Electric Company - The Plumber
Фильм және анимация
From Episode 1 (1971). It's the plumber. I've come to fix the sink.
Note to the dimwits posting plumbing ads as video responses: Knock it off. I'm reporting every one of you to KZread. Enjoy being banned.

My son just responded to my knock with "Who is it?," and I had a massive flashback after responding, "It's the plumber...." He was confused, I was confused. Thanks for clearing out the cobwebs! I was 7 in 1971 :) This was, at that time, *hilarious.*

This just happened to me with my wife. I have no idea where it came from but it happened.
I'm 48, and learned to read from Electric Company. My mother (who died in 2008) would reference this cartoon throughout her life, and especially when the plumber came. Thanks for sharing the memories.

I'm also 48. This was one of my fave sketches from The Electric Company as a kid. I've been saying "Who Is It?" to my wife every so often, while she thought it was funny, she'd never seen the sketch until I showed it to her. Now she gets it and thinks it's even funnier.

@solomonmemprys, I loved watching “The Electric Company”, and I learned a lot from it. I wish this show had been on in reruns when my daughter was in elementary school.
I saw this when it was new... and it put me on the floor. 44 years later... it's still insane!!

Michael Powell LOL! I also saw this when it was new and it popped into my head today when……I had to call the plumber to fix the sink!!! 🤣🤣🤣💖👍🏻
I'm 82 and just called the plumber to come and fix the sink and had this flashback from when my kids were small. I told my daughter who grew up on Sesame Street and Electric Company and she found and texted this link. Imagine, being able to re-bond over this 52 years later!
This was one of my favorite Electric Company animations. My mother and I made a game out of it: whenever I rang our buzzer when I came home from school, she'd answer, "Who is it?" and I'd start the "It's the plumber" routine, and she wouldn't buzz me in until I did it the fourth time (just before the plumber has a heart attack, or faints). Thanks for the memory!

This show was back from my era too. I was sitting here and out of the blue, I said, " It's the plumber, I've come to fix the sink." Its a catchy saying, and Ive been saying it for many years. I just shared the animation with my grandkids :) they enjoyed it too :) Thanks for bringing it back to share it.

Since I was 10 years old, whenever I'm in the kitchen near the sink I always say the line "Its the plumber I've come to fix the sink". Thank you for this share.
I'm 54 and was just talking about getting a plumber to look at our sink and I had a flashback to this skit...literally haven't thought about it since I saw it as a young kid...All I learned from the Electric Comapny is evidently deeply engrained :). It was great to be able to see this again...thanks for posting it.
I quote this often when someone asks, "Who is it?" Invariably I get blank stares from the other person... I wish someone would get the reference! lol.
I remember seeing this segment about a hundred times in the '70s -- The Electric Company, a weekday show, used to repeat animated segments like this one three or more times a week until they were burned into our little noggins. This particular segment was among the first when the show hit the air in 1971. The vignette regarding the plumber with the heart condition wasn't the important part, at least as far as I was concerned. I remember thinking, at age nine, that the background music was among the coolest I'd ever heard. And these days, naturally, I am an enormous swing-and-jazz fan.
@MrRezRising

Their music was iconic. I'm a drummer now and Sesesme and EC were my introduction to jazz, and they knew what they were doing. Blues Clues came along at some point and really ran with the whole repetition thing. This comment is brought to you by the letter 'B'.
Oh, I remember this from my childhood. It's so funny that when my children were young and I would knock on their bedroom door, they would ask: Who is it? I would respond the same...."It's the plumber, I've come to fix the sink". So they've grown up listening to me say that but never saw it. Now I can show it to them. I never thought too search for it until now. I'm so happy I have. It's wonderful. Thanks for having it here!!!!

Sorry for such late response. I didn't get your post till just today. I don't know why. But Yes, something so simple stays with you. I've used that line so much...."Who Is It? It's the Plumber, I've come to fix the sink", with my children when they were tiny (they're adults now) and we still use it. I finally had to find it so that I could share it with them. I don't think that this segment is shown any more?
RIP The Plumber. He never fixed that sink.
@ JimTurner WoW what a blast from my childhood. Imagine today trying to explain the antics of Wiley E Coyote, Uncle Remus or a plumber dying from a heart attack. We are all sooooo overly sensitive and over-PC. We all turned out ok and didn't wear bicycle helmets while eating peanut butter sandwiches and never got participation awards! Thank you for the fond memories of not having to be PC! Bring on the original Sesame street, electric company and my sister's favorite "the magic garden" GO PBS NY!
I can only hope that when it's my time to go, I remember to go out like this guy.
One of my of my favorite sketches from THE ELECTRIC COMPANY.
When I taught first grade years ago, my students loved the Electric Company and this sketch was one of our favorites.
Yes! I don't think this will never get old. I enjoyed it as a child, but enjoy it more now! Great stuff! 😂
I just asked my hubby if he ever saw this skit, he hadn’t, so I sent it to him. I loved this!!! I’m 55 and loved Electric Company! Easy Reader was my dude 😎

