In Hastings, New Zealand, a unique "coffin club" has been formed for elderly members who build and personalise their own caskets. Despite the morbid-sounding activity, club meetings have maintained a lighthearted atmosphere. The morbid work even opens doors to lighthearted discussion of a serious topic. The club aims to empower people to plan the end of their lives, and spares their relatives the burden of rising funeral costs.

Older People: wait, we can customize our coffin. Young people: 👁️👄👁️
Death is part of life. Admire them having the positive attitude & foresight to deal with it on their own terms. 👏
This is amazing and opens up creativity.
I thought its dark enough to have cemetery built right across nursing home
This is creeping me out…
This is kinda sad and depresing
They have courage to build their own coffee they must have prepared for life after the death.
Yeah, but they aren't going to get buried. That's insanely expensive here. They're getting cremated.
Amazing! Can we have that in the UK, please?!😃
This is a wonderful thing. It may even make younger people treasure their time live more.
Great idea. 👍🇦🇺
Oh my goodness..
This is very sad

Did you even watch the video? Everybody is smiling, being social and thoughtful of their families. This isn't sad, its beautiful
Amazing ❤
That’s just depressing. But who knows how we’re going to feel at that age. They seem to think it’s fun…ugh 😒 hopefully plenty more decades before I get like that
I live in China. Everything is miserable here, but no one dares to complain. Seriously if there is next life, I wish to be born in any other country, except China.
This is so beautifully human ♥️ I’d like to be planted in a tree when it’s my time
I wonder if they do their own Coffin Dance
Uh oh
So they are digging their own graves?
If you’re from Ohio pls don’t call me zesty
I am 26 right now. And I don't wanna live past 60.

@@indiastillnotoilets What were you doing with the Pigs?
I would love to do this. I wanted to buy a casket off Amazon and keep it in my bedroom, ready to go, but they weigh 300 pounds which I could not move into the house by myself or around the room. How long before the New Zealand morticians lobby for a "law" to prevent these guys from making their own caskets? They must hate the competition. That's what they would do in the U.S. The national association would buy off enough congress members to stop it. United States of Corruption, thanks to $$ and lobbyists.
Sorry SCMP, for not covering news from MisterBig’s country Bharat (India)
Morbid.

Isn't China bias against Australia right now? I imagine the government is teaching that to their citizens. Last I heard, China isn't trading with Australia anymore. Even though I understand that this is New Zealand.
