I started going in 1989 to the "World's 100" as Mr. Clum and track announcer Terry Baltes (Earl's son) used to call it! Here is an amazing stat: Freddy Smith made the feature 17 consecutive years from 1981 - 1997! It is still a record! In those days you had over 200 cars trying to make a 24-car feature!

Any one have videos of the heat races from 87? It rained that year and the heats were late getting started. I remember a film crew from Australia interviewing us after our heat.

I loved watching the evolution of the late model. It's incredible how much they changed from 75 to 85.

I miss those wedge cars with the big rear panels. They died way too soon.

16.11 was the track record in 1987 and today it is 14.76. Late Models have come a long way.

What makes that really crazy is that the non wing sprint record is 14.71, and I'm sure the lm's will break that mark soon.

Costs have raised exponentially in 30 years, yet the track record has only dropped 1.35 seconds. At least safety has come a long way.

Doug was one of the most fierce competitors to ever come out of north Georgia. A good guy and great racer.

Never saw him race but IMO Kenimer is the best ever in dirt late models. Won all kinds of races at many different tracks before racing was a he who spends the most wins the most game.
