    It's quite easy to remove the guts of the intake heater element and maintain a seal with original terminal bolt. It's only for emission control the first 90 seconds after start up. Direct injection engines don't really need it.

    Just take your time with the injector lines, they are a little bit fiddly to manoeuvre around. Make sure you let the car sit overnight before you crack the line. Good luck!

    Hi Justin, good to hear you got it all apart. Also check your breather pipe which goes from the valve cover to intake. Sometimes that gets blocked as well. Part 4 should be out Friday. Good luck, cleaning the black sludge is fun!

    Great video thanks. Has anyone removed the guts of their intake heater element and has it caused any codes or issues? I suspect this will be the easiest solution unless there is a cheap intake heater delete part available now? cheers

    Blocking the EGR stops putting exhaust soot back into your engine. If you do not have a catch can it will create a sludge which restricts airflow and lowers performance. The EGR gass is also hot, which will increase air intake temps, if the EGR inlet valve is partially stuck open, it will let boost pressure out. People have seen performance increases which have had heavily obstructed intake. (Better free flowing air) Others say it feels similar to what it was. It's more of a preventive mod, then a performance mod. By cleaning the intake, that will increase performance

    My only question in this process Do you think the ECU fuels or Air's the engine any different when the EGR system is operational? To compensate for the exhaust gas injection into the intake. Hence if you just installed a Blanking Plate and didn't handle the vacuum lines (blocking them off or what ever is needed, or even if that works?) Would the ECU possibly be incorrectly fuelling your engine? because it thinks there is less cold dense air in the intake while the EGR valve has been called to open. Or is it purely a mechanical process? And the ECU is unaware if the EGR valve is open or closed?

    With the 1HZ and 1HD-T the EGR does not control the fuel/ air delivery. I assume this would also be the same case with the 1HD-FTE. Since there is no airflow sensor or o2 sensor the engine has no way of detecting if the engine is running to rich or lean. It does have a knock sensor and a few other ones, but no way of detecting the richness of the fuel. The EGR only activates under certain conditions, so its not on all the time. In the worst case that it somehow was controlling the injector pump, it would mean that the engine would be running slightly richer. When you do the mod, have a look at your exhaust, if there is less or more soot, Black or white when accelerating.

    whats the difference between an egr delete and egr block.. I thought you had to block the crank fumes that recirculate. that piece u put on is hollow

  • @DanvsCar

    @DanvsCar

    EGR block you are just installing a blanking plate of the exhaust manifold side of the EGR pipe. doing it this way will keep the engine looking stock. EGR delete is completely removing the EGR System from the engine. Both do that same thing.