I remember this great funny clip on the electric company. They did the samething on Captain Kangaroo. At my old job. There were lots of doors to open and close. You had to knock before you open them. I knocked on one door. Cindy said who is it? I said it's the plumber iv'e come to fix the sink. Cindy said come in. I said cool. I came in she said Hi. I said Hi and we both went back to work. That was along time ago. 😊
52. And remember this like yesterday. Hard to believe it came out the year I was born.
50+ years later, and my sisters and I still quote this! It sounds like a joke that Gabe Kaplan would tell on “Welcome Back Kotter”.

The skit that teaches TIMING IS EVERYTHING! Thanks for a much needed laugh! My timing is sitting down taking a break from trying to fix a lawnmower and finding this!
I can't believe I found this. I was knocking on the bathroom door other day at work, the boss said in a squueky voice, who is it? I blurted out, It's the plumber, I've come to fix the sink. I'm not sure he fgot it, but you guys did lol. Awsome.
At 10 I thought this was the funniest bit ever, loved, loved, loved The Electric Company
from the noise the plumber makes when he's walking, it sounds like he replaced his own hip with a ratchet from his toolbox (couldn't afford hip replacement surgery)

One of the best-spent sixty seconds of your life, right here with this video clip. 😎👍🏻
I wonder if the voice actor is Vincent Pastore..sure sounds like him. PS: I loved the Electric Company and am glad to have been a kid when ti was new.
This teaches you that plummah is spelled p-l-u-m-b-e-r
I’m 60 and this was a fav from the electric company
LOL, "Hmm, I forgot to read the TITLE of this video as Jim posted it, right up at the top of here!"
Watching an old All in the Family, Archie answers the door to a guy who goes "I've come to fix the fridge", and BOOM total recall of this sketch.
This takes me back, I can't believe I remembered this today!
My dad used to say "It's the plumber" whenever he came home, and I only just now realized why!
Classic cartoon from the Electric Company show. Poor plumber never got to fix the sink!😆🤣🤣
This has lived rent free in my head. Till this day, when i knock on my mom's door, she will say whooooo is it? And I will say, its the plumber, I've come to fix the sink.
One of those things I could remember throughout my lifetime but could never remember where I heard it. Now at 56, thank you KZread!!
I remember this one and letterman..this definitely brings me back..thanks for posting it
I saw this as a little kid, as I watched Electric Company a lot when it was originally on, and I really started reading and pencil-writing at 3 years old, even though most kids don't get literate until they start school. It cracks me up now that I'm grown up and see what is going on here. The plumber probably can't see that it's a parrot saying "who is it," and he is frustrated that no one is opening the door.
My dad used to say this to my brother and I whenever we said who is it. I am only 15, but he grew up in the 70's. He died when I was 11 and my brother was 8, this is a video that I hold very near to my heart

Just saw Stoey Mitchell tell this joke on a Carol Burnett rerun from 10/23/69. Remembered this cartoon from when I was 7.. Burst out laughing and had to find it. Thank you, OP.
I'm 57 years old and I had to show this to my older brother. We laughed and laughed!
My husband and I use this whenever I come home. I didn’t actually remember the ending though. That was even funnier then I remembered.
50 years old and loved this since I was 2😊
I remember seeing this a bazillion times on PBS in the late 70's & early 80's. Poor Plumber. The sink wasn't the only thing in need of fixing😱.
I'm doing some plumbing today under my kitchen sink, and it's not going too well. I'd give anything for this guy's help! Was sitting here joking with myself about it and remembered this from when I was a kid. I watced this cartoon almost every day for months when it was originally on The Electric Company. Thank you for posting it, and helping make my rotten day go a little nicer with a giggle. lol

