Einstein in Princeton

Albert Einstein (1879-1955) is the world's most famous theoretical physicist. He received the Nobel Prize for Physics in 1921. When Hitler came to power in 1933, Einstein was visiting the United States; he decided not to return to Germany. He settled in Princeton, New Jersey, becoming an American citizen in 1940. Einstein was a familiar figure about town on his bicycle. He embraced many causes, including nuclear disarmament and civil rights. He was affiliated with the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton until his death.
"It Happened Here: New Jersey" is a production of Kean University, in partnership with the New Jersey Historical Commission. The series is narrated by Willie Geist. PCK Media is serving as producer of the series. For more information about this and other activities planned for New Jersey's 350th Anniversary, visit www.officialnj350.com.

Einstein was teaching at Princeton. My father and his colleagues were all doing medical residencies in NewJersey. They were all from different countries. They were all admirers of Einstein and so wanted to meet him. They took a chance by disturbing him while he was going home during the lunch hour.

Speaking of humanity, Princeton, and Marian Anderson being refused a room at a local inn. Princeton was and still is to some extent a very Catholic town, with some 30 Catholic churches. The Catholic Church was a very racist and an ultra anti-Semitic religious institution. After he moved to Princeton, Einstein was never invited to teach or lecture at the Princeton University, a university that is closely associated with the Catholic Church and also with Opus Dei. To this day, there is not a single statue of him in town, and they could not put together a museum for one of the most brilliant humans that ever graced our planet with his presence. They apparently could not forgive him for being Jewish, and for keeping a very close contact with the African American community.

@@preoccupied4800 There is, indeed, a puny sculpture of Einstein, a head on a stick, next to Borough Hall. It was only placed there in 2005, 50 years after his passing. The sculpture was donated by the artist, the town did not pay a penny for it, and it is ugly, as ugly as the one in Washington, DC. The pedestal was raised with money from the Albert Einstein Fund. Again, not a penny from the town. The only thing the town pays for is maintenance, which is close to zero. As for him lecturing at Princeton, he was invited there when he was visiting America earlier in his life, in 1921, way before he moved to America. Never after that, and certainly not when he was living in Princeton. Do you think this may have had something to do with him rejecting openly the personal God of religion and adopting Spinoza's explanation for God? Or with the fact that he was a Jew and that the Catholic Church the Princeton University was closely related to was walking hand in hand with the Third Reich? People forget how pro-Nazi and anti-Semitic was a large part of America after Hitler came to power, which was when Einstein moved to America to escape persecution in Germany. Regarding the Institute of Advanced Study, this organization was in no way associated with Princeton University. Princeton U was and still is a lot closer to Opus Dei and to the Catholic Church. How about the Aquinas Institute - Princeton University Catholic Campus Ministry. Their declared mission is "encountering Christ." Really? Princeton was supposed to be a bastion of learning, not indoctrinating the young with religious irrational.

I was born in Trenton, NJ and then moved to Princeton, NJ in my late 20's...great place to live except for the police...they're VERY STRICT!!! No Lie, I got pulled over once for doing 27 MPH in a 25 MPH zone!! They let me go with a warning but come on, that was very unnecessary!!

They need to give more notoriety to all the white people that were absolutely exceptional in fighting for justice. All the less famous ones that took part in the freedom riders and Mississippi voting registrations. In a time where most white people were pretty much villians against fair treatment. Many stood apart and sacrificed everything despite the clear risk and danger. My respect for this man just grew immensely

We don't know! Will humanity be around in a million years? You guys think we'll forget everything just because its a long time away, which is reasonable, but note that we'd know who created the wheel and who discovered fire if they had the innovations of today. Maybe, maybe not

He got Nobel prize for Physics thanks to his wife Mileva Maric who was brilliant in math and helped him in the project of relativity . They both worked at the university in Switzerland and worked together , he used her to the max and when they moved to USA he divorced wife Mileva and left her with two children alone. Eventually he married again the first cousin from his mother side . P.S. Nikola Tesla gave to the mankind a lot and he was the greatest genius of all time.
