Electrified Excellence: Edison Motors x FloDraulic Partnership
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
For four decades, FloDraulic has been a leader in mobile machinery, specializing in integrating internal combustion engines with advanced hydraulic systems. As the world moves towards a zero-carbon footprint, FloDraulic’s expertise in transitioning heavy-duty machines from diesel to electric is more crucial than ever.
In 2021, we launched the Edison Motors Electrified Truck Project, a groundbreaking initiative to develop a hybrid electric logging truck. This truck reflects our core values of repairability, ease of service, and robust power, tailored for the demanding off-highway markets. Unsatisfied with the direction of market electrification, we decided, "Screw it, we can build a better truck ourselves," and FloDraulic was the perfect partner for this venture.
Discover how FloDraulic brings its extensive expertise in hydraulics, electrical design, and vehicle communication networks to help us create a top-tier product. From the inception of Edison Motors, FloDraulic has been instrumental, offering invaluable experience in control systems and system integration.
This video will take you behind the scenes of our collaboration, highlighting how we use key suppliers like DanFoss and their Editron products-designed for high performance in extreme conditions-to achieve our vision. These partnerships have not only led to the creation of a best-in-class hybrid electric truck but have also set the stage for future projects.
At Edison Motors, we’re not just building trucks; we’re shaping the future of the electrification industry. With FloDraulic’s support, we’ve turned a simple idea into a reality, marking a significant milestone in our journey towards a greener planet.
Subscribe to our channel to follow our progress and explore how Edison Motors, with FloDraulic’s partnership, is driving innovation and sustainability in the heavy machinery sector.

Regardless of how Edison does, FloDraulic will prosper from this venture. Just from the experience and learnings applying electrification to the vocational truck market. Not that I doubt Edison, but they are taking a challenging path. And nailing it, so far! Edison will not be a competitor in the long-haul OTR space (Chace has noted that the fuel savings are not there at highway speeds, whereas with a Tesla Semi they truly are as Pepsi has proven). But a hybrid gets exceptional economy in a start-stop, low speed environment. Garbage trucks. Logging because of the specifics of that industry. Service vehicles that don't need to run on the highway. It's still a big market. Similarly with a hybrid pickup kit, that 10% or so fuel savings on the highway is nothing to write home about - but the 50% in the city is a game-changer. (Although Ford and GM would love that 10% highway savings).

At the very beginning, why does the Flodraulics person think we need to eliminate ckrbon dioxide emissions? If we (could - fortunately we can't) eliminate CO² all vegetatiin would die (photosynthesis requires CO²). I am far more concerned about the chemicals being introduced into our atmosphere at high elevations (allegedly to control weather & reduce global warming).

@@samjubilee6593Top edit: The problem is fossil carbon with a 300 year atmospheric lifetime. The 2 year carbon cycle from plants and animals is noise on top of the overall trend. The more we delay action on climate change: the more urgent action becomes. The reason is that our "carbon budget" (to hold the line a 1.5C or 1/3 of an XKCD ice age unit) remains fixed. When the Kyoto protocol was signed in 1997: we had about 50 years to phase out fossil fuels (2050 deadline). After 25 years of inaction: we have about 6 years to phase out fossil fuels (2030 deadline) If Conservatives get elected: we will have 4 more years of inaction, and negative 3 years to phase out fossil fuels (2026 deadline, plus minus a few years).

@@EdisonMotors Capitalist greed global corruption destroys innovation. I watched the government funding video you provided on your KZread channel
This is what needs to be used more extensively than it is currently, These people know the backbone of Edison Motors and are a perfect support company to extend the range, not just of current vehicles fuel wise but types of vehicle to be built. This impressed me, not just as a "click bait" video but as a genuine explanation of who Flodraulic are and what they can do for companies. I'm in UK and have/had no idea about this company until I saw they were doing this partnership with Edison Motors. I didn't realise they were working with some of the most important and specialised companies. This is so good for EM. I'm even more supportive of this venture with people like this alongside them.
In a short 44 years Flodraulic has become THE household name worldwide. This is exciting to see
This video is great. It explains why your partnership with FloDraulic really matters, and how this new tech is being used. But you've gotta get some better B roll of Topsy. Drive her through some mud, up a steep slope, and pull something heavy. She looks like a street queen compared to the other machines FloDraulic has worked on, pushing dirt and lifting logs.

