I was born in 1961 and the "seventies" were a heady time to be alive as an ELO fan. Their NEW songs would come out and I couldn't wait to get my hands on them!!!! It seemed like every song they put out was wonderful. All these years later, I still listen to their music all the time.

Right there with you, born in 1962 and Jeff Lynn still sounds good. They made it look so easy, but bands did in the 70’s and there were SO MANY good bands of different styles. It was unlike any decade for music I remember. 60’s were different too though.

Born in ‘61 as well. Used to come home from high school and lay in dads easy chair with headphones on playing “New World Record”….over and over and over again. Pretty sure I wore a groove in the vinyl!!!

I just started listening to "Out of the Blue" all over again, after not having listened to it for 25 years or so, and can't stop. When I was a kid and started paying attention to music, "Telephone Line" practically jumped out of the radio and captured my imagination. "Can't Get It Out Of My Head" is such a masterpiece of a song.

This is the song, and the album (Eldorado) that got me big time into ELO in 74 as a teen. I had heard Roll Over Beethoven a lot of course on the radio but this song got me into ELO for good, especially thtough the 70s. Lynne had a knack of great instrumentation and arranging of pop rock songs. And Bev Bevan was a monster drummer.

this was the first ELO song I ever heard, when I was 17 living in Kansas and about to make decisions that would change my life forever. Now as a 52 year old grandmother still living in Kansas, ELO is still my favorite music. I don't think Jeff Lynne realized the Eldorado/Oz connection that someone in Kansas would have and I have heard he didn't even know what the ruby slippers where when the cocept for the cover of this album was shown to him. Thank for helping to keep the music alive.

ELO's string section could rock pretty hard live. This is probably the best actual live performance I've seen from this era. It's interesting they didn't do the slide guitar/synthesizer duet from the instrumental bridge on the studio version. I imagine Richard Tandy was probably busy enough with the mellotron choir.

I was in high school when this band was at the top of the heap. This particular tune is such a tribute to the great bands that preceded and influenced ELO. It's like Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band meets Abbey Road. For my generation, it surely doesn't get any better than that!

I didn’t even listen to music until about ‘78. I was 12. In the southwest area of the US, ELO wasn’t as popular as other bands. My first album was the Eagles. My next was ELO. After my first album of ELO’s (Out of the Blue), I bought all the older ones I could get my hands on and every new one afterward. I bought only 2 other Eagles’ albums. I like them, but ELO has been my favorite since I began listening to music. It’s like timeless magic.

I lived it. The 70s were great. Four years of the 70s (73-77) I was in the United States Marine Corps. During those 4 years, good times and very sad times. April 1975, the Marine Corps was involved in the Evacuation of Saigon, 2 Marines were killed during a firefight at Tan Son Nhut AFB outside of Saigon...then a month later May 1975, the Marine Corps lost around 20 Marines during the Mayaguez Incident aka Battle of Koh Tang Island Cambodia. But most of the 70s were good times, I dated a lot of young ladies. Semper Fi

Any Sat. night, mid '70s; around midnight, a pasture party, parked cars scattered around, this softly playing on a few AM radios tuned into 1520 KOMA Oklahoma City, everyone hanging onto someone, the only light are a couple of campfires, the soft music only interrupted now and then by a girls laugh, many with Coors or mini-Millers in hand. Good times, things made sense, love always in the air!

I live north of Dallas and in like 1970 I would turn on the radio at night and listen to the stuff WLS AM blasted out at night. It wasn't the million watt blow tourch the X down in Mexico was with Wolfman Jack, but it blew in strong. Was 9.60 AM or something.

Being 53 as well, we wandered along when the music industry really fragmented. In Dallas, in 1973 you could turn on KLIF the big am pop station for years and you might hear the stones, then Stevie Wonder, The Carpenters, and maybe Deep Purple. Then came the big album rock FM stations, and the top forty stations, oldies, soul, etc.... It got to the point that there were certain groups you didn't listen to if you were cool. ELO was a tweener, which meant it went top forty and not much rock play

Jeff's singing sounds so good live - I'm sure there are conspiracy theorists doubting him......

I wouldn't doubt it. Jeff Lynne has the most distinct male singing voice ever!

one day while watching a video from The Move i noticed Bev Bevan had a particular/peculiar way of holding his sticks. at some point he stopped doing this but i haven't quite figured out when, exactly. i see here he's still holding his sticks in his old method. musta been around '75/76 that this changed. but not that it matters, it's just a crazy thing that i look for now.
