5:07 this made the lore nerd in me so fucking happy. the dragons and dragonborns, indeed all dragonic entities, only crave power because they are anuic, inline with the forces of stasis. dragonic entities have an instinct to either enforce a new order or maintain an existing one. straight up miraak wants to "set things right" and make things orderly.

As is his prerogative, yes? Auri-El = Time-Soul, Akatosh = Time-Body, Alduin = Time-Ending, Dragonborn = Time-Transition? Dragonborn = Time-Transition would make a lot of sense considering it is historically Dragonborn individuals who bring massive revolution to Tamriel.

@@lisbette1731 you're right that Dragonborns often bring massive revolutions to Tamriel however they only do that when things disorderly in their eyes and, and enforce a status quo when things are orderly. Although you're 100% right, I'd argue that shezzarines fit the bill even more than Dragonborns. Since shezzarines are in line with the forces of chaos, they tend to be super apeshit and change Nirn in completely unforseen ways. Me and my girlfriend were discussing this recently and she thinks that for this reason, Shezzarines come about less often and are more powerful. You wouldn't want another pelinal every other week, everything would be so apeshit you'd never get anything done.

@@fartinmartin404 Dragonborns impose their will onto the universe, their prerogative is to shape order from chaos, as I imagine is what Akatosh wills them to do when he transfers part of his essence into them. Though because they're sentient, and because choice is a huge underlying theme in TES legendarium, they are given the choice to instill chaos, or a 'chaotic order', if you will. So important is this choice between individual ambition and purpose, that it becomes a key theme in TES V: Skyrim - especially when Miraak enters the picture. The whole moral of Miraak's story is this important choice all Dragonborns have: to bring order to disorder, or to impose one's own will, and in the end, Miraak chose to impose his own will, as any sane person would do if effectively imprisoned by Hermaeus Mora, and before, told that it was his duty to defeat the World Eater.

Miraak is in my eyes the ultimate symbol of free will. The Universe made him the dragonborn for the purpose of defeating Alduin. He hated the notion of being part of some destiny so he chose otherwise. Then he tried to be free of Hermeus Mora. Eventho he met his tragic end in the battle with the Last dragonborn, he stayed true to himself by being the master of his own fate till his last breath. Quite symbolic ...

He wasn’t made for the purpose of defeating Alduin though. The elder scrolls are fragments of creation that exist outside of time. He was never meant to defeat Alduin. The LAST Dragonborn was. Which was the player. There’s a literal prophecy of who was meant to defeat Alduin and it certainly wasn’t Miraak. It’s not even free will. It was what was meant to happen. Him not slaying Alduin was destined. This idea that he could defy the prophecy and “deal with Alduin” is really arrogant. Miraak is a pawn of fate just like everyone else. His actions just made way for the prophecy of the last Dragonborn to happen. The elder scroll is where the prophecy came from. Not even Miraak can defy that. He was not made to defeat Alduin. Hope this helps! 😋

given the context of some of these cut lines. bethesda probably at somepoint wanted him to be a companion and probably romancable. I can think of no other reason why lines such as "im glad your here" would be voiced like that.

@@fartinmartin404 In the original one the voice actor gives off the impression of a fucking badass, who was imprisoned in Apokrifa (sorry if spelt wrong, im russian and idk how its spelt in english), and just wants revenge on the whole world. He clearly did live for hundreds of years. In the russian version he kinda sounds more like a fallen hero (i know he isnt but that's the impression that the voice actor gives off). He doesn't really ever sound villanous. Oh, and my favourite line of his "Do you ever wonder if it hurts? To have one's soul ripped out like that?" is just so good in the russian version. He doesn't really have the voice effect on his voice as well, and the voice is clearly way older.

I admire Miraak for his persistence and cunning, he was a prisoner of Mora and would've done anything to escape his clutches, and that includes luring the Last Dragonborn to Apocrypha so they can take his place. Surely, we all would've done the same as Miraak if we were trapped with Mora for 5,000+ years.

Some of those unused lines are really interesting ngl, sounds like originally you would've had the option to work with him and/or betray him

@@jackgrove4621 My guess is that one of the words is not actually required to complete the shout. We are told multiple times that every shout is three words. No exception. Even Alduin's name is just three words. I would guess it could be something along the line of zii los dii du meaning "your soul is mine to devour", but only "los dii du" are the words of the shout. Just a theory.

When I played dragonborn I kinda rushed to the end without even trying, I killed miraak with my overpowered warhammer build and didn't got to hear 80% of those voice lines :\

I like the he called the planet Earth. Skyrim had a whole language pain stakingly crafted for the sake of dragons, and the elders scrolls itself has multiple languages, but Miraak used a word that in theory shouldn't exist.

Miraak and Alduin aren’t so different in some ways, one had a destiny to swallow the world but instead he wanted to rule it, the other had no destiny but wanted to make one for himself and did but failed in the end due to his arrogance but they both wanted free will that is clear

@@JD-ql2gu Alduin ironically saved their life from being executed and mistaken for a rebel and Miraak threatened to kill them perhaps not literally kill them but kill them as in trap them in The Black Book so they can't get out while he escapes leaving them there If the fight with Miraak had been longer Miraak would've likely knocked them over grabbing them by the throat and choking them attempting to strangle them until they can't breathe and the fight would likely be more brutal. Since Miraak is more experienced in fighting and using his shouts than our character who knows how badly it would've gotten since he's stronger than the protagonist especially if Hermaeus Mora hadn't stabbed him.

In fact in most shows and videogames if the main protagonist didn't have their friends they could've become like their dark reflection enemy. Miraak is also a dark reflection of the main protagonist.
