    It’s common. A hot call comes out and you’re moving fast. It becomes all gas, no breaks, and the utmost precision when steering. You drive these vehicles so long (my crown Victoria) that you feel when it begins to break traction, so instead of breaking, you can ease up on the gas instead.

    My mom was a CHP Dispatcher/Matron (uniformed) from 1970 into the 1980's. I graduated High School in '75 so my whole adolescence was spent around CHP officers. After graduating College in '79 I went to the Police Academy and have been in various Law Enforcement jobs ever since. Riding in those late 1960, early '70 CHP cars was exciting. They were all Big Block 440 Magnum, Coronets and Polaras at the time. My first Patrol Car and training was in a '73 Plymouth Satellite w/318 "police package" with oversized radiator, drive train, brakes and 12 Bolt Dana rear end. Learning to "throw" the vehicle into a spin and then regain control was a thrill. Now, with ESC you don't know how much of the Driving is skill or technology. I just know that throwing a 4,200 pound Plymouth sideways and trying to regain control teaches you real quick what to do and especially what NOT to do. My current Patrol Vehicle is a Ford Explorer, but it's about 7 years old and doesn't have any ESC. Our Highway Patrol has retired most of their MOPARs and Fords to use the Explorer. I still worry about "rollover" in the top heavy Explorer compared to the wide bodied Crown Vic's and Chargers (and of course my "old Satellite!). I'd love to see ESC in all passenger cars before my 5 grandchildren begin driving...

    Personally, I mostly agree... But I want my children/grandchildren to learn to drive on a non-ABS, non-traction controlled, standard trans, basic, basic, basic car. That way, like you mentioned, they can learn what to do if in a slide, and what NOT to do to avoid a slide. ( I also live in the cold, snowy interior of Canada, so we have much more of a chance of sliding during the winter months. ) But I would rather some of these other ( often idiot ) drivers to be using said electronic controls when they are on the same roads as my kids/grandkids.

    Everyone always seems to forget about tires. It's like they think as long as there's some rubber wrapped around the rims, it's perfect to go. Getting a good set of tires for your car is the best possible move you can do for the money if you care about your car's overall performance. It's the only true direct part that controls your car's acceleration, braking, and cornering capabilities.

    The explorer is a more modern car and seems to handle better, because of AWD and traction control. BUT it’s still a narrow SUV, and much more top heavy, and easy to flip. The CVPI looks borderline impossible to flip. It’ll just spin out. I’d feel far more comfortable at high speeds in the Vic, although, you could argue at 60mph and under and in rain/ice, the Explorer is safer.

  • @jordanbell4420
    @jordanbell44205 жыл бұрын

    This is clearly aimed at beginners. Its says: Don't modulate the brake pedal, keep ABS activated. This is good advice for a beginner, but a good driver can threshold brake- that is, keep the brake pedal at the point right before ABS activation, because ABS only acts when it detects some minor lock-up. So while ABS significantly reduces lock up, threshold braking completely eliminates it. Also, it says to keep your hands at 10&2, 9&3, or 8&4. You should only hold the wheel at 9&3. Having your hands at 9&3 gives you better control of the steering, as you can keep your hands on the wheel for longer before having to go hand-over-hand in tight corners, gives the driver a better feel of the car, and allow the driver to straighten the wheel up faster, which can be helpful if you're sliding. Also, if you crash, its safer to have your hands at 9&3. If they're at 10&2, the airbag may force your arms into your face.

    BecauseICanTBH Yeah, I've done that and the light turns on saying they're off. Punch the gas and it still cuts power midway through a drift in the snow. The worst part is getting stuck and not being able to power your way out. It's a 2012 GMC, wish I would've gotten a Dodge.

    In my 2007 Pontiac G5, clicking the handbrake up one tick would do it. In my 2009 Pontiac G8 and 2015 Fiat 500 it has a button next to the shifter. But if yours doesn't do any of that, you could try pulling the fuse

    StalePhish I've tried all of that. I even pulled all the ABS fuses like some forums recommended. An HP Tune was done too. I'd guess that the torque management system is still fully engaged.. That's the only thing left that I can think of.

The crown vic has a body on frame..there is a real frame under that car.. the crown vic has the 4.6 modular one of the best engines ever made.. the ESC crap is nonsense why would i want my car to hit the breaks for me in a low traction situation? what if i need power to make a hill but he ESC keep applying breaks and cutting engine power? i have personally seen this happen...these systems were made to combat incompetent drivers.. all they do is hinder those with actual driving skills... just like gun laws, they only hurt the good people..

    The average person can't defy the laws of physics in a vehicle. Though more vehicles have all of these than not, I will tell you first hand that an 09 Ford Focus did not have any of these. Not even ABS but it was quite easy to handle. Heavier vehicles though are harder to control. Most people don't even know how to drive anyway, let alone, handle a 3K pound piece of metal travelling at 70mph.

    It is widely assumed that more accidents happen in recent times due to the drivers feeling (close to) invincible with all the technology on board. That's why there are some groups demanding that, for example, driving school is taken at least partly in old cars which do not have (much) assisting technology.

    Forget? Lol they were never able to drive in the first place! Most people I've talked to think that an all wheel drive vehicle will help you STOP better when the roads slick! They don't know anything about weight transfer, or emergency maneuvers, or even basic physics. The worst part is most people don't even want or care to learn! People simply don't care if they know how to handle a multi thousand pound death machine! So while I hate having cars that make it impossible to disable the electronic aids, if it keeps idiots who think they are entitled to being able to drive just because they have a license from literally killing other people with their self inflicted ignorance using their oversized SUVs and unnecessarily large trucks, then I guess I'll just have to live with it. Knowing the drivers I've seen though, they're going to find a way to kill me anyway, no matter how much hand holding their vehicle does. Sorry I've ranted, my bad :P
