I’ve tried brazing but I suck at it. I’m not giving up on it because I love the feeling of taking materials and making something cool and/or useful out of them. I’ve done it on my Chevy Apache project truck quite a bit and I want to bring it to 10th scale for myself as well. I have access to a welder to make all of the stuff I want to, but it’s a half hour away and I’d rather be in my shop where I’m most comfortable and can learn at my own pace. This video will definitely help me make some cool stuff for my rigs, so thanks a ton!
Always been something I fancied tackling..... now I may just have to. Excellent advice, I love your approach to everything Rc.
Awesome video I've watched a few braising videos but after this one I think I might try it. You showed me everything that I need from a beginners perspective to go and start right away with minimal investment.
You got it pretty much in a nut shell. I was a pro brazer in a ship yard for years and you covered the basics
Very much enjoyed the video on how to braze for RC crawlers. That is something I haven't tried yet and would like to give a go. Thanks!

... Just addicted to your Videos today, Matt!! I've seen this one a few times before, but I always go back to it. When I've got a proper Work Area again, I'm definitely trying this! For years as a Mechanic, I've Brazed on a much larger scale (real Car Exhaust and such). I've never tried it in small scale, but it looks doable. Thanks for inspiring!!! 😉 Carmine ✈🚂🚙
That’s cool.i haven’t brazed in years.i did it before I could weld.im going to try it on my next project.also you can get line benders that are like pliers.you can get a tighter bend.
I need to get into brazing again. I did plenty of it in metal shop class 20+yrs ago. Great video as always!! 🏁💯
I use a micro torch. It's great for getting the heat into tight places and keeping it away from places you don't want it. Also a chainsaw sharpening stone for use in a dremel is great for shaping the ends of the tubes for a no gap fit. In the end your joints will be stronger and look better than ones with large gaps filled in with silver solder which itself is expensive especially when you have to use twice as much to fill gaps in your joints.
Thank you for uploading this I always wanted to know how to braze and now I will definitely give it a try
In the scale world brazing can look more scale and clean over welding. I’ve been welding all of my metal creations but I’d love to try brazing. Thanks for a great video!
That was a very informative video. Great tips on Brazing. Your design and fabrication presentation was on point. I enjoyed it.
Really enjoyed this video 🤘 it's crazy how one video can change your day and get you going in another direction 👍
Thank you for all the info I will be giving it a try here soon. Keep up the amazing work.
Thank you for sharing I've been looking into brazing for some time.
6:25 that plastic to the right bubbling man...lol
I'm not going to do this, but I'm watching because I love your videos 👍
This is a real art form! Good work
Thank you, much appreciated! I need to make a specialized bumper for my scx24. This video helped me say YES, I can do that!

Really nice cage, thanks for the how to,I'll have to give it a try.
I've been wanting to build a custom cage for my newest build, and was about to look it up, and this was in my recommendation list, thanks Matt, candy wait for the next live stream takeover next week
Nice video Matt! I do have all that that you did show plus I have the Little Smiths torch. I love it! Nice flame size and percise brazing. It pretty much on heats up at the spot your trying to braze.
Awesome video! Thanks for the tips. Your one of my favorite subscriptions!
Good stuff! I started brazing today, found a dusty old set up that was used by former shop personnel a few years back. (Oxy Acetalin) super lucky and stoked to get to learn with this legit set up. I successfully brazed up some .250 stainless rod and made an effective and decent looking bash bar for the scx10.2. Learned a lot from your video, really appreciate it! You have a good personality for YouTubing holy cow! Awesome, hopefully we get to meet at an upcoming industry event this year!

