You never use more than 80% continuous load on a circuit, 15amp circuit, use no more than 12amps. 20amp circuits are not common, but you would max out at 16amps. And remember ppl typically have no idea where those convenience outlets are located. Breaker #1 could have outlets in garage, kitchen, bathroom & bedroom. There is a reason for this. It's to balance the load. Easiest example, kitchen-1 outlet, 2 plugs. They will b on different breakers. Mom has the big stand mixer plugged into 1 spot, and a blender going full force in the other spot. If that outlet was on the same circuit, It would become a fire hazard. It's almost like the NEC & electricians knew how ppl lived & operated😂 And it is true, DO NOT trust breakers to flip. Fuses are MUCH safer-because they were just pop-like a light bulb going out. Breakers on the other hand have a tendency to fail in the on position. Yep, we've all tripped a breaker a time or two from an overload, but it's actually more common for the breaker to fail in the on position. You melt the wiring in the walls. Recently, there was a fire because the wires in the walls had been smoldering for days. And if you use extension cords and whatnot always know what they are what rated for too. Just because it fits doesn't mean it's right!

Thanks so much for the electricity lesson. So many years ago, before KZread and after a horrible marriage and divorce, I became a teacher and had to teach science as one of the subjects that included physics and electricity. I learned a lot, and bought a big broken down HUD house for almost nothing and moved into it and started fixing it up. If you ever saw the movie, The Money Trap, it was something like that. I did a lot myself including changing out all the plugs, switches, and fixtures to more modern types. Pulled up old carpets to find beautiful antique hardwood floors that I polished and refinished. Sold the house and bought another and on and on. Thank goodness for the that Kilted Guy and KZread. It makes things so much easier with your lessons. The world is a better place because you are here. Thanks again. 🎉

Excellent lesson Guy. Great revision from my school days (electronic engineering), like yourself forgot most of it and we don't really use it anymore in my trade (I fell into the IT business from Electrical, should have stuck with electrical oh well...). I'm from the days of B.G (Before Google), when you used multimeters to diagnose circuit faults, especially on photocopier equipment and making cables. Now everything is disposable parts and field replaceable. European Power is rated at 110v (same as North America), in the UK (240v) where I'm from I once blew a power supply by not checking the voltage switch on the controller as they were used in sold in both the UK and Europe - opps! Luckily it was a loud bang and a change of pants, nothing serious thankfully! LED is a boom for home lighting, I think the math was max 100ish LED lights on one circuit, compared to 14 100Watt regular bulbs! Most of the light bulb energy is lost via heat (infrared light) which is why you need to crank up the wattage compared to an LED which negates the infrared loss thus requires less power to run. I was at Atlantic City recently and the casino/resorts are installing wind turbines, LED's and power management systems (auto turn off switches, etc) to offset the power costs. the average casino runs a power bill of $100,000 a month! And you thought your electrical service bills were high?
