I like the windshield effect. Now you need to add the water spots from the sprinklers that hit the truck on the one side as it was parked on the street.
I did this once with a proline 78 Stepside. The paint under the lexan was a mix of copper and silver. The top coat was white. I took it to my regular spot, drove like an idiot and let the rocks scrub off the white. I can tell you, there is nothing like real rock rash. Your rust pitting looks awesome!

Really cool to see someone doing this from the factory. I've been using the dual paint method (And your other methods) on my trucks for years, they are very convincing.
I have the original Trailwalker. Still have the 1.55 rims and tires, probably look into getting some 1.9's. Glad Element brought this truck back!

I used to do this on my first scx10 that was converted to leafs by RC brothers parts. I just used a slight silver color under the body. Run the truck for a bit and do some rust where the scratches and scrapes occurred

Sweet! Love it. Love my original Trailwalker, but it’s definitely a shelf queen modelled after the pickup we had when I was a kid (with the optional canopy on the bed). FYI, the original Trailwalker did come with the roll bar in the spare parts bag. I like the 1.9" tires and the aggressive trimming on the Black Edition. Will definitely pick one up and make it my first weathered body. Hopefully the inner fenders still fit those wheel wells. This is why I love Element RC. Every release is like, oh wow, I didn’t see that coming. They keep finding novel ways to iterate on a proven, capable chassis.

This is awesome. I have been building WW2 RC planes and my favorite part was taking a brand-new shiny kit and weathering it up. Especially carrier-based Hellcats that have salt spray all over the front of the wings. Weathering WW2 planes helped me transfer into scale-building RC crawlers/scalers. It's relaxing putting in the work on RC cars since I know I'm not going to crash it from 100ft high at 90 mph into the ground.

Great job on the weathering Matt! The rusting/weathering was awesome, but the windshield wiper technique was a whoa idea as it really looked liked a vehicle in the elements...Element lol. This is the same body as the original blue version, but with body cuts around the fender and rear bumper lips. It also has the rock sliders from the red flatbed version. The original blue version looked more scale with 1.55 wheels, but yet you really made this version very unique. As far as capability, Element is legit with Team Associated DNA...no joke legit. There’s a sticker that looks just like a wooden metal railed bed that would look good in there I have it in a Crawler I have with a shallow bed. It comes in a sheet you just cut to fit. There’s a lot of new releases right now & I have a Sendero HD & custom Ecto & the new SE. They should’ve put the new transmission in it like the SE & although you can do it yourself they should’ve had it in already but it’s hard to complain for 389$ or whatever it is. I like the body that’s what draws me. But my plans where to get the new Redcat till now maybe. Both are not in stock so maybe I’ll decide by which one becomes available first.
Cool but wiper shld have gone further over on driver side but I love that 💡 thanks
Awesome possum
Matt, maybe a channel setting on your side. I can't set notifications to all, it reverts to none notifications.
Have you ever tried cinnamon to make the heavy rust look? I would brush on paint or clearcoat and while it was still wet I sprinkle cinnamon on it. When I really want it chunky I spray clearcoat over the cinnamon which darkens it and then springle more cinnamon around edges to give it real looking depth

One blue fender or something. On another note, when you were masking the windshield, I thought you would put the super fine scratches in the section of glass that the wipers wear on over the years. However, that light coat of "wiped away" dust does look really real. Nice work.

So just so I’m understanding correctly you paint only the outside of the body and do your first outside layer in the “rust colour” you want to reveal and then paint over top with your base colour you want?

No, to achieve this technique, you paint the inside of the body in your rust colors, and paint the outside in your desired exterior color. Then sand away the exterior color to reveal the rust.
