Congratulations on a successful build! My grandson and myself are about start an electric to gas conversion. I also was gifted a 48V cart with 8 deader than dead batteries. I had no idea how much batteries had gone up in price! So with that in mind, coupled with wanting mo power, well gas it is! We’ve got frame rust to contend with also. Our cart lived in Bolivar, Texas, at the beach. So rust rust rust! I’ve been pondering whether or not to do a complete axle swap, with an new axle assembly and engine tray mounted to a new swing arm frame or not, but man those $$$ are piling up! I was wondering how you managed the chain tension with your engine/transmission on a rigid frame mount going to a spring mounted axle. Thanks for sharing.

I watched another by Keyfarm who basically says his is about the same. He didn’t have the F-N-R gearbox like yours which is a dealbreaker. Kind of hard to Fred Flintstone a golf cart in reverse. I’m picking up a 4 seater Marathon tomorrow and am disappointed to learn their top speeds are only 13mph hence the video research into your project. Nice work

Eric Styer you can change the gear ratios with the chain drive coming out of the F-N-R box. I just used 10 on the front and 10 on the back which is 1:1. I only guesstimated on the speed. You can change it by altering the sprocket sizes. Good luck!

Awesome build. I want to do that but I don't know what all I need and my axle is different from yours. My electric motor bolts to the rear end like a drive shaft on a truck.

Nick Wren well.... You might have to get creative for sure but, just use your imagination and don’t give up! Good luck.

Chris Jordan got it off eBay $117.87 go cart gear box 10 tooth. It shifts really nice. Like it a lot.

I actually made very similar setup at the beginning of the year. (2019) i had a Club Car DS, aluminium frame which didn't make things easy. Found a go kart shop that sold the forward reverse gearboxes, but also had a fabricated engine mount that would accommodate the gearbox. It raised the engine about 2 inches, which didn't help. but I made it work. It was way too much work and the cost was stupid. I wouldn't recommend this. But it definitely was an experience. Here is a link to the engine mount. www.geminikarts.co.uk/product/f-n-r-gearbox-engine-mount/

Garrath Mckinley Thanks! I have had this done for a little while now. Mine wasn’t too bad thankfully.
