In this video you'll see how the Rode PSA 1 is installed and the highlights of it compared to the Elgato Wave Mic Arm.
As standard these are the specs of the Rode PSA 1:
Thread Size 3/8"
Weight (g) 1740
Horizontal Reach (mm) 820
Vertical Reach (mm) 840
Minimum Weight Supported (g) 700 (1.5lb)
Maximum Weight Supported (g) 1100 (2.4lb)
3/8” to 5/8” adaptor included
See the official page - www.rode.com/accessories/stan...
See the manual here - edge.rode.com/pdf/page/202/mo...
In the box you get a 3/8” to 5/8” adaptor which will let it install with most microphones.
Highlights of the Elgato Wave Mic include a clever design with a solid mounting. It has a brilliant cable management system that lets you hide the cables away. There's a ball head mount which means it's easy to get your mic into any position. The riser system means you can get it up and off the desk, even over your monitor. There's a counterweight included so you can compensate for the mic's weight and it also has 1/4" to 3/8" and 1/4" to 5/8" Adaptors so you can fit the majority of mics.

In the end, the Elgato Wave Arm is my favourite for mics, but the Rode PSA1 is useful for other things and seemingly able to handle more weight without dropping.

In the PSA1 as cam mount video you mention in the video 2kg capacity of the PSA1 (and same people report higher), but in the specs it's listed at 1.1kg. What is it? How heavy was the setup you had there with the camera? Do you have a guess of the maximum weight (reliably) you could use in the PSA1 and the Elgato Wave arm you tried? Thanks!

“Rode PSA1 Swivel Mount Studio Microphone Boom Arm” ruled studios for quite sometime and now it’s “Elgato Wave Mic Arm - Swivel Suspension Boom” ‘s turn I guess! But the Elgato wave mic arm is still a hard to find item, atleast in the United States!

You also can tight the screws of the elgato on the articulations. It should fix your problem with it.

Thanks for the review! Could the Elgato Low Profile mic arm be used for the Elgato FaceCam? I’m considering having a side view Keyboard cam for streaming, and just trying to figure out the best way to achieve that.

Does the Wave Mic Arm have a 1/4 female to 3/8 male adapter? Or is the one shown different?

Great review, thanks. I just got the Rode PSA1+ and it addresses a few of the shortcomings you pointed out with the PSA1. For example, the min. weight is now 94g instead of 700g... a huge improvement for versatility in my opinion. I have my HyperX Quadcast S on it, which is a fairly light mic, and it works beautifully (unlike the crappy Blue Compass). The PSA1+ also looks a bit better, with the neoprene coverings and no visible springs. There's a rudimentary cable management system on it, but it's still not nearly as elegant as the Elgato arm. I've actually found the clamp system to be very stable and easy to set up. I find it more stable than the Blue Compass, which was quite wobbly for me, presumably because it's tall and thin. I actually didn't know about the Elgato arm before getting the PSA1+. If I had, I probably would've gotten the Elgato, simply for the price and cable management. But I am happy with the PSA1+. EDIT: I just realized the arm you show in your video with springs is not the PSA1.

@@TheProvokedPrawn Old comment but this also caught my eye. I think he was talking about the clip from 8:05 to 8:27 which looks like some cheapo Neewer boom arm with external springs & without the mentioned velcro rather than PSA1 which is shown rest of the video. Just a minor thing though.

You actually show the wrong boom arm when talking about cable management...Good review otherwise.....psa1 is a solid mic arm I like the fact that which ever way you put it .....it just stays there I use it with a procaster .

Yeah the review is fine and seems true.. except for the fact he showed the wrong boom arm in between and saying it has "exposed springs"
