The actual No 1 is a double annoyance: Resurrecting Torrent Step 1: Get a message informing you that you are about to use a flask to resurrect Torrent (which will lock everything but basic movement until accepted/declined) Step 2: It's defaulted to NO (making you swap to the D-Pad, so not even able to move anymore, to change it to YES)

I'm convinced this dialog option is a developer troll. There's NO situation in which Torrent has died that there's time to go through confirmation dialogs, especially for a resource that's just going to regenerate when you die. Like, yeah, that dragon just mashed Torrent into a fine paste, did a ton of damage to me and is preparing to cover the entire area with fire , but let's carefully consider whether I can afford to use one of my remaining flasks on the only thing that can get me to safety.

  • @AcidDotDrop

@@v10d10t You mean a downside like spending on of your own flasks? And you do understand that Torrent can be one shoted by several attacks, making torrent heals irrelevant in that scenario? I use an Xbox controller and no, just because I can tilt the stick while using the d pad, doesn't equate to deliberate moving. If you wanna find excuses, go for it but that doesn't change the fact how some controlls are badly optimised. All they had to do was default it to yes

  • @AcidDotDrop

    @AcidDotDrop

@@v10d10t That's what you are doing, I refuted both your claims as nonsensical and irrelevant. And instead of giving me a counter argument, you accuse me of what you are doing... You complain about my statement and how dare I to not agree with you. You have the chance to proof me wrong, do it. If torrent is killed by a one shot you are thrown off it, are vulnerable and in order to resummon it, have to spend one of your flasks to resurrect it. So you are stunned for a few seconds and use two flasks to heal yourself and resurrect torrent... what more punishment do you need? How is the structure of the message justifiable and an enhancement of the gaming experience? Go ahead, it's your moment to show me how my assessment is wrong and you are right and that you are not just making excuses to avoid criticism towards a game you seemingly don't wanna see criticized .

My first experience with the game: I immediately turned around after getting into Limgrave at base level which was 9. Immediately stumbled on that treasure chest and ended up in that cave. I fought my way out but was still in the middle of Caelid, and I don’t think I had any sites of grace open in Limgrave. So I had to traverse Caelid at level 9 with NO map or knowledge of the game and had the worst time of it. But it made me stronger as a player and gave me this EPIC tier story to tell about it.

Well, I opened it, dodged the trap, and then returned to the chest expecting a reward. The chest was closed again. I'd like to see is a journal that lists all of the NPCs you've met as well as all of the lines of dialogue that you've unlocked with that NPC thus far. The journal could be broken down into sections which could include NPC dialogue, texts from sword fields, the cryptic dialogue with the various ghosts you encounter, all of your recipes learned (maybe turn the cookbooks into a usable item that adds the entries into the crafting section of the journal), and also move the notes and tutorial info out of the inventory and into their own section of the journal. Something like that would be useful but would still require the player to think about the things they are reading rather than have a full-on quest journal or markers.

You don't need quest markers. You can place different markers, and you can't really forget the NPC locations. The world doesn't have lots of filler NPCs like other open worlds. I'll admit that fighting Margit was a pain in the ass but then I realized that because of his constant aggression it actually helped me learn to wait to dodge instead of panic dodging like I was doing before. I think I fought him like 10 times minimum and most of those deaths were because I got either overly aggressive or didn't time a dodge just right. More of a learning experience than anything

About the npc's not being marked, it's both us and no. Those who stay in a specific location for a period of time will be marked, once you find and interact with them. But in unfortunately for those who's quest lines your trying to complete, one you trigger an event that causes then to move to their next location, then it becomes difficult to remember where your supposed to go, and what your supposed to do. Specially if and when you get side tracked.

Because I am new to this game and franchise and was so busy learning the game, I did not realise there were side quests (which I already started) until like 1/4 into the game. Regarding Margit, in Dark Souls 1 the starting areq diverged into 2 paths, one of which had some very tough enemies. This is how the devs told the players that unless you want a tough challenge you're better off going the other way and come back when you reach a higher level. The same logic applies to Margit: the devs want you to spend some time levelling up in the world before facing him

