Elidir Trail Waterfall Walk in the Brecon Beacons | Including how to reach Sgwd Einion Gam

A vlog outlining the Elidir trail hike. A majestical woodland walk which passes three beautiful waterfalls, alongside a dozen other small cascades on the way to the breath-taking Sgwd Gwladus, a 20ft cascade of water which spills over an overhanging sandstone rock lip.
The walk isn’t at all difficult and would be suitable for young children. However even though the path follows a well-maintained trail,
it is slightly rocky in places and can get muddy so the appropriate footwear is required.
** Please note that Pont Melin Fach car park is currently closed until September so you will have to begin your hike from the village Pontneddfechan: goo.gl/maps/VjDn5jjDFrxbAs2b7
The vlog also outlines in detail how to reach the elusive Sgwd Einion Gam.
At 70ft, the 'fall of the crooked anvil’, is the second-highest waterfall in South Wales. Its imposing and encircling cliffs and lower set of falls make this waterfall one of the most impressive and mysterious within the Brecon Beacons.
Many don’t know this waterfall actually exists despite it being located half a mile upstream from the extremely popular Sgwd Gwaldus.
In order to reach it you must cross the river twice and navigate a precarious river bank. Take care when crossing the river, especially if there has been heavy rain.
As always leave no trace and take all your litter home with you.

Every time I launch KZread on my computer at work, it ALWAYS opens to the last few seconds of this video, like Groundhog Day, always the same point, always this video, always with you in your trunks, Diolch yn fawr iawn, just about to step into the water, then the stumble. I don't mind that at all. I'm a fan; love your videos. Just thought this was funny enough to share with you!

lovely video Chris - thanks for posting :-) I went to the Einon Gam a couple of times around 10 years or so ago. a very rewarding hike knowing that I was probably he only person there that whole day. no, I didn't go in for a swim!! second time there I took my sister who couldn't believe the hike we took to get there, but shared the same sense of wonderment I did when first hearing the thunder of the falls before they came into sight 🙂 ill health and disability mean I can no longer get there, so I'm so glad I made the effort all those years ago, and glad I found your video to remind me 🙂

Nice one Chris, this is what Derek the weatherman’s walks should be like, highly instructive and descriptive, instead of all those annoying people and activities he and all the other TV walkers take part in!

Sgwd Einion Gam is great for wild swimming, it's been great this summer with the extreme heat, I'd suggest it's going to be very full over the next couple of days after heavy rain. Great video thanks Chris - you forgot your socks at the end 🤣🤣

Hi Chris, really enjoyed the video and would like to join you on a hike sometime. Love the outdoors and the adventure. I was there today but my friends wanted to stay on a clear foot path. I wanted to cross the river to walk the other side of the woods like you did. I also love wild swimming too but don't know many who are brave to do it.

Avoid going after a heavy rain as the crossing become tricky and dangerous, I fell in last week attempting to reach it. If you do attempt to reach it after heavy rain make sure you have some walking poles or long sticks to help safely navigate across the rivers.

That is a cracking video Chris! Your video artistry really shows the Elidir Trail off for the amazing walking route it is. We only walked this trail ourselves in early April this year and in our opinion, it is the best of all the Brecon Beacons waterfall walks. Nice work!

Recently found your channel after finally walking to this waterfall. Have enjoyed catching up on your adventures. If you like waterfall hikes there is a good one around Blaencwm and Blaenrhondda which was featured on Weatherman Walking Series, where you can visit 6 waterfalls.

Great video mate! Went on this stroll today and unfortunately I wasn’t too keen on that last waterfall. Being winter and heavy rainfall this past week there really was no suitable place to cross. Went up and down that whole side of the river. Very slippery, sketchy, water looked well up to shin height and precarious. If your happy to get wet up to that height then by all means. Watch your step current looked strong and unpredictable at the time. Loved this stroll aswell as the Henrhyd Falls.

Awesome video, it was Perilous when I went very recently it was difficult with the water level, and the next week I would urge people not to try it, as I was over knee to crutch deep on the way for my swim at the falls, and next within the next weeks rain forecast the water would probably take you down the river ,

Congratulations on making it up to one of my local, favourite falls, and getting in for a swim. Try Henrhyd falls in Coelbren next. It’s 92 feet high and also has a cave behind that’s big enough to hold a dance.

Thanks for letting me know it’s still closed. I’m not sure what narrow pathway you speak off? The road leading to the car park is very narrow, but it’s not at all unsafe.Especially when it’s the only way local residents can access their farms and homes…
