeah its where the motor is placed. With direct drive you get way more cushion from the wheels as there is much more urethane

  • @marzbitenhaussen
    @marzbitenhaussen4 жыл бұрын

    I like this idea of the motors at the same axis of the wheels, however the only problem I see si the proximity of the motors to the ground and the potential damage they will suffer in time, if you have experience skateboarding for a while you will know that even normal trucks get hammered hard by simply skating, imaging the amount of damage the motors in this case will get with regular use, other than that I think will be better in wheel drives just for protection of the hardware. I own a GTR bamboo for 2 years the trucks are completly scratched and worn from riding, these trucks are way higher from the ground than the motors in this video, hence my concern. cheers

  • @LeeWright
