    I spent half the video trying to figure out if you were sitting really close to the floor or if there were some sort of invisible table there. Really good optical illusion between the floor and the table.

    I love mic'ing little amps. Even tiny SS ones with pedals for weird tones. I have an old SS Marshall lead 15 mini stack that sounds amazing with a boost mic'd, line out to IRs, or a blend of both. 10" speakers also have their own character IMO. I assume because the wave projection is more centralized and focused. Great video. I really enjoy the channel. Cheers!

    Good question David Koval. Personally I've always favored recording close to the cone, I sometimes double mic, but prefer the purity of the single mic without the polarity issues. Happy recordings! Warren

    This amp (I own one.) is a really bright amp. Humbuckers, a good overdrive pedal, tone button all the way up and volume to about 3 makes really fun stuff. (at least to my hears)

    Exactly, my biggest issue with these “how to record electric guitar” videos is they never talk about the “when” and it’s always the “what” it is hard to gain insight without any context and you are only patching in one electric guitar. It’s hard to find videos like these really all that helpful.

    Hi Warren, I had a question about placement of the amp itself. Where in my room do I place the amp? Is it ok if it is back up against one of the side walls, or will the reflections/ reverb screw up the sound if i keep it there? Are there any do's and don'ts when it comes to positioning the amp in a small bedroom? (I'm using an open back combo amp btw) Thanks in advance!

    Love all your videos, but after spending years micing a guitar amp like this, I have changed my way of thinking. Since I use a Fender Twin, (a 2 12 amp sounds best for me}, I use one SM 57 and place it about 30 inches away from the amp and centerd. I love that full round sound. I sometimes place a secondary mic right behind the SM57 about 40 inches from the amp. I have a number of KZread videos and you can hear my average sound with the old technique and my new technique. And you can see if you can tell the difference or if one sounds better than the other. Same guitar, same amp. KZread, Joe Logsdon & Company. Old technique "You're A Dreamer", new techniqe all the other vids.

  • @TheSickNeeds

    @TheSickNeeds

    all depends on what your going for....if you want a heavy metal sound your certainly not wanting it to sound flat. Set the amp to what sounds best to you and then its the job of your other gear to capture that. The more post production you have to do the more ways things can go wrong. Consider it as using the right tool for the job.... if I wanted a vocal to sound like Whitney Houston it would be a lot simpler (if she was still alive) to have her do it rather then have me do it and then manipulate it after the fact.

    Amp only vs Amp and speaker either hardware or vst. I've had times i used a virtual guitar (good quality recorded samples) with a Amplitude using the amp and speaker emulations that sounded great. Other times i've used just amp emulations and they sounded great too. I haven't really studied into the purpose of speakers and i more often use amps only and EQ a lot. Is the advantage of using a speaker after the amp the tone and not needing to EQ much to create a tone?

  • @Producelikeapro

    Hi blood lord great question! Honestly I use real amps a lot because I'm a guitar player and I love them! I get a better feel from playing through one and I am very used to getting a sound I like with one, moving the mic, changing the mic etc are second nature to me now. However if I was coming up now I might learn on plug ins and I know that they can also create great sounds. I believe that understanding the equipment you own is of paramount importance, you don't always have to have expensive gear just a great understanding of what you have. Have a marvellous time recording, many thanks Warren

    Produce Like A Pro Are there sometimes you use the amp then put in straight into the daw with no speaker recording or speaker emulations? There are times i use speaker emulations after,but i find it easier to work with amp only and have to EQ a lot. I think using a speaker either recording it with a real one on a mic or speaker emulations with emulated mix placements works on tone so you don't have to EQ alot. I'm not very sure though since i haven't spent alot time using speakers after amp,but more time EQing after the amp lol.

    It really depends on the amp! To get the sound sometimes I have to crank it! If you have a good dynamic mic it will probably handle it, if not pull the mic back a bit and use a pad on the input

    If you've got Sound Engineer that's balanced your monitors first an knows what he's doing it shouldn't make difference really. No concern if you playing in pubs that instance. I'm Guitarist in my spare time but I work as Stage Technician as well Engineer in an independent music venue which is my source of information. But if your playing in front audience 300 capacity I would be least looking at 30 watt important thing as well make sure whatever amp decide to buy is rated properly. Hope that helps ☺️
