They all sounded great. Another mic that might be worth comparing the to is the Fifine k688. It is an $80 USB and xlr dynamic mic.

I love its features and im honestly thinking about replacing my rode nt1-a even though i have no issues with it, but im always a fan of beefier hardware with smart features that in return lets us get rid of some third party softwares that run in the background. I am a vtuber for example and i already have a billion programms running in the background for every stream lmao.

I've been really into the new Logi Blue Sona. It just looks and sounds so dang cool Out of all the ones you looked at today, I think that the GOXLR mic might be my favorite. They all have a decent out of the box tone and have decent directional sound capture that can be polished with some EQ and compression to sound amazing.

The rode pod mic is still my personal favorite for the balance of sound and voice pic up but the wave DX is probably my second favorite.

I think it's so interesting to see how Elgato has evolved as a company over the years. IIRC their original products were never intended to be used for video games. They sold capture cards for recording video from cable TV. But then gamers found that they could use the capture cards to record gaming content, and it seems like Elgato took the idea and completely pivoted once they realized the potential of that marketspace.

Dear lord that "8 inches" got me choking on my morning coffee! But yea I agree, it feels like its just Elgato giving their brand loyalty another thing to buy. Sounds good, but hard to beat the look of the GoXLR.

I purchased the Elgato Wave 3 microphone after watching your video about it. I've been really enjoying the mic quality for such a microphone and received compliments from other streamers for the clarity of my voice. Plus, the Wave Link interface has been a real blessing to separate and balance all my sounds. I gave my old Blue Yeti microphone to my boyfriend, but eventually we hope to have a second microphone for him. This new dynamic microphone from Elgato seems pretty neat, I love the unique shape this company gives to their microphone, thank you for this quick first hand review of it!

Think you’re spot on why they developed the mic. I kinda wanted it after seeing the launch today but now I want the GoXLR mic, or maybe I’ll get both, since I have both the Wave XLR and GoXLR 😊

I think what Elgato should make, is Elgato Wave Mixer to control Wave link, or better software (by elgato ofc) like beacn mix create and their software. That would be so awesome! Physical faders and/or knobs and buttons.

@@wafu6058 I meant for volume control etc. Ofc vst's are great and that's the way to do it. But I wan't to control, for example, volume with physical fader or knob. Personally I would prefer faders.

He did that years ago, and other than software that comes with certain mics, it’s not really something that will become outdated. USB mics a bad anyways, at least most of the time

Thank you for all your hard work to keep us up to date on what's new and if they are even worth it. I have this microphone by Maono and they just dropped dynamic microphone called PD400X. I was wondering if you could do a review for it maybe even their AME2 Audio mixer.

I might have to check this out! Looking to expanding and upgrading my setup to perfection

Personally I thought the MV7 and GOXLR mix sounded much better than the other mics you tested. I’m sure they all sound similar once EQ’d though.

Seems like a good affordable option compared to other mics and it does sound good in comparison to those other mics that are priced higher. Might become one of those Elgato only streamers!

Color me surprised. I had asked elgato on Twitter a while back if they were planning on coming out with a dynamic microphone and they told me no. And yet here we are. Pretty neat, especially at it's price point. Definitely seems like they released it to specifically pair with the wave XLR.

I hope thats all for your new AND old followers and subs ;) and its exactly as I imagined it, that it will be quite equal to the rest. I only heard quite a difference to the sure, which was a bit more boomy

Currently using the pod mic with wave xlr, sounds really good with a bit of EQ. Also the premium design at 100 bucks is nice, it is beefy though.

PodMic can be had in my country for $160, and the Shure MV7X at $202, BUT the Wave DX launched and was available at $96. Odd that as time passes here, things get more expensive. So yeah, picked up the DX with no hesitation, and no questions asked.

Looking forward to the Wave DX! It sounds pretty cool. I'm running a Maono Fairy Au-903 condenser mic on my stream. If somehow I win the Wave DX, it'd be great to pit them against each other and compare the two.

Also, I really like the Rode best, tied with the GoXLR and the Elgato. I like that the Rode has a nice flat sound to it... the others seem to have a bit of pre-EQ... the nice flat response to the Rode lends itself to a better post-EQ setup imho.

speaking of all Elgato setups if you click "buy" on the Wave DX it gives you an option to get a fullsetup with the Wave XLR, LP arm, Wave DX, and an XLR Cable al in one. Subtracting some cost too

Fifine just dropped the K688 a couple weeks ago, dynamic usb/xlr mic for 80 bucks. I got one and I really like it

I wish you had done a direct comparison against the other Elgato mics in this video.

