Elmyra 2 - 2.2 Firmware Update: Exploring the new features

Музыка

The new 2.2 update for the Elmyra 2 was recently released and it ticked off almost everything I had on my wish-list in terms of new features - so, that's nice! In this video, rather than just reading out the release notes, instead I decided to put together a patch which just happened to make use of all of the new features in the update - almost as if I planned it.
Transparency notice: the Elmyra2 was kindly provided to me by Neutral Labs for free for the purposes of making videos on it. No editorial oversight has been provided to Neutral Labs and no other payment has been received. As always I'm only interested in featuring instruments that I'm genuinely excited about on the channel.

That oscillator sounds so strega like when the uncertainty circuit is turned up a bit. Elmyra seems like a fun instrument and the delay sounds so good!

Wonderful demo! I love my Elmyra 2. It’s really the thinking man’s groovebox :) That flying attenuator is superb, must get some of those.

Love your videos and very helpful for me as a novice. I just got mine this week and it sounds soooo fat. Running it through my cxm 1978 and H90. What a time to be alive! 😎

Thanks for your enthusiasm. I’ve searched in vain for any demo of the Elmyra’s audio input interface. Have you used this function in any of your adventuring videos? I’m especially interested in how an acoustic sounds could be manipulated. Cheers.

I haven't played a lot with the external input honestly - it only feeds into the Ouch circuit, so it'll be more about how the sounds mingle inside the distortion... I prefer to send the Elmyra into other stuff for the most part.

Very nice demo. I just got mine recently and I've yet to try the filter options. Interesting that you tuned by ear and did not use quantizing other than the built-in chords.

Thanks, I hope you have fun with yours. For drones I prefer to tune by ear (if I have the option) because it gives me the option to sweeten or destabilize intervals and any incidental quirks of the tuning often turn into interesting interactions between notes - especially in a slightly "crunchy" sound instrument like Elmyra. On my new EP (out Friday on my Bandcamp - excuse the plug!) even though it's all written on the Syntakt which is very quantized, I ended up tuning a lot of the parts by hand to highlight certain relationships between the notes playing.

Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge about elmyra! Has the new firmware a build in reverb and when yes, how does it sounds? Greetings and have happy holidays🖖👽

The original firmware has a reverb, and the new one still has it. It sounds pretty lo-fi, but with certain types of soundscapes it can work quite well, if you're into that sort of thing.

Are those passive flying attenuators from Pusherman? With all the ridiculous amount of Eurorack stuff I have, I never thought about using these. I have a pile of floating, passive mults, though.

They are, they're very useful and although I have a lot of ways to attenuate in my main rack now, if I just need to set and forget I often use these. Their 0hp lpg is really too too.

amazing! as a CV synth how u connect it to your pc regarding gear? if that is not much a problem for you. Im thinking on buying one and want to know what other gear id need tk play it 😅

You don't need to worry about it being a "CV" synth, it's just got a normal audio output. So you just need the right cable (mini jack to quarter inch jack, most likely), and pretty much any audio interface. I'm using an Arturia audio fuse, but, any interface will work. I feel like we've had this conversation before.

Somewhere I saw you could skip a beat when sequencing in latest firmware but can’t find where?

It's not in the official release notes - maybe it was something discussed as a possibility in a forum or something? There were a lot of ideas being discussed on elektronauts.com for example?

I haven't looked into it much honestly - but it sounds good and seems very flexible from the few demos I've seen.
