I have the white Carinas, same stands but black and sand filled natch. I love my Elac Carinas so concur all that you mention. My comment concerns decoupling and I have Sonic Design between speaker and stand and to my utter amazement there is absolutely no vibration travelling down to the floor and for the price of less than 30 euros they come highly recommended and are worth a try. Thank you for an personal entertaining home review, made me smile

Thank you for this review and this is the perfect time for me as I have recently purchased these speakers. I hooked them up with Audiolab 6000A (I feel like I need a higher power amp) and they sound like covered in a veil. Is it supposed like this? I wonder if I use a different amp, they could be more open? What amp are you using?

Hi, How do the carina's compare to the uni-fi 62 in terms of listening fatigue in terms of treble and upper mids? Witch one of the 2 is smoother and more easy on the ear?

I wouldn’t put one over the other when it comes to listening fatigue. Both are really easy on the ear. The main difference in my book is that the Carina is a bit snappier and the Uni-Fi has a bit better holographic imaging

I wish you can play some song demos even though its not ideal but I have a decent audiophile setup on my PC. . I just wanted to hear them. Thanks.

You stated the Carinas really aren't holographic but do they present a flat soundstage or is there some depth? I tried a Quad S2 which was highly resolving and detailed, more so than my Focal 807Ws but the Quads' soundstage was 2D flat and not very energetic, so with music I found them quite boring. The 807Ws should be very close to the Arias with a sharper upper mid and highs. The Poron tweeter in the Aria I found too smoothed over. Also, hard to beat the W sandwich driver. I do know how a good AMT tweeter sounds, it adds a more life like quality to the human voice. The Elac would be more laid back in comparison to the 807W but hopefully not a strictly 2-D soundstage. The 807W has some depth and during some passages, instruments can appear to my side or somewhere between the speakers and my listening position...that's difficult to let go of. Any thoughts appreciated.

If I did so I was wrong. The Carinas are superb in every way including the width and depth of the soundstage (of course depending on the amp) Edit: not as holographic as good pointsource (coaxial design) speaker but that’s an unfair comparison when it comes to holographic imaging because that is something good coaxial designs excel at. The Carina is a fine sounding classic two way in every regard. The better the amp the better the Carina. That’s not the case for every speaker out there e. g. the Kenwood LS-K711

Trying to assess if it could be a good candidate to replace what I have now only for the reason I want to go smaller and it seems to work nearfield or a bit further away. I would be using a small Keces E40 which looks unimpressive in watts but it has current capability. Wish I could demo it. I think the lows and mids would be fine but don't know how much of the highs I might lose in comparison to Focal.

Hi I have the carina and am thinking about getting a vela. Is it worth the upgrade? I mainly listen to slow song with a lot of highs, but I also like the punchy/clean bass. Do you think vela has a stronger bass than carina?

A little bit. Keep in mind that the Carina sounds a little bit more neutral in tone. I liked that a lot about the Carina. Maybe try the Floorstander

The better the amp, the better the Carina. With matching amps I would prefer the Carina since it is highly refined/balanced. Both are very transparent. The Carina sounds smoother overall and the KinPlay sound snappier.

Definitely your answer speaks of a great achievement of Totem Kin Play acoustics, since some of the superiority of the Elac you are talking about is achieved by using a high-quality amplifier, which makes this setup twice as expensive as active Kin Play shelves!)

The KinPlay need 15-20 minutes to warm up each time I use them. The they sound balanced and dynamic. So never judge these by the first five songs. I don’t mean burn in I mean warm up which is true for a lot of amps in my past experience.

Thank you for this vedio.Do you still recommend carina these day? I want to buy my first speakers, and it is difficult to choose between carina 243.4 and new Solano 283. Carina is over $1500 and Vela needs double in my area... I seen some reviews say that solano and vela have very similar sounds.That’s why solano is in my option.

I guess I will try a lot of speakers in my lifetime but if I had to keep these I would be happy. I would upgrade my amp and enjoy the Carinas even more

For prestige reasons I would pick the Vela. Sound alone, both are differently great. Both have a different tonality. The Vela sounds sweeter, the Carina more natural and more neutral. Both sound crisp and transparent. Both work with all kinds of genres. Given a good amp I could live with both and not missing anything

Have you had chance to compare it with the Vela BS403?

Velas are very coloured speakers...Carinas are neutral!

Have you tried the Triangle Gaia EZ? I would like to see what you think about them. For me they are one of the better options in the 1000-2000 Euro price class (compact floorstanders)

Hello there enjoyed your video! Could you please advise on the difference and how much better are these in comparison to the Uni R Floor Standers 52? Secondly how much they are worth when comparing to Vela? These are quite a bit dearer than UniFidfr52 or Bookshelves. Regards n Appreciations

I can only compare the bookshelf Carina to the bookshelf Unifi. Both are designed by Andrew Jones so both have a natural/organic sounding midrange. The Carina is more transparent and crisper. Holographic imaging is better with the Unifi due to its concentric tweeter/mid driver array. Treble is sweeter with the Carina imo. The Unifi has more bass in quantity so the floorstander should have even more. When it comes to bass quality both are fine. All in all both sound different due to their different designs and materials

@@DigitalPhilosophers if I decide to buy spend twice the price of unifi and go ahead with Carina will that be a good decision leave the different sound signature thing aside. Will carina be a better choice against MOnitor Audio Silver 7g 500, Martin Logan xti40 etc. As long as I get more speaker out of my investment I’m happy to spend on Carina. There are not many reviews of Carina’s whereas Unifi is loaded with reviews. I’m building the system with Marantz 8015 and would be using the dedicated room for both music n home theatre (mainly the music world be streamed through KZread and other apps. Since I have not listened to many speakers anything which has clarity, detailing, openness, depth n imaging would serve me as I’m the first timer slash last timer 😜 have a great day ☮️

Wie würdest du sie gegen die Monitor Audio Bronze sehen? Hatte schon Klipsch rp-500m ii und 6000f ii die klangen mir einfach zu hell. Allerdings haben sie sehr viel spaß im Filmbetrieb gemacht. Ich hab etwas angeht dass die carina vielleicht zu zurückhaltend ist für Film. Dynamik ist sehr wichtig für Filmbetrieb. Da soll die Monitor audio bronze besser sein Allerdings soll sie auch wieder heller klingen und weniger natural. Das klingt bei deiner Beschreibung der Carinas mehr danach was mir gefällt vom Klang.

I rate these Carinas higher than the RP600M when listening to music. When watching a film both do their job flawlessly. With music the carina takes the lead

I own the non-carina BS243.3 in special paintjob and can compare them to Pfleid PP8.

Fortunately there is no „better“🤩 That’s a compliment for both speakers. If you want a bit more natural/organic and lean back sound it’s the Carina. If you want more open/lively sound it is Tannoy.
