Wow, something similar happened to me in Thailand, an elephant was so I happy when I fed him, he looked at me straight to the eye, it was like telepathic communication, it was an amazing experience I'll never forget

I just checked on Google, “do elephants cry?” Obviously I didn’t research it but the first thing that came up said it looks like they do. They grieve like people. Dogs and cats grieve too, they may not know about death, but I’ve had pets they notice when their buddy is gone. They know something isn’t right.

I wish Lex would have asked Paul his opinion on bringing back the wooly mammoth. I think is thoughts and comments would be really interesting

The part about the keys and buckets being "human problems" and how we should admire their ability to navigate elephant issues is not only fascinating but also inspiring.

So intriguing, really enlightening. Makes me really think how we treat the animal kingdom.

How we treat animals, especially farm animals on factory farms is the most disgusting thing us humans do. They are so much smarter than we realize yet we torture and treat them like than are robots. Pigs are so smart and will have heart attacks when they see other pigs killed for food.

Populations of lions, tigers, elephants, rhinos have all been increasing in India in the last 2-3 decades. The world needs to catch up.

It breaks my heart knowing how humans have destroyed so many beautiful animals!

Elephants get jealous envious and will actively seek revenge.. not just simple revenge but to publicly humiliate for all others to witness. Elephants also have a need for validation and appraisal 4 accomplishments and often attempt to re enact an accomplishment In show off . Elphants also find beauty in others and hygiene

I love this so much. I think we way underestimate the different forms of intelligence and consciousness right here on Earth. Humans are unique, sure. Every species is. We might think our version of unique is the best or most interesting or most important, but we would, wouldn't we? This is just beautiful.

Last year, they traded/sold the daddy elephant before his baby was born. Hurt my heart. Your stories of your adventures are heartwarming. Thank you for sharing.

If elephants had 2 trunks they probably would have technology equal to our own. They are incredibly intelligent and empathetic, not only towards their own kind but other species as well. They will break into a villages to steal some elephant bones to return them to the spot where the elephant originally died if it was from their group. They will also cover dead animals with branches and leaves. They even have a mineral mine that's been active for hundreds of years because it's the only source of salt and other minerals for dozens of miles around.

@@damaisjjel Unfortunately I don't have any books or documentaries I can recommend. This is just info I've heard about over a couple of decades. There's video on youtube of the mine. There's plenty of documentaries on animal intelligence that have sections on elephants. Best I can do is find the elephant episode of a show called Inside Nature's Giants, and a real science channel episode they did on animal communication progress. Personally I don't think elephants have the mouth hardware to be able to speak a language, especially since their vocal communication seem to be at a lower range than humans can hear. Perhaps something more like the pet buttons (i.e. billiespeaks) or simple sign language.

@@damaisjjel You could make the argument that most animals "know" things we don't. Tons of animals communicate in crazy ways we can't even begin to pick up on (chemically, pheromones, hive-minds, ect.). It is very tricky for humans to navigate this kinda stuff because we gage how "intelligent" an animal is by comparing it to human intelligence we can understand. We don't see or understand I guess is a better word the intelligence that many animals utilize when overcoming their daily problems. This video shares some examples in Elephants. Super fascinating stuff.

This behavior reminds me of dogs, and how caring they are.

I believe Elephants and especially Orcas are definitely as smart as people just because we cannot understand them we believe ourselves to be superior.

Based on what? How have you studied and researched that exactly then?

@6:16 there is a value in a Peacocks (whatever you call it) tail feathers, because if a Peacock puts it's tail feathers up, and presents it to you from behind, you won't know it is there unless it wants you to know it is there. Or obviously if you are specifically looking for that exact thing. An opportunist predator would not see it, and all the evidence you need for that is to have 1 Peacock hide from you once.

I was staying near a sanctuary that had Peacocks in it, I would walk through there every other day, and a Peacock had its plumage up in a corner, against white painted walls, its rear facing me, and I didn't know it was there until it turned around. It might have been flexing on me, because it didn't move until I started to walk past it. Smart a$$ little ****. XD

I remember visiting the zoo for the first time when I was so young. The elephant was chained up and was fed by the keepers. This one big one walked over to our side of the fence, picked up some plants near the wall with its snort, ate it and then look straight up at me and started tearing up.

So sad. Yeah, zoo's are a tough call. I can only deal with them if they provide the biggest & most natural environment possible & knowing specific animals are actually in a better environment. I'm amazed that people are amazed about animal intelligence & emotion. Every animal feels, everything alive senses the world around it. If a person stops & watches any animal on land, sea or sky you see independent intelligence & a personality. It may not appear so due to our perception but scrub that clean & its plainly obvious we aren't simply watching automatons responding to inherited instincts only. Orca for one are amazing integrated societal pods, every mother teaching their young, young sibling animals play fighting as learning & just simply playing also. They just interact within their environments whereas we adapt & destroy the environment for all creatures. Another perception is superiority & we are superior by perception & what measurement? Humanity?

Unfortunately, zoos will be the elephant's best chance of not going extinct within the next 30 years. I just hope that soe one with tons of money can acquire the lands needed to keep a herd healthy and happy - preferably in a country thatvalues thier lives.

I wonder if we all come from the same organism and millions of years just made us so different depending on certain situations. Some animals eyes look so human it's weird

I remember reading about a circus elephant named Rosie, she would sneak into the circus at night drink all the lemonade eat all the popcorn ,she would pull up the steak that she was chained to handmaker way into the tent by undoing the rope on the flap and then retiring it on our way out and putting the chain in the spike back into the dirt so nobody would know😂

I remember in Thailand one rougish teen-elephant named Lula was keep sniffing me, and the keeper said she likes me a lot. It was and will be the greatest compliment in my life that helps me in my darkest times😂❤ It's crazy how oblivious the difference between their personalities even after just 10 minutes of communication.

Watched a video last njght about an experiment that was conducted with a mirror to see if elephants are self aware. Tney put a mirror in the enclosure to see how the elephants reacted to seeing thier own image. At first they had the typical animal reactions, fear, anger, curiosity. But soon they began to realize what they were seeing. They would stand in front of the mirror and look into their own mouths. For some reason that fascinated them. But just to confirm that theyreconjzed themselves in the mirror they marked one elelphant with an X on her head. As soon as she saw it in the mirror her trunk went right to the spot on her head and sne examined the mark. Undeniable evidence of self awareness.

so many people are jealous for his experiences... so they need to say that he talks exaggerated or even lies...

Yeah, the part about poachers taking the last ivory tusks on the planet made me feel anger and anguish.

Reminds me of my dog Bo. So smart, loyal and loving.

Other species are intelligence it self , they dont need to create external things to survive ,they are one with nature , they are complete and have not stepped out of the natural cycle of life , we lost our instincts ,our most precious thing

tuskless male elephants are called "makhna", they are very big n very powerful n they can easily beat up a tusker, and makhna's (tuskless elephant) are very social n can be found in herds too, probably that elephant dharma was betrayed by his herd or maybe humans caught it i guess, but makhna's are very big n extremely powerful compared to a fully grown elephant with big tusks n can easily deafeat a tusker

its whales, dolphins, elephants & then HUMANS on the conscious scale their ESP is way greater then ours and it’s beautiful to learn

I saw a video the other day, some pickup truck didn’t back off from a bull elephant and he flipped it over like an empty cardboard box. It’s also amazing how when one of them passes away the grieve over them for like days. They feel love I think.

I remember a test they did with 2 elephants. There was food on a sled and 2 ropes. They had to both pull on a rope to get the food. One elephant was just like. Really? This is child’s play. And he stood on his rope making the other elephant do all the work.
