Mark, I'm 66 and everything you say about those times is spot on. Three discos in our town and we would flit between them to the soundtrack of 70s music - ELO, BeeGees, ABBA and many, many more - magical times, thanks for bringing it to mind again. More please.

One of the best ELOs. And the music is great, the lyrics without vulgarities that compared to many today, is poetry. And if you haven't heard it yet, you need to hear "Turn to Stone".

You clearly havent heard much (or any) modern music as practically NONE of it has "vulgarities". You don't get your songs played on radio (at least here in the UK otherwise). I'm a huge fan of ELO. I'm also a huge fan of many current groups/singers. Open yuor ears and listen toi music non matter when it was written/performed.

I have fond memories of listening to this tune once, waiting for the last train to london after a fantastic weekend with someone I loved. A great tune.

Another superb reaction Mark, when I first heard this back in 79 I also thought the high chorus sounded like the BeeGees. Jeff Lynne couldn’t do anything wrong at this time. You’ve got to do All Over the World - I guarantee you’ll love it

Without a doubt, a top 10 ELO song for me, maybe top 5. It's so hard to even pick a top 10 with so many good ones to choose from. I know I am in the minority, but for me, Discovery is my favorite album. I was 14 when it came out. Out of the Blue comes in at #2, though it is very close.

One of the best Disco dancing songs ever!!!!!!!!!!! Just like Bee Gees but clearly the ELO and its own style. Just imagine those years! I was a very little kid, but I went with my parents to their dance classes. Just imagine the kind of music I heard there: ELO, Bee Gees, ABBA, Village People, KC & the Sunshine Band, Earth Wind & Fire, etc...Pure Magic! Regards from Chile! 🙂

We had class & style in the 70’s and 80’s and our music was also classy & sexy. So glad I got to grow up with the best musicians of those era’s.

Tell you what, if I walked into a club and this was playing, I would forego the bar and head right to the dance floor. Whenever you restart this on the third, fourth, fifth+ time... you make me LOL and my cat looks at me like "What???" Another great ELO tune is "So Fine" or "Boy Blue." But any ELO you pick will be great!

Hi. Yes, it is mainly Jeff Lynne singing (and he does multi-layer on some songs) but also Kelly Groucutt does backing vocals. Jeff Lynne is the only song-writer, he is main vocals and guitar, and this also he produced the albums. He is not a producer - who has worked with The Beatles, Travelling Wilburys (he is one of the band - honestly, try "Handle With Care" or "End of the Line"), George Harrison, Tom Petty, Paul McCartney, Roy Orbison - the list goes on. Jeff really is an under appreciated GENIUS.

I was in my teens when ELO were in their prime. Grown up with them, loved them ever since I heard Turn To Stone on the radio for the 1st time back in those days. Bought all their albums. Jeff Lynne is the main man behind them, songwriter, lead singer, guitarist, producer. I really dig your saying "every song the same, but different". Sometimes even very different if you listen to their early albums: ELO2, On The 3rd Day, Eldorado. I recall a quote from a bandmember of the 90's group Terrorvision who said if a song of ELO starts playing you fucking know it's them. Great to see how much you enjoy ELO! Cheers from Germany.

From the Xanadu soundtrack. Love all their songs on that soundtrack. How the song Xanadu didn't go to #1, I will never understand.

When this album came out I couldn't understand why no one else felt what I felt. You make my day as you express the joy I felt at the time that no one else seemed to get, I watch this reaction over and over as you express my feelings perfectly.

I;m lucky enough to have been old enough to hit the discos from 1977 onwards. And yes, i was suited and booted. Oh how sweet the girls were.

ALL ELO songs are the best ELO song. Do "TIME - Prologue and Twilight" You will NEVER hea a more perfect piece of music. It will scramble your noodles.

The two main vocalists in ELO were Jeff Lynne (Usually lead) and Kelly Grocutt (backing) though not related their vocals complemented each other perfectly. Bev Bevan, the drummer also provided occasional back up vocals, mainly doing the deeper vocals, that is him singing the "slow down" lyrics on Sweet Talking Woman.

Jeff Lynne is the lead singer but the bass player, kelly Groucutt provides the backing vocals. Kelly also released a solo album that was very good.
