    Thanks for the video! We watched it while being stuck in Chipley, FL. Our T1N blew black smoke on the way to Texas, from Daytona. Some guy told us we were blowing black smoke, checked it out at an ORielly and EGR valve. Ugh! With the grace of God he got it off, cleaned it and we are waiting overnight for the gasket to arrive. Love my van buuut… sometimes I have thoughts of upgrading. We appreciate your videos, will donate

    Phew, mine slipped right out! (I was dreading that struggle after watching your video, but looks like the last person must’ve used anti-seize.) Cleaned it up, added a bit more anti-seize, and it’s working lovely… Turns out my limp mode was due to a tear in the intercoolant turbo hose though, not the EGR valve. But not complaining about a clean EGR valve!

    From what I am told, if you crack it open you have little chance of getting it back together & working properly. The security screws are security screws for a reason, so I would clean as best I can without removing those.

    at 182K miles I was noticing in colder weather that going up a slight rise I was getting a little rolling hill throttle feed; so thought it was time to clean the EGR. My EGR with hose and 3 bolts removed came out like a 350 chev distributor with very little pull; just a little twisting. The three blade prop was a little lazy in returning to home with a little clink sound. Sprayed the prop with brake cleaner while holding the prop side close to the earth and some paper towels to collect the buildup and all was good. Now runs like it did when new with the throttle dropping rpm at low speeds very quickly.

    I had a hard time removing the EGR valve from my '06 2500. In fact, I broke off a piece of the part the coolant hose attaches to. I finally did get it off, cleaned it up, it was still not as snappy the one in your video but it'll do for now given I have no major issues.

  • @FloridaVanMan

    @FloridaVanMan

    2 жыл бұрын

    Overheating is usually what causes EGR failure in my experience. When the aux coolant pump doesn't work or the van is pulling too much load, too fast, overheated EGR will cause limp mode and kill the EGR. So be careful with heat if you are just cleaning, not replacing the unit.

    Searching details here ! When cleaning my EGR valve, I saw that the port going to the intake (after egr valve) had wet walls ! Is it normal or my egr valve is leaking coolant ?

  • @FloridaVanMan

    @FloridaVanMan

    3 жыл бұрын

    No. It is possible your EGR gasket was leaking coolant, but since you had the EGR out for cleaning I assume you sealed that gasket when putting it back. It is likely the intake was wet from oil vapor or condensation also. Humid mid-day air pulled through a cold morning intercooler will condensate a bit.

    My EGR valve wasn't fully closing. I cleaned it up with WD-40 and it looked like new. It fully closes now, but it doesn't make that snap sound. The mechanical portion makes the proper snap sound with the electric motor removed. With the motor attached, it doesn't make the snap sound. I'd like to find out why the motor is slowing down the mechanical portion. I re-assembled the EGR valve and the vehicle seems to run fine.

  • @FloridaVanMan

    @FloridaVanMan

    2 жыл бұрын

    When the motors get bad they don't snap back. If the van is running fine, run it! But don't be surprised when the EGR starts showing codes and putting you in limp mode. When it finally gives up you won't be stuck on the side of the road and since it was out recently replacing it won't be a big deal. So run it and get every mile out of it that you can. It might last thousands of miles more.

I have used that chemical for removing paint, before I knew it was in found in carb cleaner. That little clue would have been useful stopping bicycles in my teenage years. @@amybass4005 That's not uncommon. When the glow plugs fail they either blow open circuit or short circuit. If they go short circuit they will blow the internal fuse in the module. No. The van monitors air flow and will trigger codes when expectations are not met. There is a popular "resistor hack" that does not actually work. If the resistor doesn't kick codes your van already wasn't commanding the EGR to open. The resistor only mimics a closed EGR. There are other "tunes" available that are illegal, despite any loopholes you may have heard of. EPA is cracking down on these tune companies and a guy 8 blocks from me settled with the EPA for $850,000 fines. The punishment if prosecuted for deleting your EGR is greater than possession of cocaine and brings a felony record. It is illegal in all 50 states, all of Canada and the UK.