My thoughts on this list: 10) Yeah, agreed. the community can sometimes be obnoxious 9) Disagree. Margit is a great boss because it's the game's way of telling the player they're not ready yet. there's a whole entire world out there, so go explore, become stronger, become more comfortable with the world. It's a rude awakening to players who rush through the main quests in games and do nothing else, and I think that's great. 8) Somewhat disagree. the damage negation that armors offer in this game is not the best, so the difference between having a helmet on and not having one is pretty negligible. So you can rock your favorite armor and still be helmet free to see your character without big consequences. 7) don't really have an opinion on them... i don't mind killing the pot guys 6) Disagree. Losing runes and having to go back and collect them is a great mechanic that doesn't need changing. However, one part where I will agree is when you die to stupid platforming and your lost runes are stuck in the middle of the platforming section, which means you will have to carefully complete half of the platforming to even recover the runes. 5) Highly disagree. The lack of quest markers and handholding is one of the best aspects of the game. People thing Souls games are a challenge because of just their gameplay. No, even interpreting the story and following questlines are a challenge, and that's what makes them worthwhile. People who are pissed about this because they are too used to having quest markers everywhere, I say 'GOOD, deal with it.' 4) Disagree. Teleportation catches you off-guard the first time, but the game offers you enough time to roll away to not get caught in the trap, so you can be more prepared to not repeat your mistakes, which is one of the building blocks of souls games; learning from your mistakes. Moreover, you never know where it will teleport you to, so if you still wish to find out, it will be out of your own volition. 3) Agree. Fuck Basiliks. Although, it's better than Dark souls 1 where they don't permanently take away half your HP and attack power. And I think there aren't that many in Elden ring relatively speaking to how huge the world of Elden ring is. 2) Agree. Especially the lake of rot. What a terrible place, and there's also a boss in the middle of the lake. You'd think they'd stop with that, but no, it's even worse in the Haligtree where the swamp is deeper and there's a boss in the middle with little to no room to fight. Fortunately, it's easily cheesable, perhaps even intended to be cheesed 1) Yeah, agreed, for the same reason as 10.

Only thing I want is some sort of tracker for quests/dialogues. Specially so that it's open-world so people are bound to get distracted a lot, which is not much of a problem with past games since they're pretty linear. The amount of times I had to look up the Wiki just to remind myself gets frustrating. Also, adding a "Hide helmet" feature like in Monster Hunter would be really nice.

None of this irritates me all that much... except for the last one. I will tolerate seeing 100 "Try finger, but hole" messages just to see the one that points me in the direction of a critical, largely optional treasure (weapon, incantation, talisman, etc) I would've missed otherwise. But players putting messages in locations that get in the way of playing the game itself is the most irritating part to me. They put them under ladders, right at the very top of them, right next to levers, i've opened a few treasure chests and is met with a message in my face! In most cases the interactive object takes priority over reading the message but every once in a while trying to jump on a ladder before getting sliced in the back feels like a juggling act. Flipping through the option of reading the message to climbing the ladder or running up to a lever and reading the message instead of pulling it while the wave of enemies I ran past start to catch up. Now i'm just going full blown Karen and down voting messages like that based on location instead of just what they are saying lol

TLDR Version of my last comment: Commenters edition please? My suggested annoyances: *Dogs and Rats. *Inability to open map when the game thinks enemies are near enough to justify it. *When inputs don't respond regardless of full stamina costing a second when seconds count (primarily "weapons stance" based sword skills) *All the "Cheap" RNG feeling moments. *When the game doesn't save even though you Quit Game correctly. *Invaders who won't fight. *Lag and connection failures. *Game notifications on screen that prevents use of L1/L2 and R1/R2. (EG: "Somewhere a Door has been Opened") *Target lock *And because it deserves repeating: Signs below ladders or that otherwise intentionally block interacting with in-game objects.

I, too, quickly learned in Elden Ring: to make the fight against Margit easier, faster and more efficient you shouldn't fight him too early, but have leveled up the character and its main weapon a bit and gained experience with the combat system, but that goes quite quickly ... then you should go ahead at the beginning of the fight at the portal and summon the NPC Sorcerer Rogier to help, also a robust spirit ashes, if possible with several spirits, and you should definitely have purchased "Margit's Shackle" from the NPC Patches beforehand (see WIKI) and use it next to Margit in the fight three times before Margit gets his glowing hammer ... and then this fight isn't as bad as it's always portrayed ... Godrick as the final boss in this castle isn't as violent as feared either, you can summon the NPC Nepheli Loux, Warrior and spirit ashes for help as well (see WIKI) ... and if you act agile and smart, you may prefer to use a fast weapon without long animations, stay close to the boss if possible and don't just run away most of the time, then these fights are over relatively quickly ... doing all this I killed them both in my first try with my different characters ... only imo all the other tricks and tips confuse more than they help ... Elden Ring offers all these possibilities, the developers didn't do it for nothing, so you can and should use all of them as a player, it can be that simple to No. 5: it wouldn't have hurt if the developers had at least integrated a diary so that it's easier to remember what you've already done or which quest lines you've triggered, instead I now have a lot of handwritten notes so I don't lose track, for me this is my biggest problem in Elden Ring ... but on the other hand, I don't have any problems with occasionally providing information in the WIKI or here on KZread when, despite all my efforts, I really don't know what to do and that doesn't reduce my enjoyment of the game, on the contrary it protects me from too much frustration and guesswork ... but that's nothing why I have to "hate" the game because it's entirely up to me how I deal with it yes, those annoying portal traps, but it's very simple, either you instantly roll back a long way when such fog traps appear, or in the new area - and otherwise - you just run away or out as quickly as possible instead of always fighting everything that comes your way and what you don't know yet

