There's one more point besides bulk and weight that many people consider important, and that is cost. Big difference between 5.0 AH and 12.0 AH.

If you are just starting out with EGO, the most important thing to know is the batteries and chargers are VERY EXPENSIVE if you buy them alone. So anytime you buy a tool, consider getting the package with a battery. Second most important thing to know is that the weight difference is huge.....the 2.5 is just right for blowers, hedgetrimmers, etc... You don't want a heavier (higher AH) battery in the smaller tools. The weight even makes a difference in the mowers, as a 5.0 or less makes the mower a breeze to push around. My advice is to have 2 chargers and go with lighter batteries. Finally, OGS mentioned it in the video but to be clear, you don't get more POWER with a higher ampere hour rated battery, you just get more RUN TIME. All the batteries work in all the EGO tools. So a 2.5 ah battery works just fine in a push mower, but will last about 15 mins, where a 5.0 will last longer but cut the grass exactly the same.

Thanks! Very helpful information for people like me. I recently retired to take care of my mother who has Alzheimer’s. She had been taking excellent care of her own yard since my Dad died in an accident 45 years ago. My husband has always taken care of my yard, but he’s a gas only lawn equipment guy. I’m trying to take care of my Mom’s huge outdoor areas (driveways, sidewalks, patio and deck). But the battery for my 3 year old Ego blower is not charging/holding a charge any longer. Thanks again!

Great comment!! My two additional cents, with how expensive the higher AH batteries are, imho when you get a tool, go as BIG AH as you can afford. It's super easy to grab an extra cheap 2.5ah or even a knockoff 2.5ah. It's $$$ to get a 10 or a 12ah alone. Go big, pick up a small to have on hand.

The larger batteries DO have more power! My 5ah battery will NOT run my CSX5000 chainsaw at maximum speed. I don't know if a 6ah one does; because I don't have one. But I DO know that the 7.5ah one WILL operate the saw at full speed.

Hi. I'm debating getting an EGO combo string trimmer and edger with the power head. It looks like it comes with the basic charger and the 4.0Ah battery. My question is, what's the best way to get the most longevity out of the EGO batteries? I've seen videos saying to not let them charge to 100%, or take them off the charger after they charge, etc. I guess there's a lot of opinions. I'd rather not buy an expensive battery prematurely. So what's your take on battery maintenance to get the battery to last as long as possible. Thanks, Matt

Last year I purchased a 2 stage ego snowblower and a 10ah battery and rapid charger. This year I bought a dual charger and a 12 volt battery. My question is can I run the 10 ah and the 12 ah in my snowblower at the same time? Also can I charge the 10ah and the 12ah battery on the dual charger at the same time.? Can I use either charger on the batteries? Many thanks for the help. Bob Erwin/ Ottawa Canada/

My 7.5aHr (1st gen) battery died with 10 days on the 3yr warranty. I got a solid red light on the quick charger and a rapidly flashing amber light after pressing the button for 5 seconds (indicates over temp condition). I'm in Ohio and might charge my battery 2x/wk in our 7-8 month mowing season. My battery should have lasted 4+years, but didn't make it to 3. Yes, it is being warrantied because I registered my mower purchase.

Blowers use more power than other tools so if you need a little more than 30min then 7.5ah is great otherwise 10ah is what you will need. It sounds like your running it on full blast as well so if the price isn't that much more over the 10ah then just get the 12ah.

I have an ego blower that came with a 4.0 ah battery and weed eater that came with the 2.5 ah battery. Question: Can I use the 4.0 with the weedeater as well as using the 2.5 with the blower? Otherwise, are they interchangable? Only reason I would do this would be if one or the other batteries is charging. Thanks in advance.

Call EGO. same thing happened to me. Your battery is done. Something is saying "over temp" meaning one of the cells is bad and is below voltage threshold

no fires here in 3 years of ownership. you still have to treat your battery nice. don't leave out in direct sun or bitter cold of winter for days on end. Don't leave it on the charger for hours/days after it finishes charging. However, no matter how good you treat your battery it can still fail sooner than expected, i.e. before the 800-1000 charge cycles they are rated for.

EGO says 800 to 1000 charge cycles. that's 15-19 years if you charge once a week all year around. I have a 7-8 mo mowing season in OH and my 7.5aHr battery died w/10 days left on the 3yr warranty. I got the solid red light on the quick charger indicating overheat condition yet it hadn't been used. Even if I charger 2x or 3x per week in my season, I still should have lasted 4+ years, not 2.97 yrs.

my 1st gen (single light) battery from 2019 barely made it 3 years before failing. Based on the overall performance of the mower and the battery tech, EGO is WAY overpriced for what it is and does. They are a lot like Apple; get you to invest in multiple tools and make it difficult to get out after investing a lot of money into 1 system. Additional batteries should not cost what they do. Yes, retailers have profit in those prices, but for many, a $300-400 battery is a new gasoline mower regardless of the price of gas. All of my gasoline mowers lasted 6+ years before they fell apart (engines were fine) and they performed a lot better at the task. EGO is barely a 3-⭐ brand and I see them only as meh. Took me less than 6 months to figure that out and made me sad I bought into the EGO brand (luckily I only have the 1 mower)

Long-time OG fan here. A little note: Voltage is not equatable to power. It is only half the equation. The first part of this video is probably going to go over the head of a novice (target audience?), confuse the intermediate user, and anger the advanced folks. Consider re-releasing the video with updated verbiage? Maybe mention the voltage and amperage ratings across all of the batteries are identical, which means they all deliver the same power? Or maybe the devices themselves request the same power from the battery, regardless of battery capacity (Ah rating)?

I belive the video is pretty clear, I underderstand where your coming from but as far as EGO is concerned Volts = "power" (its irrelevant anyway considering it doesn't change between battires) And Amp Hours = Duration/ Number or cells. I also dont belive the info provided will "go over there Head".