This will be a solid partnership fellas Vocational rigs will be a solid solution for proof the ideology you two spawned is going to work. Full speed ahead lads!!!
This will be a great partnership. I can't wait to see you guys thrive together in the future!
Very impressive to have come this far and now got the vehicle certified. Kind of a proud moment, even as an observer. Go BC. Canada.
Good teamwork with strong partner is key. There is a lot of under the hood work that people don't always see and working with Flodraulic will definitely help get this project on the road.
I'm a mechanic and just rebuilt a small electric motor, took about an hour, Cost less than $50 in parts, and there was virtually no waste. This was a smaller unit but a similar sized small gasoline engine would have taken 4x as long and cost 4x the amount. The serviceability of this truck looks amazing. Id imagine if a shop had a rebuilt motor on that they could probably swap it while the driver waits in the cab
That truck is a beast!!!!! And a work of art in my opinion!!!! ….. I think hybrid / engine design is a great way to go !!!! …..hope this succeeds because if you can live your dream and help the planet 🌎 at the same time it’s a massive achievement all the way!!!!!
The direction is really good, and having good partners makes it possible to get towards the target. So happy that more people believe in this technology and work on making it available for end users globally!
Looking more and more polished by the day!
Fantastic! Now take topsy to the fully loaded semi truck drag races!!
Looks like a great match up, of multiple companies with a passion to create better products, for a realistic cleaner and greener future.
Nailed the press junket vid. I work in... an adjacent industry; I love what y'all are doing, mechanically and ethically. (But if I hear "electrification" one more bloody time...)
While I don't believe in true zero emissions, But I do believe in severely reducing the emissions that we do have! And these companies are prime examples of what we need to get it done!
Love the production value of this video, it really shows
Great work guys!!! Keep on doing what you're doing!! 🙌🙌
The best part is having a super-intelligent driver involved. His knowledge is priceless; I can tell you firsthand that few end users are involved with the finished truck at the major suppliers. So many designs are like, really, who designed this?

I know this isn’t really a substantial issue, but I think it is worth pointing out so that you don’t irritate potential customers who care about such things.
Good nice thing
Please let Linus do a video at your HQ, it'll be amazing!
Diesel-electric makes so much sense! It's a technology with over 100 years of development and refinement. Also, hybrids don't require the electric power infrastructure to be upgraded as is the case with full electrics.
Has anyone expressed using this for moving those extra large loads where you see them using 5 or 6 tracktors?
0:12 A Grater, what are we grating cheese? :P
You should take a look at JCB’s new hydrogen burning engine/generator as a possible alternative to the diesel generator? I wish someone could come up with a small onboard hydrogen electrolyzer where you could plug your truck into cheap electric and automatically fill up your tanks with hydrogen and top off your batteries, job done a totally 100% clean vehicle?
@samjubilee6593
Ай бұрын
Check out (allegedly) Toyota's engine that runs on water (convert water to HH+O "on the fly"). If reports are true, no need for bottled hydrogen as fuel - simply fill up with water. Stan Meyers was using water as fuel by the late '80s/early '90s. He came up with a way to split water that requires much less energy than does traditional electrolysis. He also came up with electrical technology to keep fresh water from freezing in cold weather. Also of note are Rudy & Peter Gunnerman, who developed engine tech using cheaper fuels (incuding a mix 25% gasoline, with the remainder water with a small amount of surfactant).
Wow
Hey Edison, wondering if you have any average energy economy values for Topsy (km/kWh, or kWh/100km, etc.). I'm an Electrical Engineer and wanted to run a little comparison study against diesel, 100% electric, and hybrid.
Excellent truck design, but we don't need zero carbon.

Not to mention Topsy has already pulled a load. (while not long distance they did move 100k+ lbs on video). Still under testing, they did pull a fully loaded trailer, if I remember around 100,000 lbs, around a yard with no issues, video is in the list. They just got a vin and license on it. As per zero carbon, the world needs carbon dioxide, plants need it to survive.
“Zero carbon society” 🤦♂️
Electric trucks will come on sooner or later, just because of raw energy efficiency and lower maintenance cost. Torque load factors are going to be issues to start with, which is why trains are diesel electric... no mechanical clutch could stand up to the launch torque load like an electric motor. Hybrids will be the start, but I expect, at least with highway trucks, it will be a saddle pack batteries that can be changed like the battery on you electric shop tool. A robotic drive thru... two changed out... all robotic and digital metering and billing without even getting out of the truck. Five minutes max, every 100/150 miles, time for a coffee and piss.

I support the advancement of technologies and efficiencies - BUT - "Zero Carbon" goals in the home of "carbon based life" seems like a counterproductive idea. Sure, reduce pollution but CO2 in NOT "pollution"! It's vital for life.
Unless nuclear power is widespread it's a scam
Dont let your national pride get in the way of business Chase. If you want to be a logger, go to the woods.
Greed It’s like someone has reversed engineered a movie script and actually put it into practice. This is scary as hell. Can you imagine the impact this would have on the country if this sort of scandal were to be perpetrated on a larger scale. So far you are only talking million’s. Probably a drop in the bucket to some politicians. Could this be happening, or have happened on a larger scale? Say BILLIONS of dollars. Nah, the people’s watch dogs (journalists) would have reported on anything at that level. Unless the watchdogs have been re-trained to become lapdogs. Nah, that’s impossible. We are after all CANADIAN eh.
I heartily would like you to quit talking about a zero carbon future. (It is annoying to have to listen to a "climate change" narrative.)
Amazing, I have watched several of your videos and listenedd to all your claims but not yet seen even a single picture of a drive axle device of any sort. See if you were here in the states you would be assumed to be a Trump.

A greener and cleaner future is an admirable goal. What Edison has shown is that this goal is only attainable with pragmatic improvements that still improve the economy and allow for job development. Hopefully, the market will prove this is a success