  • @FloridaVanMan

    @FloridaVanMan

    Жыл бұрын

    That is controversial and highly debated. If your van is a European model it might have never had one, as they weren't mandated until a few years later. Generally, those who feel the government is here to control us will swear they get more power and 5mph better fuel economy with the EGR deleted. That would be a 25% increase from 20mpg, and science does not support those claims. Those who feel government is a necessary part of civilization will point out deleted EGR will fail annual inspections in most states and Canadian provinces, be unregisterable to any buyer in those areas and punishment for violating Federal EPA regulations is greater than possession of cocaine. A guy 8 blocks from my home was fined $850,000 a few years ago for selling "EGR delete hardware & software" online.

    The iCarsoft MBII does have live-data for engine monitoring, but it is not a pleasant graphical display. More like a spreadsheet with small pages of specific data points. My official answer is: Yes, there is a chart detailing bolt size to torque setting. I often refer to downloaded repair manuals for torque settings of the specific area I am working. But honestly, I often tighten less critical bolts with about as much force as used to take it out, guessing. That has bit me in the tail many times and we have a video showing repair of the threads of the EGR mounting. I also have a favorite product specific for injector hold-down bolts. It is a *favorite because I have needed it more times than I'm willing to admit, even after trying things that didn't work like Heli-coil. lol

    EGR valve mystery… please advise. I recently bought a 2005 dodge sprinter T1N van. It seems to run OK and have decent power, but out of curiosity, I decided to clean the EGR valve like you show in your videos. Sure enough it was so dirty and sooted up the blades would not turn at all so I cleaned them really well with gasoline. I even took the valve assembly apart into two large pieces and cleaned inside really well and got the blades turning freely and snapping back like you show in your videos. I put it back together and took it for a test drive and the van ran much worse, almost like limp mode as you call it. I pulled over to the side of the road and unplugged the wiring to the EGR just to see what that would do and to my surprise the van ran like a bat out of hell..better than ever. I’m really baffled. Have any ideas what’s going on? Your thoughts would be greatly appreciated.😅

  • @FloridaVanMan

    @FloridaVanMan

    Once you took apart the two halves of the EGR it was done. They have wound springs and electrical contacts inside that we cannot rewind & connect without very special tools. The security screws should never be removed. If your van doesn't go into limp mode with the EGR unplugged it is either modified (EGR deleted) or the intake adaptive settings are corrupted and no longer adapting. A code reader like we have linked on our products page will read the live data where we can see if the EGR is being commanded by the van. Looking at the EGR live data will help determine if your van is having an issue or been illegally modified by deleting emissions equipment.

    Follow up to my EGR valve mystery problem, I bought a new EGR valve and installed it, and the van runs excellent now, almost like a different vehicle. What a pleasant surprise and the best part is the transmission is shifting much more often now like it should. I don’t have to manually shift it so much anymore for hills so my question for you is what is the connection between the EGR valve and the transmission??

  • @FloridaVanMan

    @FloridaVanMan

    Жыл бұрын

    @@kirbymoore492 There is no direct link to the EGR but the van shifts based on how well the engine is running. With the EGR sticking open a little the van realizes the limited power it has available by constantly measuring "load". It will adjust the shift times to work with the available power. When power is reduced it will shift later.

    No. EGR is kinda' a headache, but deleting it with a tune is just trading one headache for another. Dealerships will not be able to properly diagnose issues. The owner swears the tune is perfect and van runs great but can't get over 60mph. It is not a FedEx van... He has been driving it stuck in limp mode for the past 2 years. You did all the wrong stuff removing that EGR valve. I have broken intake manifolds, damaged sealing surfaces, and broken the valves themselves with that method, and only do it that way when stripping a vehicle. How to properly remove valve from intake: Take a brass drift and a shop hammer. Tap upward along the back upper portion (you will see a notch fro a drift), then the back left portion (where you used that steel sledge head), alternating as it works its way loose. That's it. It takes a lot less time that way, too.

    WRONG! EGR delete is a federal crime in the USA, Canada, all of Europe and most first-world countries with penalties comparable to "possession of cocaine". The EGR controls combustion heat by introducing oxygen depleted air from the exhaust. Deleting an EGR is an incredibly selfish act contributing to air pollution, specifically high NOx. In atmospheric chemistry, NOx is shorthand for nitric oxide and nitrogen dioxide, the nitrogen oxides that are most relevant for air pollution. These gases contribute to the formation of smog and acid rain, as well as affecting tropospheric ozone, causes cancer in children and respiratory issues for the elderly. But what the hell, you falsely believe it improves your fuel milage and saves you 13 cents a month while making you feel like a big boy, getting one over on the government.
