Tree Sentinel tells you that you don't need to fight every enemy you find. Algheel tells you that you can use your horse in a field boss, and Margit tells you this is an open world game.

He specifically delays his attacks to stop panic rolling. It’s aggravating at first but you get used to it.

  • @GriFFonRec4

    @GriFFonRec4

    2 жыл бұрын

It's actually so you can land attacks in between. If you attack him in between his delays it's EASIER to dodge the attacks since you are creating your own rhythm. Try dodging his opener, notice when he's doing the long attack, and then charge a full R2, you'll have JUST enough time to dodge out the way. It's when you're doing nothing that it's hard to stay on beat (if you feel you noticed it late then you don't charge the R2). Like the dude said, attack after his strings are "over" can be hard because he has optional extenders. The time you should attack are during his attacks.

i always considered him the gatekeeper who teaches you its ok to use summons and ashes while still allowing experienced players to play in a more difficult style without them. side note i used the skeleton duo as my summons the entire game they are sleeper OP because they just keep coming back and its not hard to get most bosses to chase you during their respawn so they dont die.

The only reason i killed him was because of panic rolling. I saw lots of streamers during early release struggling with this guy and i wss expecting to hit a wall like i did with Midir on DS3 but i was wrong. This boss was underwhelming , i am not lying to, killed both bosses from stormveil castle on my first try. Level 18 samurai, +2 sword.

Why Margit is a phenomenal first boss: He makes you learn new habits for future fights, sets the theme for the game, gives you a lot of satisfaction when beating him for your first time, is memorable, and most importantly.... Shows you how bosses have smart programming and will do certain attacks to counter what you are doing (healing, using magic, ect.) A first boss is the most important boss in a game and Elden Ring did a great job with theirs.

I agree 100%. I did myself a disservice in my approach against Margit because I never had to gain those habits. I was a bit overleveled and abused both spirit summons and the npc summon. By that point his ai was split between too many enemies so I just stood back and thew spells at him. Flash forward later in the game and my sense for dodging was completely fucked and as soon as I stopped using summons I was getting dropped like nothing.

It is unfortunate that I beat him on my first try as a new Souls player. I didn't over-level or use the npc summon but I still felt like I cheesed him. I used the Astronomer class and I started with the Imp ashes because it was the only one that I couldn't tell what it does from the description. Simply put, those things were so good at keeping his aggro that I was able to pebble him to death first try. Thankfully I learned alot from Godrick, probably the second hardest boss fight for me so far (I just beat Fire Giant, the hardest so far). Though probably cause I was underleveled and had not enough weapon upgrades. I literally had to run only mana pots so I would have enough fp to finish the job.

After practicing Margit for a long time in NG+, a lot of his attacks depend on where you stand, the daggers for example, he will only use them if you are close in front of him. This can be used to bait some attacks so for example, if you know that after one move, if you are close, he can do another one that you can safely punish, you can bait that move by intentionally approaching him.

I find the toughest part about fighting Margit is just how many combos he can string together with almost no windup aside from knowing the explicit few attacks that he CAN'T follow up on. Especially in his 2nd phase, he'll do a full 4 hit combo, you'll run up to get a hit on him, he will immediately launch into his dagger swipe attack, and chain another 3 hit combo without any warning.

Margit aside, the much higher HP soft cap is also a huge indicator of the damage that will be coming at you later in the game. In DS 2 and 3 it was 27 IIRC. In ER it's 40, and even 40 is not where you should stop unless you're supremely confident in your ability to dodge or parry. It took me way too long to figure that out. I made it to Radahn with 16 VIG and then realized that 16 VIG is nothing. It's basically farting into a hurricane. And like you said, you're basically expected to clear Limgrave and Mistwood before going to Margit. On top of that, you should be putting something into VIG. Your 35 points in INT won't do anything if you die in 1 hit or stagger.

I eventually did a couple dungeons and got to a point where I was doing better damage but I wouldn’t say like the best damage. However because of the hours of training I had in dodging a lot of his attacks I was just barely able to beat him

Despite having my own sets of trouble with this game, I think the biggest “difficulty hurdle,” for people to get over in this game is practicing patience. Recent games and the landscape of online gaming as a whole has somewhat conditioned the average player into reaction time and aggression. But, while playing mostly shooter games that maintain distance and work completely differently..troubles arise. This game got super successful, being played by people who don’t usually play games like this. So, there’s a lot of learning to do. I thought this game was impossible and rage quit multiple times, until I really sat down with the leveling system and paid attention to what I was equipping and watching my enemy patterns. There’s challenges but I usually overcome bosses in one attempt, even if it takes a while. Patience, mfs, have patience.

