El Molo, Kenya: Ilate (the Palm Tree)

Ilate is filmed and produced by the Indigenous El Molo people who inhabit the shores of Lake Turkana in Kenya, also known as the Cradle of Mankind. Ilate is the word for the Palm tree, and this piece of participatory video explores the significance of the palm in El Molo culture.
The El Molo language is critically endangered. We support Indigenous peoples to preserve their traditional knowledge, to strengthen inter-generational transmission and to celebrate these living cultures.
Insightshare specialises in the use of Participatory Video as a revolutionary tool for change, supporting communities with the tools and a framework to effectively platform their resistance to the issues affecting the community and land.
