감독: 정다운 JUNG Dawoon
시놉시스: 〈이타미 준의 바다〉로 건축 다큐의 관심을 한껏 끌어 올렸던 정다운 감독은 유독 건축물에 관심이 많다. 파주 출판 단지 이야기도 그렇고 이번 EIDF2023 개막작으로 선보이는 이 작품은 평생을 여성 조경가로 살아온 정영선 선생의 작업 세계를 소박하게 조망한다. 인천공항, 예술의 전당 그리고 최근 명소로 유명한 디올 성수 등을 설계한 극한직업 여성 조경가의 삶을 현재의 시점으로 담담하게 그렸다. 영화 내내 우리가 그동안 지나쳤던 다양한 공간에 주인공의 자연주의적 정원 설계의 철학들이 곳곳에 베어져 있음을 알게 된다. 한껏 화장 해서 인위적으로 꾸민 얼굴이 아닌 민낯으로 대할수 있는 사람과 자연을 이어주는 그런 정원 공간을 만들려 노력했던 주인공의 삶을 말이다. 그래서인지 영화가 다소 심심하게 느껴질지 모르겠으나 관객들은 한국에서 가장 유명한 조경가의 일상과 중간중간 등장 하는 한국에서 가장 유명한 정원 명소들을 감상할 수 있는 즐거움도 주어진다.
Director Jung Dawoon, who has drawn attention to architectural documentaries
with her The Sea of Itami Jun , shows a particular interest in architecture. So is the case in the story of the Paju Publishing Complex, as well asPoetry on Land, which will be screened as the opening film for EIDF2023, that plainly portrays the work environment of Jeong Yeong Seon, who has lived as a female landscape architect her whole life. She has designed the Incheon International Airport, the Seoul Arts Center, and the Dior Seongsu, recently known as one of the famous attractions. The film calmly depicts her extreme career as a female landscape architect from the present point of view. Throughout the film, we learn that her nature-driven philosophy in designing gardens is found everywhere where we would normally simply pass by. We can feel her effort in making spaces connect people with nature, in a natural way, rather than an artificial way. Consequently the film may feel a bit boring, but the audiences can appreciate the daily life of one of the most famous landscape architects and appreciate some of the most famous gardens in Korea.