I find this funny, because I've found this game punishes me when I try to play patiently (Not counting the panic. Lol) and rewards me for getting up close and personal. Margit is hard because the game intends you to explore Limgrave first. Everything there is piss easy in comparison, as the zone is the true teacher. Margit is the test to what you've learned in Limgrave. Comparing him to first bosses in previous games is ludicrous, because they are not comparable. For all previous games, the first test bosses are early in a linear path. They assume you don't know much and don't have levels or good equipment. Most importantly, he teaches you to parry. He has a lot of attacks that are super punishable by parrying.

(CB is a weapon with very similar mechanic to parrying) he tried to kill the boss for like 1-2h normal way and then just used summons to cheese it. it would be better intro boss if it would teach you to just attack when they are doing long hold attacks and that healing near the bosses will instantly trigger their chase attacks. giving him all of this seems like too much

The grace points are the game telling you where to go, the boss's damage dealt:damage received ratio is the indicator of whether or not you have to go explore to beat it. So I don't really agree with that last statement at all. I think the general pattern of the game is follow the grace and main paths until you hit a wall of a boss too strong for you, then you explore the surrounding area which offers upgrades, armaments and levels. In that sense the game is actually quite linear, if you go over kill and start exploring outwidth the region, you end up overlevelling. Limgrave for Margit, Weeping Penisula for Godrick etc.

I've never gotten the sense that hes "really good" at killing you. Margit is one of my favorite bosses both pre and post patch. His fights are fun as hell and honestly if he spanks you well...maybe trying be strategic? I mean most of his moves are telegraphed well ahead (fuck those light daggers they are insanely fast.) Margit is the best boss tutorial I've seen in a long time.

@@MyouKyuubi you make good points but you dont have to be that harsh to the poor guy lul^^ then again he was kind of asking for it i guess. Also: 1. Yeah true. 2. You could just play offline if you dont like the online compnents anyways (thats what i always do because i feel like the part of the games (especially PVP) is just a mistake from the getgo that the devs refuse to let go of). But just as general info, the hacker invasions where a pretty unique Dark Souls 3 Problem and as far as i have heard Elden Ring is much safer in that regard, at least so far. But a pretty valid reason not to play it i guess. Even tho if you like the Soulsgames and are average at them like me i think you would really enjoy this one too. Has its lows but the highs are very high^^

I think he’s a great boss one of my favorite in souls, he really was a challenge and he managed to completely flip everything that everyone had learn from former bosses upside down. I recently started my second play through and I’m embarrassed to say that he took me around a hour to beat even though I knew his move set. He’s a great boss and he really set the tone for what eldin ring is for the rest of the game.

I fought Margit at lvl 15 and he stomped me. I adventured some, learned some spells at the rountable, and went back at lvl 20. Still took some deaths to learn his openings, but my +3 Uchigatana, Wolf Summon, and fire sling did the trick.

Elden ring is my first ever souls game. I did the rat boss in the wolf cave, then pretty much beelined to margit. And yeah i had some issues and my friends gave me some advice (getting the jelly summon to work). But I did it in about 10 attempts, improving each time. But now I’m a little underleveled in the stormveil castle so I’m exploring other areas of the map for upgrades. Did the human lion thing on the weeping peninsula, that was a bit tougher for me. Now I’ve found 2 evergaols that I’ve been working on.

A thing that I just keep in mind whenever playing Elton ring is the wind-ups from any attack are a little slower and the actual attacks in comparison to Dark Souls 3 but they have more precision so Panic rolling is less viable and in some situations impossible so I've developed the habit of rolling as soon as I see the actual weapon or attack coming at my character

I didn’t go straight to Margit. I knew the golden lines or the “guidances of grace” were there but I didn’t trust it to point me towards the easiest bosses first as soon as I encountered the Tree Sentry. So I explored the map right away. Caelid naturally made me feel like I was in over my head, so I returned to first area and noticed a secondary guidance of grace pointing me south, so I followed that. In the end I completed quite a lot of the introductory area before I rechallenged the sentry and then continued on my path. I knew I could just go around the sentry, but I wanted to defeat it before continuing the golden path. So my detour started good and early. Once I challenged Margit, he was a bit of challenge I suppose, but I had a few wolves helping me out and a sorcerer drawing aggro away. And I learned quickly that one of the best tools against Margit is to stand uphill and jump over his sweeping attacks and quickly punish. He’s quite susceptible to getting stunned and you get an opening then for big damage. Having some spells doesn’t hurt either. Going full melee feels like a poor choice this time around with so many mage options out there and bows and such. People call magic “overpowered”, but there are tools in the game to punish full magic users, strength builds just have to adapt to using something other than pure melee or assign the right ashes to their weapons.
