Egyptian Desserts on the Streets of Cairo | Ramadan 2024 | الحلويات المصرية في رمضان

Delicious desserts during Ramadan! Egypt has many famous sweets, but is there anything special they eat during this month? Take a motorbike ride with me around Cairo as I stop by several pastry shops and show you a variety of tasty Egyptian desserts.
Want to donate to the channel? You can buy me a shawarma! 😂 But really, I just found out this website "buy me a coffee" exists and created an account, because, well, why not? I really just appreciate your support by watching my videos and I'm not asking you to donate, but, if you feel like it, now there's a place you can. Donations will probably just go to me making more street food videos. Here's the link: www.buymeacoffee.com/gventures
Welcome to the channel! My name's Gisselle, I'm a budget traveler and have been to 6 out of the 7 continents, visiting 20+ countries, living for some time in Sydney, Australia as well as in Saigon, Vietnam. I am currently based in Cairo, Egypt and exploring all this beautiful country has to offer, while visiting nearby countries as well. I am a lover of language and a culturally curious lady just making my way through life one day at a time. I live to learn, I love to travel and explore, try new things and meet interesting people anywhere and everywhere in the world. Come along with me as I solo travel the globe and discover fascinating new places, try delicious local food, meet lovely people, and share a moment in time on this beautiful planet, our Earth.

    There is nothing better than finding and eating from a bakery that does these fresh cakes, sweets and patteseries then finding a cafe to drink black tea and going for a 1 hour walk to explore the area to work it all off! Great times in Egypt ❤

    Thank you for the video. I have a sweet tooth and loved it. It also increases my seduction with chaos of Cairo. During my visit to Cairo last year, the taxi driver described "El Abd Patisserie" as "best of the best" and drove me there to purchase Egyptan cakes for my family. I noticed that their cakes are not as sweet as Greek or Turkish, but thier taste is awsome.

    I've never been to Greece, but I know Turkish desserts are also very sweet, I had a few when I was in Istanbul summer of 2022. For me, Egyptian desserts are also very sweet, they use so much syrup, so it's necessary to have water 😅

    Thank you, I appreciate your support! 🥰 I haven't been to the new administrative capital, and to be honest, I really have no desire to 😅 It's a long drive from where I live, so filming there would mean I will have to take an entire day off of work to go out there and record. However, although I have little interest in going there, I do still plan to at some point, just to briefly show it. But I have no immediate plans to do that, it might be a while before I make it out there on my bike.

    How you drive in that mayhem is beyond me. Thank you for another wonderful video of the sights and sounds of Cairo. The last Friday of April is (Coptic) Orthodox Good Friday. Is it possible to give us a view of the festivities in Coptic Cairo from your perspective? Also, I have noticed a few paramilitary units and heavy trucks on the streets of Cairo in your video. Any idea what is going on? Last time I saw the military on the streets of Cairo was on a visit in 1972.

    When was the last time you were in Cairo? The military presence has always been like this since I arrived 2.5 years ago. I have been talking to my friend who is a Copt about making a video touching on some Coptic stuff, thankfully Coptic Easter and all that isn't happening till May 5th, so I have some time to plan it out. No guarantees, but it's already been an idea of mine to film a video about that, so if all goes well, I will be 😊

    @@Gventures thanks, I stand corrected. I don’t know why I thought Good Friday was the last Friday in April. I guess I was misinformed. Friday May 3 is the correct date. I was in Cairo last in February of 2010 & I stayed in Heliopolis, only making trips by taxi into Shoubra, Giza and Garden City. I recall a large police presence and police providing security at my hotel- The Fairmont and the Egyptian museum. The Fairmont had lots of plain clothes police because of the large number of foreign diplomats staying there. In fact, the only military personnel- in uniform- I saw were Air Force officers coming out of Almaze Airbase in Roxy. Anyway, I am looking forward to your next video next Sunday. Take care and be safe.

  • @Gventures

    @Gventures

    2 ай бұрын

    You can extend your visa once inside of Egypt if you want to stay more than 30 consecutive days within the country. Not sure how long you are planning to stay in Egypt, but there is also a 14 day "grace period" which means technically you can stay inside of Egypt for 45 days without a fine. However, if you get a SIM card here, it will stop working once your visa expires (so after 30 days), unless you extend your visa. Also bring your passport to the phone store if you are planning to get a local SIM card here, because they will ask for it when purchasing a SIM card. I have made several videos about how to extend your visa, they are a bit outdated now, but I will leave the link here so you can at least see the location for the visa extension office in Cairo and get an idea of how the process works. I'm so stressed. We're coming to egypt in a few months and we domt know if we should bring all the USD cash and exchange it as we go, or just bring a debit card and withdraw in local. What do you recommend?

  • @Gventures

    @Gventures

    2 ай бұрын

    Bring both. You will need your debit card to pay for ancient sites, many ancient sites only accept card now. Also, for large purchases and paying for hotels and such, it is easier to just pay with a card. Cash (exchanging USD to EGP) is going to be useful for paying for things like taxis, souvenirs, shopping in markets, restaurants and tipping. Also, you can only withdraw around 3,000-4,000 EGP from an ATM at a time (although you can make several transactions), and sometimes the ATM is out of cash or isn't working, so it's good to have cash on hand.

    2 ай бұрын

    @@coinbounty3347 I'm sure it's fine..? I never stay in hotels and of course I can't guarantee anything, but I don't see any problems with that. You could also just buy a travel lock for your suitcase and keep it in your luggage locked when you leave your hotel. I wouldn't worry about it too much, personally. I stay in shared dorms in hostels and have kept fairly large sums of money in my backpack, simply locked up with a travel lock, or in the little lockers they give to people in hostel dorms, and I've never had a problem in Egypt with that.

    Sorry, but no. Sometimes I make short videos, and sometimes they are long, it depends on the content and what I find appropriate to keep in that particular video. You're the only person who has complained about it, and according to my KZread stats, people seem to enjoy the longer videos, as more people watch it than the shorter videos. I also make videos because I enjoy it, not solely for the views, so I make content I like, and sometimes that means longer videos because I show the drive, the streets, etc. Sorry, maybe I'll lose you as a viewer by not conceding to your request, but if I listened to every request from every single viewer, I would never make a video because I would never be able to decide on what to do. Some people ask for longer videos, and some people (like yourself) ask for shorter. Can't please everyone 💁‍♀️

But I guess she is also adventurous, she was traveling around the world solo and was in Kenya staying with the Maasai Tribe before arriving to Egypt. Everyone has different preferences, and that's okay, maybe Egypt (or at least Cairo) just isn't your thing. Lots of people that are looking for a relaxing vacation just go to the Red Sea and avoid Cairo. Anyway, if Egypt isn't for you, there are plenty of other places around the world that may better suite you. Safe and happy travels!