“...that’s you” Pup: “what kind of sorcery is this... I’m out”. I’d say your cage came out pretty sweet. I was thinking of recreating the Smittybuilt double tube roll bar, bumpers and sliders I had on my ‘Yota out of plastic but this has changed my mind. Time to get the torch out, now where the heck did I put that scrap tubing...
Matt - thanks for posting this! I’m gonna try my hand at cage work on my next build, a SCX10 II for Axialfest! Cheers Doc
Nice video Matt I am definitely going to give brazing a go.
Fantastic video, I'll be attempting to do full body roll cage for my XJ. Stay safe, and keep your stick on the ice!
I like to see more of these build videos.
Thanks for sharing your experience with brazing. I think it would be a very valuable skill to have for repairing or modifying your RC.

"Be careful!" Where's the fun in that? Shirley, I jest! Good video. I've been wanting to learn to braze.
Great video man! 👍👍👍 I been thinking about trying brazing to make my own bumpers and cages! Great info thanks so much for sharing! ✌️😊
I loved the demonstration of were the torch head gets attatched ' tap tap tap' lol love this guy
Awesome video, thanks for sharing your expertise! Stay safe...
Very nice job!
Thanks for the tips, I have a bunch of bumpers and sliders needed.

I would so do this to an on road car chassis for the scale look. I’ve seen people use styrene but I think this might be even better and more accurate
Might have to give it a try
Looking good. Thanks for the info.
look pretty easy, but the fact so so so much effort to get this skill, thanks for sharing great brazing skill
good video. pretty good basic brazing info. brazing rods from home depot or lowes or whatever will be cheaper than that silver solder yer using. I use a ts8000 torch but the flame is a little big, it works fine for small stuff you just gotta be a little more careful. for more precise heat placement a jewelers torch works best. I actually like the way a brass brazed joint looks on steel. it's a nice contrast, and, when you get to where you can run that solder in smooth it makes a very eye pleasing joint. tig welding these little projects is where it's at methinks. a lot more expensive to get set up, but, super precise heat and bond. the truck is lookin great. I enjoyed this video very much have a badass day 🤘🏻
Wow!, awesome video mate cheers....
Definitely going to buy those tabs. Would help a lot
Really nice Cage, In ypu are right doesn't need much more
I'd love to try brazing, it's looking great. I already had a soldering torch, solder and copper brake pipe, so I made do with that, as I'm still quite new to rc

OMG Matt!!! You made my week!!! 😁😁😁 I've already got everything you mentioned except the Mapp Gas and Nozzle, Solder and Flux and a Bench Vise! Oh, and Brake Line. NONE of which sounds prohibitively expensive!! 😁😎 (I apologize up front. This will be LONG! There are things I feel like I need to say to you) 😃 Also as a Retired Auto Mechanic, and Custom Engine Builder, I've got OCD level pipe (Fuel and Brake Line) bending and trimming skills and am a pretty decent Welder.... 😉 I've seen other how to Tiny Truck Welding Videos, and was disheartened by the COST of the equipment to get the results they were getting. 😞 Could you please provide me with links or at least part descriptions for the MAPP apparatus, Silver Solder and Flux you use?? 😁 I've wanted to do custom Cage Work since I discovered the Tiny Truck end of the RC Hobby - from YOU, Chris @ GCM and Aaron at RCSparks in 2014!! 😎👍👍🇨🇦 That's true. I was disgusted with how RC Vehicles I kept seeing looked like Moon Buggies with tires sticking out of the Fenders by what looks like 5 SCALE FEET!!! 😖😞😡 I was doing a search for Model Railroading Videos, and "accidentally" stumbled upon your, Aaron's, Chris's and later, Josh's Channels. You helped me discover after a 9 year hiatus from the Hobby, that SCALE Modeling, my passion, had a big place in the RC Hobby!!! I thank you Sir, sincerely. 😉😎👍👍 Again I'm TERRIBLY sorry that in 2015, when we lost EVERYTHING, that in desperation, I reached out to the RC Community to try to get help rebuilding my collection and to start my new found Love, Scale Trucking!! I'm not a beggar, and contrary to popular belief, NOT a Scammer. Still don't remember who started that. I'm pretty sure that your Friend Richard, will never talk to me again... I've made quite a few enemies in my improper means of trying to get help. THANK YOU Matt, if you got to the end of this book!! 😉 PLEASE Stay SAFE! 😷 Carmine ✈🚂🚙

