The best graphics I have ever seen on an Atari 2600! Always loved Mermaid's work, more than pleased too see her talent on the 2600! And the final music is maybe one of the best I've ever heard on this platform.

That's amazing.. Does that fit on a 4K cartridge?

No, it's far too big for a 4K cart - all those high resolution pictures combined take more than 4K, I believe.

Each 48 pixel-wide spritebased picture takes almost 1800 bytes, so no, unfortunately this would be impossible to fit into a 4kb cart.

Still impressive for a console with only 128 bytes of ram

Quite impressive for a relatively simple system. The one strength the 2600 has compared to most of the 8bit generation is its fairly expansive color palette, which this uses to great effect.

Good point, yep. Such a weird advantage to keep through basically the entire 8-bit console history.

Imagine plunking this down in front of folks in the late 70s. Heads would have exploded.

from a coding point of view - on a modern computer; this looks rather basic, but when you see that it's meant to run on a 2600 ... that's something else entirely.

The one graphical advantage over the NES that the Atari 2600 has is that it can produce better gradient effects

Reading up on the 2600. And I knew Jay must have had a hand in things. "A second prototype was completed by March 1976 with the help of Jay Miner, who created a chip called the Television Interface Adaptor (TIA) to send graphics and audio to a television". He was a computer/electronics visionary. Rest his soul.

Indeed! He helped bring the early Ataris AND the Amiga to life. He was especially great at finding ways to squeeze every single possibility out of silicon back when processors were super slow silicon was super expensive.

Yeah it's a demoscene demo. The "scene" is computer art subculture of people who enjoy making technical and artistic showpieces on computer or video game hardware new and old :)

I don't understand what this is...is this just a tech demo? Have you guys ever viewed the Sega Master System tech demo- Bad Apple? I can't believe that is actually possible on a Sega Master System and I would love to see a version of that for the Genesis taking advantage of both of its processors' (68K Motorola and Zilog Z-80).
