Sodium sulfate is an ionic compound. When it dissolves in water, 4 ions form which are Na+, SO42-, OH- & H+. The sodium sulfate dissociates into its ions and the water ionises to form ions. Hydrogen is less reactive than sodium so forms hydrogen at the cathode. Hydroxide ions discharge more easily than sulfate ions so forms oxygen gas and water at the anode. The hydrogen ions are reduced as they gain electrons. The hydroxide ions are oxidised as they lose electrons.
