Electrified Excellence: Edison Motors x FloDraulic Partnership

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

For four decades, FloDraulic has been a leader in mobile machinery, specializing in integrating internal combustion engines with advanced hydraulic systems. As the world moves towards a zero-carbon footprint, FloDraulic’s expertise in transitioning heavy-duty machines from diesel to electric is more crucial than ever.
In 2021, we launched the Edison Motors Electrified Truck Project, a groundbreaking initiative to develop a hybrid electric logging truck. This truck reflects our core values of repairability, ease of service, and robust power, tailored for the demanding off-highway markets. Unsatisfied with the direction of market electrification, we decided, "Screw it, we can build a better truck ourselves," and FloDraulic was the perfect partner for this venture.
Discover how FloDraulic brings its extensive expertise in hydraulics, electrical design, and vehicle communication networks to help us create a top-tier product. From the inception of Edison Motors, FloDraulic has been instrumental, offering invaluable experience in control systems and system integration.
This video will take you behind the scenes of our collaboration, highlighting how we use key suppliers like DanFoss and their Editron products-designed for high performance in extreme conditions-to achieve our vision. These partnerships have not only led to the creation of a best-in-class hybrid electric truck but have also set the stage for future projects.
At Edison Motors, we’re not just building trucks; we’re shaping the future of the electrification industry. With FloDraulic’s support, we’ve turned a simple idea into a reality, marking a significant milestone in our journey towards a greener planet.
Subscribe to our channel to follow our progress and explore how Edison Motors, with FloDraulic’s partnership, is driving innovation and sustainability in the heavy machinery sector.

Regardless of how Edison does, FloDraulic will prosper from this venture. Just from the experience and learnings applying electrification to the vocational truck market. Not that I doubt Edison, but they are taking a challenging path. And nailing it, so far! Edison will not be a competitor in the long-haul OTR space (Chace has noted that the fuel savings are not there at highway speeds, whereas with a Tesla Semi they truly are as Pepsi has proven). But a hybrid gets exceptional economy in a start-stop, low speed environment. Garbage trucks. Logging because of the specifics of that industry. Service vehicles that don't need to run on the highway. It's still a big market. Similarly with a hybrid pickup kit, that 10% or so fuel savings on the highway is nothing to write home about - but the 50% in the city is a game-changer. (Although Ford and GM would love that 10% highway savings).

At the very beginning, why does the Flodraulics person think we need to eliminate ckrbon dioxide emissions? If we (could - fortunately we can't) eliminate CO² all vegetatiin would die (photosynthesis requires CO²). I am far more concerned about the chemicals being introduced into our atmosphere at high elevations (allegedly to control weather & reduce global warming).

This is what needs to be used more extensively than it is currently, These people know the backbone of Edison Motors and are a perfect support company to extend the range, not just of current vehicles fuel wise but types of vehicle to be built. This impressed me, not just as a "click bait" video but as a genuine explanation of who Flodraulic are and what they can do for companies. I'm in UK and have/had no idea about this company until I saw they were doing this partnership with Edison Motors. I didn't realise they were working with some of the most important and specialised companies. This is so good for EM. I'm even more supportive of this venture with people like this alongside them.

I'm a mechanic and just rebuilt a small electric motor, took about an hour, Cost less than $50 in parts, and there was virtually no waste. This was a smaller unit but a similar sized small gasoline engine would have taken 4x as long and cost 4x the amount. The serviceability of this truck looks amazing. Id imagine if a shop had a rebuilt motor on that they could probably swap it while the driver waits in the cab

I wish someone could come up with a small onboard hydrogen electrolyzer where you could plug your truck into cheap electric and automatically fill up your tanks with hydrogen and top off your batteries, job done a totally 100% clean vehicle?

Check out (allegedly) Toyota's engine that runs on water (convert water to HH+O "on the fly"). If reports are true, no need for bottled hydrogen as fuel - simply fill up with water. Stan Meyers was using water as fuel by the late '80s/early '90s. He came up with a way to split water that requires much less energy than does traditional electrolysis. He also came up with electrical technology to keep fresh water from freezing in cold weather. Also of note are Rudy & Peter Gunnerman, who developed engine tech using cheaper fuels (incuding a mix 25% gasoline, with the remainder water with a small amount of surfactant).

Electric trucks will come on sooner or later, just because of raw energy efficiency and lower maintenance cost. Torque load factors are going to be issues to start with, which is why trains are diesel electric... no mechanical clutch could stand up to the launch torque load like an electric motor. Hybrids will be the start, but I expect, at least with highway trucks, it will be a saddle pack batteries that can be changed like the battery on you electric shop tool. A robotic drive thru... two changed out... all robotic and digital metering and billing without even getting out of the truck. Five minutes max, every 100/150 miles, time for a coffee and piss.

A greener and cleaner future is an admirable goal. What Edison has shown is that this goal is only attainable with pragmatic improvements that still improve the economy and allow for job development. Hopefully, the market will prove this is a success

It’s good to see companies working together to make things that last longer and the owners can actually own and maintain.