The water main break at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena somehow reminded me of this classic hilarious skit!!
Wow this brings back so many memories. Anyone who remembers this is a friend of mine 😜
The line, “It’s the plumber. I’ve come to fix the sink.” is a line I’ve heard from time to time in other comedy shows, including Mystery Science Theater 3000. It’s instantly recognizable as being fron this animated skit in The Electric Company, which so many of us watched as children in the 1970s.
"IT'S THE PLUMB-AHH!" Hehe, growing up in Boston during the '70s, I identified with the character's accent, although I realised years later that it was a Brooklyn accent. 😅
This one and “W,” (when Wanda washes her wig on a windy winter Wednesday) are my childhood favs.
I spent my weekend fixing the leaky pipes under my sink. What a disaster it was. All through the job I kept repeating this phrase. My wife didn't remember this scene until I found it here on KZread 🤠. It's the plumber I've come to fix the sink. I finally fixed it after 3 more trips to Home Depo. 🤠
My parents told me about this skit and I've heard it referenced in several other shows. It was even referenced in Recess lol. It's cool to finally see the real skit. Thanks for sharing! :D

Thanks so much for this video! I just got reminded of this again, and LOVED re-watching it! Takes me back to a better, vanished time, when I was about 7 years old! They used to run Electric Company in the middle of the school day, and we all just soaked it in! Now, I'm trying to get my 5-year old great nephew into it. It's hard, dragging him away from his Spider-Man video games! And yes, I know Spider-Man's on Electric Company, too. So far, it doesn't really move him (yet)!

I am still laughing about this since I saw it in 1971 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂. When he grabbed his chest I thought about all the times Fred Sanford would say ooooh Elizabet dis da big one!!
I'm 63 with 3 grown kids...they ALL watched Electric Company, so much so when anyone asks "Who is it?" I say.....its the plumber, he's come to fix the sink" no one knows what the hell I'm talking about.
I remember this episode very well, in fact my brother and I would do a version of this for other kids... we took turns being the Parrot.. LOL
Growing up in Massachusetts then moving down to SC and realizing that they nixed sidewalks and have a plethora of ditches. One tends to forget them on a beverage or 2. Next you are in one of those freaking ditches.
I remember there being a live action version of this too. Jim Boyd as the plumber. Anyone else remember this? Maybe my imagination.
@Sam-for-Dyce
2 жыл бұрын
While I don't recall it, I wouldn't be surprised if it exists. EC apparently loved to do live-action nods to their cartoons, including this one. Incidentally, I remember Luis Avalos as the plumber who said that same line, after gallons of water were let loose on Morgan Freeman at his supper. Another live-action sketch, with "Buster Boy," had an actual parrot say the line, though obviously as a voiceover -- maybe Jim Boyd?
Thank you for this flashback!
Quite hilarious. Moreover my grandmother always liked the music in the background!
I still remember this one 40 years later. It was obvious a rerun as I was only 1 at the time.
Damn bird!
this little cartoon skit just randomly came into my mind today, so of course, I had to look it up on youtube. Not surprised it's here. This cartoon used to stress me out lol because the plumber got so upset.

Fun childhood memories
This is epic the plumber I remember this clip from Electric Company totally funny classic. Yeah I’m a plumber too!
I loved this show as a child.
One of the world's top 10 jokes.
I’ve always responded “Its the Plummer...” to my kids when they’ve asked “who is it”? It just occurred to me now that KZread my have a clip of my childhood cartoon!! Yes!! Now they get my give, n they dig it!!! ( I was 7 in 1971)
I saw this when I was 7, back in 1978, and I have been doing this every chance I get when someone says anything close to "who is it" :D
I say this all the time to people wen they ask "who is it?". I don't care whether they get it or not, I am funny to amuse myself and nobody else. It's how I live 24/7. I throw references out all the time to things that nobody else gets. Once in a while a person gets it and that is fun.
My dad says this on a daily basis
I wonder if Mario gets tired of hearing this so many times in his life.
@michellenstephens So happy you enjoyed it. I think it may have aired a few times as part of Sesame Street, too. But with both productions coming from CTW, I'm not surprised at the cross-pollination.

This is much darker than I remember hahaha

Comedian Scoey Mitchell told this joke on The Carol Burnett Show in 1969.

classic.
still funny after all these years. The way I remember the story is when the woman returns and finds the plumber lying dead at her front door, she drops her groceries, and cries out: "OMG there's a dead man in front of my apartment - I wonder who he is" At which point the parrot says: "It's the plumber".
not many get it when i say that... maybe that is why i do 😂 its the plummer, i've come to fix the sink. glad i found this. thought i was losing it at 60+
Sanitised: the version I know was considerably longer - and bluer.
