When Marika banished death, she inadvertently perverted nature. Some creatures grow continually through out their life until their body can no longer support itself and dies. But without death they'd keep growing.

Ikr moments like that are part of what makes Elden Ring so fascinating to me. Exploration is very important to me in any game I play, so to be rewarded so many times for looking around was very satisfying. The lack of meaningful loot and worthwhile exploration is a big part of why I didn’t like ff 16.

May not be perfect, but FromSoft's enemy placement and art direction did a great job in making me 'nope' out of there when I initially encountered those giant ants. The cramped areas where you would see nests, around openings where you can see them gather to pounce you, and even some open fields where you have a combination of flying and regular ants guarding an item with corpses nearby made it look more intimidating than it really was. Easy to take down, though I was once stupid enough to try to fight two of the armored headed ones, uh, head on. The only thing missing are sniper rifles and shotguns.

Just one clarification- the bloated ants are not queens, they're actually more like feeding reservoirs for the colony. Honeypot ants can actually do that in real life

In Liurnia of the Lakes, the presence of crayfish is due to the presence of the Moon Worship. As the Tarot Card "the moon" has a crayfish emerging from the water, it symbolizes the depths of the unknown(be it depths of water or the depths of darkness and space). As a Pagan, I just noticed this..the presence of the crayfish could be a symbol that no matter what, there's always a presence of the hidden and unknown

A consistent theme in Dark souls was that eating humans would cause beings to "bloat" in size like; man eater mildred, the butchers, Smough and Aldrich. I wouldnt be surprised if it was the same case for Elden Ring to have creatures grow bigger when eating humans.

You didn't mention the giant land squirts, or giant crabs. I have this theory that in Elden Ring, as in other FromSoft games, there is some association between water and the divine. Many of the giant animals are sea creatures. The oracle envoys drop strip of white flesh when you kill them, making me think they're sea creatures of some kind. Their swaddled faces also remind me of Mother Kos in Bloodborne. And the biggest sea creature of all, the Elden Beast, who looks like some kind of space nudibranch, who you fight in a giant lake. "Giant sea creatures" seems to be a major recurring theme in the Lands Between.

I'm still not sure where the giant rats fit into all this, but rats of all sizes can drop rune arcs, which makes very little sense to me. Even the 'small' rats drop them. Maybe everything got enormous from years of eating runes. Anyway, I still think the blood heretics would make a decent October video. Do you?

The odd impression I get about the land octopi is that they fled the ocean for some reason. I also find it odd there is that one beach in Southwest Limgrave where you have a lot, and I mean a lot of zombies wandering towards the ocean to stare at it. They will move towards it as one big group and just stand there looking out like they are waiting for something. The first time I ran into them, I half expected some sort of giant water creature to come out at night to be worshiped by them. Especially with how many shipwrecks can be seen in the distance. For the ants, I suspect they grew so large by feeding on the roots of the Lesser Erdtrees, or rather any sweet liquids potentially secreted by them. They could have also over the years snacked on humans, who got their nourishment from the Erdtree transferring some of that to them via digestion. Though, this is just my head canon and not really anything concrete to go on.

I think a part of that comes from how the ants don't always act like you'd expect ants to do and instead come off as being more akin to wasps at some point. Ants are bad enough. But ants that take a page out of a wasps book? No, thanks!

There is monster like the Kraken? (From folklore and cryptids lore, not modern media) hes related to the nordic-icelandic draugr through the name Drauen* (draugen "sea spirit") who can pretend to be an see-weed covered rocks, similiar to another related mythical being - the hafgufa, whale like created who is so big, that a humb of hs body will look like an island. This is also related to the world serpent/wyrm, the Lagarfljót Worm and even remind the mollusk/caterpillar like traits of the horned serpents in canada.

One thing that I wanted to point out is that towards the end of the video, you describe the bloated ants to be queens. In real life, these "bloated" ants that look like this are used as living food storage for the other ants by holding liquified food in their secondary stomach. I'm not sure if its what you meant but I don't believe that these ants would be a descendant of the numen, but rather they probably just killed some (if thats possible) and stored their bodies for later consumption.

  • @square-table-gaming

9:02 I feel that the low resistance is suggesting the ants themselves would serve as a good vessel for the rot, which could be an explanation for the Blade. If you worshiped the rot, why not chose to make a weapon of something that could..."host" it, if you will, and thus allow you to weaponize it so on so forth.

I'm seeing that FromSoftware is drawing a parallel here. There are many, many references to earlier periods of time regarding our planet. Main source here being the name Ordovis and Siluria which is a direct reference. And fun fact: the planet had at some point giant insects. Arthropods that ranged from one foot to eight foot. This, was because their larvae benefited from a large surplus of oxygen during the Carboniferous period, which caused them to grew to such sizes. Could it be that the giant ants, the giant crayfish and the rest of other creatures are just really old?
