    I was rewinding motors about 20 years ago,that one in the video is a 2 pole lap wound 3 phase star connected electric motor. A client my boss rewound then for wanted the insides of the motor housings & the ends of the rotors painted with Isonel varnish for additional insulation (for an arc shield in the event that a winding may blow out & arc out to earth ) !

    The inside isn’t even cleaned out and you just slide new insulator paper over all that crap? The motor may spin, but not effectively or for long. You have the experience, so why not clean it up get out all old insulation and clean metal BEFORE continuing?

    If your not Putting these Stators in a vacuum pot when You Varnish the windings you arent doing it right they will never last the windings will eventually short in the slots due to vibration. This is the half ass way to rewind motors .No baker test no core loss test Not even a Hi-pot test Just Janky

    I have a couple of questions. Is that wire solid copper? Did you replace the bearings? Was that real time?

  • @GrimReaping

    @GrimReaping

    7 ай бұрын

    The wire is copper, but its coated to prevent arcs. Also, this wasnt real time. This process takes atleast 2 hours for a professional with correct tooling (for this size motor).

    Great video!! Really appreciated it! I'd have a couple of questions: What did you use for tighten the windings? What material are those strings and wrappings? And at the very end what did you brush on them? Thaaanks!

  • @RussellBooth1977

    @RussellBooth1977

    Жыл бұрын

    I can answer that, he's only using the cotton wrap to tighten the windings which has an alkalyd type of air dry brush on varnish applied to it. I was winding them 20 years ago using the dip & bake process after we heated up the whole motor frame in the baking oven,it was dipped in the same sort of varnish until the bubbles stopped rising to the surface because the varnish would soak in & displace the air trapped inside the winding,we would brush a Teflon coating on the end shield spigots before dipping.the whole winding & frame but. After the excess varnish had dripped off the frame of the motor we would bake it in the oven for about 1-2 hours to cure the varnish. The larger workshops would use a VPI (vacuum tank impregnation) to force air out of the windings then varnish into them.!
