Ejets Jetfan Pro 120mm EDF thrust test (with and without thrust ring)

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Thrust test on the Ejets Jetfan Pro 120mm EDF.
Motor - HET 800-68-685
ESC - Hobbywing 200 amp
Battery - 2 x Genace 6s 5500mah 60C
Radio - Futaba 16IZ with Hobbywing telemetry
Test Stand - JP Hobby EDF Test Stand
First test without the thrust ring was disappointing to say the least. Giving only about 9 pounds of thrust max and leveling off around 8.6 pounds. Experienced around 87 amps.
Second test with the thrust ring install and recharging the batteries was extremely surprising to me. I did not expect that big of a difference in thrust. About 19.2 pounds of thrust initially and leveling off around 18.6 pounds. Experienced around 107 amps at full thrust.
I am extremely pleased with the thrust output. The first plane with will be installed in is around 17-17.5 pounds. So plenty of power.

Nice, lot of folks dont realise the intake ring makes a lot of difference in thrust numbers. thanks for this test

question how did you get the telemetry rpm to read out correctly on your 16 Iz?? for some reason mine only reads three decimals.

I am not sure. I don't think it's reading correctly though. It's showing about half of the calculated value. I think there was a setting in the telemetry unit. If I remember right if you hook the program box to just the telemetry unit there are some setting in there. Otherwise select the rpm in the radio telemetry and set the poles and gear ratio.

@@pilot482 so I'm running a large OutRunner motor which is a 28 Pole on 14 cells in a 35% extra 300, and the tachometer on the radio only shows 642 which I assume is 6,420 rpm ,I talked with Futaba technicians Ian and Tony & said to update radio but my radio is brand new just bought it 2 months ago and I have a 14 SG that does not have this problem but yes you do have to set the radioTelemetry RPM to the correct number of poles of the motor to get the correct RPM reading that I did , but it's not showing the correct amount of numbers on the display.. .

Nice tests! Did you run any tests to monitorize the temperature of the electric motor, for example, to know how much time is it capable of performing at maximum power without reaching the limit temperature? I think this could be quite interesting to know, and also for the maximum time allowed for lower power levels

I didn't do any test like that. Didn't think of doing that. It really doesn't get that hot even after a complete flight. Don't think temperature would ever be an issue on this set up.

@@pilot482 How long are usually the flights you performe, and at which power level? I have been warned that a typical problem that these ducted fans have is the temperature management, specially when performing at high power levels continuously

Flights are 3:30 on 5600mah packs. Mixed power setting. I sometimes run it fast because it a lot of fun to fly the jet it's in fast. It's never hot when I land. Just warm. Also on all my higher powered fan I use heat sinks which helps a lot. They sit directly in the air flow and are very effective.

@@pilot482 Nice to hear. I wanted to do some tests with some EDFs but for another application, which I need to be able to give full power to the motors during 15 minutes, and I assume that this is not possible with regular Heat sinks, right?

Hello mate, I was looking for information about this fan and I just came across this video. Do you have more information about the fan's thrust at different velocities? Actually, any data regarding thrust/pressure jump would be highly useful to see if it would fit in my case. I would be highly interested, as the manufacturer does not provide any information. Thanks!

Sorry. I didn't think about testing for that. I did move the throttle to about half and go around 8 pounds with a much lower amp draw on the ESC. But I don't have any more than that.

So if I understand correctly, you went from 9kg to 18kg thrust? Just because of the added ring? I know it increases the efficiency, but I didn’t think it was 100% more effective… Great video btw

Yes. I knew the ring was effective but I was shocked by how much. Proper intake ducting is extremely important whether it's a inlet ring or a full ducted intake.

NO, you will not double your thrust with a ring, the first test was in kg and the second was in lbs. He just doesn't know it. 9kg is roughly 18lbs.