8:30 I mean before they patched that feature in, I would just mark NPC locations on my map where I found them and would then just try to keep an eye out for them whenever I went somewhere new. Because the fact that Elden Ring has a really detailed map is actually something of a game changer for souls-like games. Granted I only ever got lost once or twice in Bloodborne, but the map has the functionality to help you keep track of NPC's.

A few of these are resolved, like NPCs are marked on the map after discovery, and actions are always the first selected option, above messages and such, so even if a message is at the bottom of a ladder, go to the ladder and press triangle or whatever, and you'll start instantly climbing the ladder. You have to cycle through the lesser options to read a message. Same with levers, doors, items, etc. The important action is the first option.

First time I beat Margit I died a thousand times, second time I beat Margit, I don’t die at all. His attacks do not have a lot of patterns, and it gets confusing when he switches the attacks from his front to his back. He can be beaten once you learn his strat but even then it’s hard for new players to get a hang of fighting him. Though he was less of a disappointment than Godrick, which I only died like 4-5 times from, and he’s meant to be tougher than Margit using his dragon head. But btw trust me that when he grabs that dragon head, his dragon flamethrower attack makes him EVEN MORE vulnerable than before when he only had his axe, since all you have to do is be literally right next to him until it finishes and you could just keep slashing him and beating on him up close, making the fight a lot more easy.

Spell range is number one. Don't allow targeting if you can't reach them. Also, some AOE spells mysteriously miss baddies that are clearly in the area but might be slightly off up/down, like on a ramp or in a little divet

I wonder how the lock on mechanic didn't make it on this list. It's so annoying when you look straight up to an enemy but it won't let you lock on to him. Or when the enemy is behind you and when try to lock on, you look in the opposite direction exposing your back to the enemy. Can't say how many deaths this caused for me.

I love getting lost in elden ring and the no quest markers is helping me a ton with this. because even if you don’t mean to and you tell yourself I gonna explore a bit it’s so easy to get caught up in a side quest and your exploring devolves into. Grab quest Open map Find marker. Go to marker Finish quest Repeat Instead of getting into what people are saying half the time you end up just going from quest to quest doing things over and over again.

The crystal tunnels got me to an early rune farm that got me a lot of levels. It was great for me. As far as quest markers/etc I like exploring, but when you have a bunch of vague comments that probably don't mean anything to you when you hear it... it would be nice to have a journal that would document your encounters so that you could remember what that one dude said 90 hours ago before he vanished off the face of the planet. Also, don't understand why people think that giving zero logs is something new. All the barebones games in the early days were like that. Giving markers and an on screen quest list were the new thing. A nice in between that some older games gave was a journal and I really like that since it doesn't hold your hand but still makes the info accessible without taking notes irl or looking up guides. If the player feels a need to track stuff outside the game then it's probably not well designed.

This. I dont want my hand held but i've put nearly 100 hours into this game already and havent beaten it yet. Theres no way I am going to remember what fuck head depressed boy said 30 hours ago over multiple days of play. Don't give me a damn quest marker, but a journal of "you met so and so here and they said this and then said they were traveling east". I will scour the map eastward if im interested in that quest line. Esp in a world as open and as large as this. In dark souls this format worked because it was pretty linear in progression, you would likely come across those NPCs again. I completely missed the invade questline at first because i just never found the rose church until a friend told me about it.

Remember dying in this game is a mechanic meant to happen. Your character is immortal the bosses are not. You can always come back and try again. There is a formula to every fight once you pick up on it your good. Always spend all your runes before going to a big battle. If you have no runes you have nothing to loose

If someone really likes character creating like I do and is tired of helmets, try this: Don't equip a helmet. It seems like a joke but you can get way better chest pieces, gloves and trousers for your Endurance if you just straight up remove the helm. Sure, enemy attacks will hit harder, but just slightly harder than not having a helmet since you compensate with the rest of the set being heavier.
