El Chalten NOT so SECRET Waterfall
One of the most iconic images of Cerro Fitz Roy is taken at a location affectionately known as the Secret Waterfall. It's obviously not so secret any more and in my opinion that is totally fine as long as the location is treated with continued respect and maybe managed a bit better by the APN.
In this video we dive into the Secret Waterfall location and one added bonus location on the way back down. I hope you like the video!

The Patagonia series continues next week with our first video from Torres del Paine. See you there!

Wow this was just beautiful to watch Greg. Thank you for sharing it with us.
Great video as usual Greg! That music at the middle of the video is amazing, suits the vibe perfectly.
Reallty appreciate the map/info on the region, thats something that makes your content much more valuable than other creators in this space.

Muy hermoso trabajo, gracias. Saludos desde Buenos aires
The reflection photo came out really well, I really like the unique composition! 👌
Some really good images!
Lovely video and images. I love that image of Mount Fitzroy and the reflection. Martin and I were there in 2015 and did the entire hike from top to bottom. But we missed this waterfall. We did some cascades just off the main trail, but the weather was miserable with rain and hail. By the way, I do see our friend Ike in a couple of shots.
Greg, beautiful!! The fitz roy reflexion is insane!!

That image of the reeds and Fitz Roy was stunning Greg. Always enjoy seeing your videos from Patagonia and to marvel in its beauty
Well worth the early start, i can see why you would take people to this location, its stunning, love the images of the fall but also the reflection image was really good. Your level of fitness must be a lot better than mine that pack, two tripod and a gimbal , not sure i would have managed all that, great results though mate !

Yeah the gear was a bit overkill on this trip. Two tripods for timelapse/stills & Gimbal for video. I guess the good thing is I do use it all when on location and the pack balances the weight well enough.
Oooops , I was caught in time-lapse. XD

Good stuff, as usual. Great reflecton shot. Rock on! 👍🥂
There is never a dull moment at the Secret Waterfall! The photos came out great! It's too bad that the 2 days of storms cleared out much of the fall foliage!

JC!! One day I'm sure you will, and when you do, be sure to email me for some tips and ideas on where to shoot.
Great vlogs so far and love the photo's especially the golden reeds. I am going to Torres del Paine and possible now to El Chalten next February. Based on your route from El Chalten to Torres del Paine was it hard to get gas as some blogs I have read suggested it could be an issue?
@gregsnell
Жыл бұрын
Yeah you can only get gas at El Chalten and then Esperanza on route towards the border at Cerró Castillo.
Greg - Amazing photos and area. What lenses do you primarily use in Patagonia?

Wide and telephoto. Say 16-35 f2.8 and a 100-400 f4.5-5.6. Anything else is bonus.
Really nice stuff. I am heading down there with a buddy in a week. I'm curious about the location of the little lagoon (with the reflection in the reeds).

It’s nearby on the circle track at Laguna Capri. If you don’t go the way of the lake but the other way you should come across it but keep your eyes open so you don’t miss it. I find it’s best to visit on the way back down.

@@gregsnell Thank you very much! Your video and photos are fabulous.
Correctly set up, the Róde Go 11 has backup audio files in each transmitter ... they have saved me often when operator error ... . just saying ....

Yes shit you're right!! The DJI also records externally of you set it up that way. You just plus it in and download the recorded files. Good idea 🙏👍

i´m going to El Chalten in 17 days time, i need to know where that spot is please !!
I'm just catching up to this video. Doesn't the DJI wireless mic have a recording function in its receiver? You didn't have backup video stored there? Or had you already overwritten it with audio from later videos?
@gregsnell
Жыл бұрын
Hi John!! Yeah it does but you have to set it up to record internally instead of just reading directly to the camera. Not a bad idea, problem is I had turned it off and on during the hike down to save battery and at the very very end simply forgot to turn it back on. A rookie mistake that hopefully won't happen again. That said I've done it in the past with other mics you have to physically turn on before recording. Sometimes you just forget.
According to google maps this is permanently closed!
Sorry, we took all the good fall colours before you got there :)
