Let's not forget the biggest dealer of explosion damage lottery bob-omb. His explosion is so deadly, it results in a game over. It's so rare for him to do this though as you'll really need to anger that bob-omb for that to happen, and only way that happens is if you try to turn the time on the gamecube backwards instead of fowards

what?
So basically Cortez's gem has -1 impiercable defense, if that makes sense.

Well like a P-up D-down kind of defense.
You can make Mario's attacks do poison damage using AR codes. I think it would be neat to see how poison puffs react to poison damage.
@Miccat87
Жыл бұрын
Yeah, I'm not that familiar with AR codes. I had considered trying to confuse poison puffs and see if I can get them to use their poison breath on each other, but it would be quite a hassle, since they're only located at the very bottom of the pit and there's a good chance they can't do that anyway.
In MegaMan Battle Network terms, "None" is an element type, and all attacks that aren't Elec/Aqua/Fire/Wood are said to be None Element. So Cortez's gem basically "takes +1 damage from all elements, including None".
01:09 - I had no idea that Embers could multiply!

This was an incredible video, I love Paper Mario and this channel has some seriously underrated content
Interesting vid! I've always knows about fire and ice, and I knew explosion blew up bob-ombs, but I never pieced it all together that there are four elements.
Had no idea lightning attacks healed ruff puffs or ice attacks healed ice puffs. Cool stuff!

Maybe its because I've been a big rpg/dnd fan ever since I was a kid but I always assumed that was a given. If you find a monster in a lava mountain, don't use fire and use ice to weaken it etc etc.
Now this is the content i love
This video is preparing me for PTYD Hero Mode.
Fire seems particularly effective on Grodus’s staff.
@Miccat87
Жыл бұрын
His staff doesn't actually take any extra damage from fire. It just happens that Fire Drive is able to target it in addition to Grodus himself. There are other moves that can also specifically target his staff.
Wait, so Shade Fist isn't a fire attack, despite burning the target if performed successfully? That's weird.
@Miccat87

Yeah, it's not fire. If you tried using it on an ice enemy for example, it'd do the usual damage.
It's interesting to me just how underutilized electric element is in this game with most enemies being neutral to it, and nothing taking extra damage from lightning. There's also that erroneous description for Thunder Rage which claims to stun enemies when it never does. But I think the most underutilized thing in TTYD is the very rare Alergic debuff which is strangely granted by Space Food which I never knew when I played TTYD as a kid many eons ago.
@Miccat87

Yeah, Allergic is very rare. Only Space Food and the Shadow Queen can inflict it.
Wait Bob-ombast GROUNDS flying enemies?!

Yep. It also can flip enemies over if I remember right.

Casual player here, for such a long time I've wanted to get into PM ttyd challenge running. What would be the best way for someone like me to get into this sort of thing, Miccat?
@Miccat87

I'd suggest starting with some beginner friendly challenge runs, such as BP Only or vanilla Pre-Hooktail Pit. Also, it might be worth checking out the Paper Mario Challenge Running Wiki: pm-challenge.fandom.com/wiki/Paper_Mario_Challenge_Run_Wiki It includes a list of common challenge runs as well as a link to the community Discord server.

@@Miccat87 Thank you kindly.
I don't think I've seen a non-elemental weakness in another game before
This is great! Is there any information on status weaknesses as well?
@Miccat87
Жыл бұрын
I'm not totally sure what you mean by that. I covered weaknesses due to elements, such as fire being good against ice enemies in this video. Are you referring to enemies being highly susceptible to certain statuses, such as freeze or confusion?
@Ikine557
Жыл бұрын
@@Miccat87 Yes, that's what I meant. What enemies are particularly weak to sleep and dizzy and stuff like that. Aren't piranha plants weak to sleep or something? Or am I making that up?
@Miccat87
Жыл бұрын
@@Ikine557 Every enemy and boss in the game has a pre-determined % chance of being afflicted with any particular status effect. MarioWiki's TTYD bestiary includes the exact percentages. I normally wouldn't recommend using MarioWiki as a source of information, since it's known to often get facts wrong, but the numbers it provides in its bestiary appear to be mostly accurate. Looking at it, you can see the piranha plant enemies are indeed highly susceptible to sleep. In fact, all of them have a percentage of 100 or above. I've made use of this weakness in Pre-Hooktail Pit runs, where Sleepy Sheep can be great at incapacitating them.
Does electric property also applies to electrified buff?
@Miccat87
Жыл бұрын
As far as I know, the electrified status doesn't really have any elemental properties. I guess I could be wrong though. The only enemies it would really come into play with are Ruff Puffs and Bob-Ombs, as other enemies that are affected by the lightning element don't make physical contact.
There is kind of an earth element being with the clefts and earth tremor being super effective against them
@Miccat87
Жыл бұрын
Earth Tremor deals the same amount of damage to Clefts as any other enemy, so I'm not sure what you mean when you say it's super effective against them.
@ogre589
Жыл бұрын
@@Miccat87 He could be referring to how Clefts are susceptible to attacks that flip them like Pow Blocks or Quake Attacks though I'd personally attribute that to them being pierce attacks with a tradeoff of being useless to flying enemies.
@Miccat87
Жыл бұрын
@@ogre589 Yeah, I wouldn't consider flipping to be an elemental property.
@ogre589
Жыл бұрын
@@Miccat87 i know but this could have been what they were referring to when the idea of the "earth" element
I know your using fire moves against embers to show an example, but nobody would EVER do that under normal cercomstances
But if they are all made of paper, shouldn't everyone be weak to fire/j Also it be interesting, but it also kinda suck if bobbery was one-shot by fire, explosion, and electric attacks
@Miccat87
Жыл бұрын
Well, Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam makes it so paper enemies are weak to fire, so that is actually a thing in the context of a world that's not made completely out of paper. Also, yeah, it would be logical for Bobbery to work like that, but it would obviously be a pain lol.
And then there's blast element **everything is weak to blast element**
hi :D