Sweet thanks for the inline video:)
Great video, thanks for the awesome video. Totally SCALLER AF BRAH!
wow I had no idea it was this simple to get going. I know it will take time but after practice I am sure I can do it. O man have to get a cage going.
To this day, i use brazing for filling in rivet holes in jon boat projects! it's great.
The dog was great, so understanding, almost looked like saying:"no way that's me, you for real?! Need to look closer, stay here"
Dude! That short bed cage looks badass! I took the truck bed off my Element Knightrunner to do a similar and simple cage like yours. Sometimes less is better lookin!
Yeah this really is a tricky process. Say what you like. lol Practice is a must. I have been working in a machine shop for over 25 years. This is a process I still struggle with. LMAO .. Great work bud and thanks for the walk through
Brazing is awesome... I am doing may first steps with this... But I have made a new Stinger for a Chinese bumper, and so it looks way different an unique... There are a few videos of my red jeep on my very little channel.. So stay well an safe...
Wow, your puppy looks EXACTLY like our last labradoodle...even down to the little bit of brown on the face! Awesome video :)
This type of project needs a lot of practice and knowing the basics of welding.
Good explanation - so i understand :D
To figure out what your bends need to be use plumbing solder it has a large diameter & it bends easily & you can reuse it over & over for long tubes the shorter pieces not so much. This is especially helpful for interior cages. If you want to do a complete mockup you can use C A (super glue) to glue it together to see if you like it or not. I have a small oxygen propane torch I bought @ Lowes & I used the Lincoln Electric brazing rods. I am going to try the borax & brass wire technique like someone else mentioned in the comments next.
I got a scx10 ii cherokee on order, i was thinking of doing the same thing on front bumper. Use my Tig welder and weld a hoop bumper. You could probably solder this all together too. With .040 Tig rod at 5 amps should work. I probably wont need filler, can just melt metal together. 👍 on video. Great ideas
"Super molten hot metal"😂 Great video, thanks!👍🏻
great video, thanks for the info. it was fun watching that plastic body post melt with that close up too. a chainsaw file is the same diameter as brake line so it's perfect for coping the joints tightly. i like ice cream.
Been wanting to try brazing for awhile. May get some tubing n give it a try. Also wanna try styrene as well
You made me want to go pick up some brake line. Torch and map gas

Nice, just found you! Yes, full size tube chassis race cars were brazed back in the day, itself an extension of soldering.......BTW, it’s ALWAYS Science......with artisanship thrown in. I use a jeweler’s torch which is just a finer tip for more concentrated heat control, but normal “box store” torch can get the job done too. Sub’d 😎
Great job thanks for the tips

just dove into brazing and built 2 cages, was really fun. Hardest part for me is keeping the pieces in place and designing the part. I designed it adobe illustrator and printed out all the pieces and used that as a template. helped a little bit. anyhow. Fun to make stuff. Have you ever brazed steel rod not tube?
Cool intro- as always!

Brazing is a good start into metal working as it does have a lower start up cost. Plus it builds off of soldering wires as a skill set. Since I own a MIG I tend to use it for my metal working.
It's amazing.!!!!
Thanks for the video Matt. I haven't tried brazing yet, but I want to. Might eyes kept getting bigger as I watched the plastic start to melt. I'm guessing better to braze off of the truck. LOL.
Just at the right time! Thank you for this video! Just last night I tried to build a little interior roll cage with brass tube and silver solder - and overall it actually turned out decent. However, I struggled the most with the correct measurements. I have the same tube bender like you showed in the video and just don't understand, how to align it right ... do you mark the rods in the middle of the bend or where the furthest point is going to be? Btw: dog people are the best!

I tend to mark at the end of the curve so I know where to start it when I need to replicate a piece.
This is always fun. Though I need a better work shop for that.... Our dinning room doubles as my studio haha. The small time game. But. All in time. 👍👍😁
