    Thank you for the awesome video. I'm trying to catch up on the last couple videos. This is a great video series. Your style is different from all the synth channels. It's very informative and hands on. It just clicks with my mind when you explain things. Now the question is, continue saving for rytm and a4 or grab the ST first. Decisions decisions...

    @@SURCOlive I'll be using the gear for sound design focused music creation. Analogue and digital. I'm a hobbiest synthesist and still relatively new. I'm slowly expanding my studio set up, but being careful to pick the sounds sources I really like with the workflow that I understand. So far elektron is really jiving with how I think. The appeal of the ST is really alot of what you described today. The flexibility especially with midi and external synths is where I what to go. Even two ST for midi control with the E sequencer would be pretty cool. The goal eventually would be live performance in a similar fashion that you do. Each show with a unique set using only the gear I have to perform using just improvisation. So either the A4 + RT or the ST in any order, I guess. I like how your E gear cascades the signal path through each other. It's really innovative and efficient.

    Glad you liked it! I route the Swarm and 1010 Blackbox into the Syntakt (were into the Digitone before). Syntakt in to the C and D inputs of the Octatrack. Digitakt output into the A and B inputs of the Octatrack. Then the Main out of the Octatrack goes into the Analog Heat before going to the House System (or recorder, etc). When doing Sound Lock is there a way to preview the new sound before confirming the change? And can you control note length onboard for the synth sounds?

  • @SURCOlive

    @SURCOlive

    2 жыл бұрын

    yes you can preview by pressing ‘yes’. also, there are multiple ways to control not length since they are synths and not samples. there is a ‘length’ function, plus you have the Amp envelope, plus there are separate decays for each sound (one for each oscillator on the dual vco and the fm synths). thanks for watching.

    Nice talk. I wouldn't call Bo "in depth". You just did 50 minutes that's arguably the best of the bunch.. I've got a Rytm and Model Cycles and seriously considering paring down to just the Syntakt. That form factor is tough to beat.

    is it possible to have tracks 1 to 8 just be drums and 9 to 12 synths for bass(9), synth(10), lead(11) and another rhythmic percussion (12)??

  • @SURCOlive

    @SURCOlive

    4 ай бұрын

    It is possible. The only limitation is the analog drum synth engine on track 12 is a dedicated ‘cymbal’ engine. It works for percussion but is not as versatile as the others.

    @@SURCOlive Nice, saw what you did there. Not sure these latter day Elektrons are hitting the spot for me. Old school MachineDrum user and frustrated Octatrak Mk1 owner here. So the "pre-wrapped pre-cooked" synth sounds make me think of a convenience box, but heh if it gets people on board, at least it doesn't say Roland on the box.

  • @jmfhsmith4923
    @jmfhsmith49232 жыл бұрын

    What sucks is hearing that button click all the time while trying to make sounds. How hard is it to make soft spongy pads like Roland used to do on their drum machines? And it would be simpler to switch patterns using a knob. You can only make beats so creative without pads and a simple interface. I like the audio input thing though. No individual outs means no way to thicken up individual sound inside mixer channels or a modular. By itself, the sound seems kinda stale and bland to me. Thin and tough, not like a Vermona synth. Rather than buying cheep sounding analog box, check the Gotharman's LD3. You can have 4 audio inputs to analog filters with quality digital effects. You get 16 parts with up to 4 outputs. The AD converters are everything you could hope for.

    Pattern switching is much more visually intuitive using buttons. The buttons area really clunky but I like that, very robust positive feel to them. Separate outs would be very useful, even if it was just a few aux outs, say 4, which you could sent out to separate effects or mixer channels. Comparing it to a Vermona synth is a bit odd, the A4 being fully analog would be a better comparison. Saying that I’ve got an A4 and would still love a Perfourmer as they sound amazing.

  • @jmfhsmith4923

    @jmfhsmith4923

    You could select ANY pattern to play next with one knob during Song Mode. That is way simpler than holding 1 button and then pressing some other button, especially since you sometimes need way more patterns in a track than that method would give you. It's a quick and simple way to micromanage your song in many smaller sections. My old Boss machines have way more patterns than Electron gear and I often use every pattern in one song. I like complexity over cheesy 4 on the floor patterns. Want to make real songs rather than sample tracks. I'm only comparing (quality of sound) to the Vermona's. The DRM-1 has a thick, heavy snare drum you can't get with cheap analog or samplers with thin converters. Get a Gotharman, get a SP1200 remake. If you really like the Electron, use it for a few light backing tracks. Runn it through something nicer to spice it up. But only if you can't get that sound some other way.

  • @leftmono1016

    @@jmfhsmith4923 - you appear to have a very special use case if you need so many patterns for one track. The Elektron way suits most people. Don’t forget that any genre can be made to sound cheesey, or boring, or just plain shit. Crap sounding music isn’t genre specific unless you’re close minded enough to believe that we all like the same thing. You mention the quality of converters, if you perform live I’d strongly suggest projecting the technical specs of your superior converters as no one will have a clue otherwise. Personally I really like Elektron gear, having bought and sold synths/gear for over 30 years the Digitakt was a real eye opener for me. Sound locks, parameter locks etc - stuff that you can do on other gear but takes seconds on an Elektron sequencer. The DT lead to an OT, DN and A4 so I don’t really need the Syntakt - but I checked out Surco’s video just to see what it can do. I don’t particularly like using MPCs and the Deluge is not for me. As such I don’t go on associated comments sections saying how other gear is better. 1. I understand that everyone’s likes/needs/dislikes are different and 2. I don’t want to sound arrogant when it’s impossible for me to prove myself otherwise.

  • @jmfhsmith4923

    @jmfhsmith4923

    I'm sure the masses agree with you. I don't like most music anyway. I find it thin and shallow. I don't care who I sound arrogant to and don't care to please or fit in. I don't need go with the waves to make money. I don't even like the MPC workflow. There is no one genius enough to make the kind of sequencer I would love. It would have a lot of pads 2 pads for each note. One pad would trigger note on and the other would trigger note of. Both real-time quantized. Each track would have it's own independent sequencer, patterns and song chain. I want roll, flam, erase and note shift buttons. I don't want to have to go into step sequence to delete notes. P-Locks are fine but don't replace a more inspiring work flow. I don't think the same as the masses so I am not satisfied with wimpy sounding gear all you can do with is make some minimal grove everyone will feel comfortable with around and respect. Time for something truly new and better, don't you think? Quality sound you can feel in your bones!