Any plans on doing a best sub-1k camera video (Mirrorless, not Webcam)? I'd be very interested in the best cameras in 2022 or what you expect to come in for 2023 for this price point.

Good review. Even though elgato didn’t make a top microphone, I like that they offer many products with content creators in mind.

i have the mv7 and what i like is i can use it on a laptop or use it through a mixer on stream so you have that flexibility. Also if you don't WANT to buy a mixer right away you can get an MV7 use it in USB mode and then upgrade later to use it with a mixer

also through my dt 990s the MV7 and goxlr sounded a bit better than the other imo

I'm mainly doing online teaching job, and I'm pretty satisfied with how my headset microphone is working on my PC, although when I switch to laptop, my microphone sounds much worse, it goes directly through 3.5mm and not two separate ones for audio and microphone... So is it worth buying a separate microphone (USB) Or just an USB to 3.5mm adapter?

Would love to see a video on a way to perhaps eq microphones for discord and streaming, it all looks very confusing, and id love to get the most value out of my mv7.

I wanted to ask how you feel about its build strength compared to like an SM58, and then you dented it already.

Just found your videos tonight and like the comparisons you do, I am wondering if you have any suggestions for a good mic that has good quality sound and can be off screen so not up close to your mouth.? I hope they make a USB dynamic mic someday. I want to keep using elgatos software without needing a separate module.

Elgato already makes everything else for streaming and broadcasting so it makes sense they’d make a proper dynamic microphone to pair with their Wave XLR. I have a strong feeling their next Wave product is going to be a Wave XLR Pro with knobs to control inputs.

Is Blue Yeti still a good choice in 2022? Does it hold its own against the other similarly priced usb mics?

i dont know if i would call Elgato's product line an ecosystem exactly. Like, if you are invested in the apple ecosystem, (watch, phone, tablet, laptop, etc.) and then want to switch to an android phone, your watch immediately becomes a paperweight. whereas if you get the wave xlr and the new dx and then want to switch, you still have the option to and you only need to replace the product that you want to replace. No need to go out and get an entire new audio setup.

Honestly, with the Wave DX it sounds like I wouldn't have to do much in the way of plugins. Might pick it up just for that convenience honestly.

I really appreciate the rectangle design with rounded edges Elgato and Logitech have been doing with their Dynamic Mics lately. For the price it seems like an amazing option for newcomers and with your point about Elgato bundles, I certainly agree that they're about to be able to do that with great success. Elgato GoStream Bundle with their greenscreen, their sound interface, their mic and mic arm, their capture card and their webcam for a "slightly discounted price" to make such a high investment worth it.

The first two sounded pretty much the same to me, and at $99 I could go with either. The Elgato software might give the edge, but still, good sounding mics. || Thanks for the giveaway opportunity, Harris!

Brutal unboxing Love it

My wife wants to get into streaming with me and she would need a decent mic so worth considering just never used a dynamic mic before so this would be interesting to try out and seems like a good option to start with.

I actually wore a headset just to listen to this video. IMO I am torn between the RODE or the Elgato due to its price but I will try the Elgato because I want to see how it will play out with my focusrite. Also, I followed the YT and TW pages before so I'm all good.

I have had the Procaster a long time, and maybe it's just me, but I found the weight of it to be a constant annoyance on my mic arm. Lots of drooping and repositioning. Really could be something I fudged setting up the mic arm. But these lighter mics are looking very appealing to me now.

Honestly I’ve been looking for a mic for a while and this one seems awesome. For the price it’s a steal.

@Senpai I have a Rode Podcaster, the USB one, and it sounds awesome until I raise my voice when reacting to something on stream. When I get loud, it gets that "tinny" sound. From what I can tell its the limitation of a USB microphone and I am happy to go XLR but will I still have the same problem?

Just wanted to let you know (no one knows why because according to Shure they are the same internals) but the Shure MV7 using the XLR output and the Shure MV7X sound different. MV7X sounds cleaners than the MV7 using XLR

I just realized he was using the MV7 instead of the MV7X. I only noticed it because the MV7 has a usb port and a audio jack in the bottom. Cost a little more, but you get some nice features with it.

Looks like a revised Rode PodMic (which I'm using now!), I'm still enjoying the PodMic with some nice VST's and EQ'ing - just goes to show how much you can get when you scratch the surface. 🥳

Trust me, I’ve used wave 3 and 3 other dynamic mics and they are all better than wave 3.

Seems like with some good eq settings it can be made to sound great. But so can all the others. Be sure to watch this video with some good headphones. On a cellphone speaker they all sound really similar to each other.

I have the shure mv7 but im thinking on selling it and buying this el gato wave dx what are your toughs i know the mv7 is more expensive.
