EGO 56-Volt Cordless 15″ Auto-Wind String Trimmer with Carbon Fiber Shaft | Model ST1521S

Price the EGO 15" Carbon Fiber String Trimmer on Amazon: amzn.to/3bD2SMF
Power String Load - EGO's new 56-Volt Cordless 15" Auto-Wind String Trimmer with Carbon Fiber Shaft is the first string trimmer with an auto-wind head, but what does that mean for you? Is it important to you that you can load the line by just feeding in line pushing a button? We took a close look at this head to determine if the reliability is worth the simplicity of feeding trimmer line. More on this later.
The new EGO String Trimmer also has a Carbon Fiber Shaft with a lifetime warranty. What is Carbon Fiber and why do I want it on my string trimmer? First, Carbon Fiber is produced with carbon atoms that are bonded together in crystals that are more or less aligned parallel to the long axis of the fiber. This crystal alignment gives the fiber high strength-to-volume ratio. Several thousand carbon fibers are bundled together to form a tow, which may be used by itself or woven into a fabric. What you see on the handle of the EGO string trimmer is a carbon fiber fabric made into a tube. This use has several advantages including high stiffness, high tensile strength, low weight, high chemical resistance, high-temperature tolerance and low thermal expansion. The carbon fiber shaft makes the two piece shaft very stiff with the only real point of breakage being the aluminum joint in the middle. The way it is constructed, it will never bend! NOTE: You can buy this string trimmer, online only, with a one-piece Carbon Fiber shaft so you won't have an aluminum joint.
EGO ST1520S Features
Auto-wind head, load your line, push a button and go
Carbon fiber shaft with a lifetime warranty
15 cutting swath
Comes with Dual-feed spiral twist 0.095 in. line
Hi-efficiency brushless motor
Variable speed control
5-year limited warranty
Auto-Wind Head
EGO did more to the head of this unit than just make it auto-wind the string. When you take a good look at the head, there is a disk on the bottom that will spin independently of the head. This disk is made of metal and allows for the bump feed action to happen with little wear on the head, but also making the bump feed very smooth. Most string trimmers have a plastic bottom that will quickly show wear from bump feeding the string. Clearly, the goal in doing this was to make a long-lasting trimmer head that will not wear on the bottom. Inside the head, there are two spools that hold line independently for each side of the head. The head is easy to disassemble and could be would manually pretty easily if there was ever an issue with the auto-wind.
The auto-wind feature is easy to use and works similar to many of the manual feed heads on the market. Cut off 15 feet of your favorite line, feed the line through one of the eyes on the side of the head until it comes out the other side. Grab the line and pull an equal amount out on each side of the head, then push the button and watch the line feed into the head on its own. There will be some noises as the line feeds and you are able to start and stop feeding the line when you want by letting off the button and pushing it again. A very simple concept that is easy and convenient. We like this feature, but we were skeptical in the beginning. The fact that we can load line manually if this were to fail is important!
POWER
With any battery operated string trimmer, power is important to us. This new EGO string trimmer has the brushless motor located in the head of this unit and provides great power. It does not have the same power as the multi-head unit EGO makes, but it is very close. We were able to trim 12-16 inch grass without issue or without a time-out from the motor.
EGO's string trimmer is priced great for all the features and it is built to last. We don't think you can find a comparable gas unit on the market in the price range. This is another great product from EGO. If you are worried about moving over to a battery-powered trimmer, try this unit out. It will quickly change your mind and let you know that battery powered outdoor power equipment is the future and they are up to par now.

I own the EGO 15 in. string trimmer for 5 yrs. now. Never had a problem with the trimmer. I use a minimum of 3 times a week. Great product! I also own the leaf blower by EGO. I did have a problem with it. It ran for about 30 seconds, then shut off. I called EGO customer service, and instead of fixing it, they send me a new one! Very happy with the products and great customer service as well!

I love mine, I use it in my woods with a full face guard as it will cut limbs and large weeds and throw them several feet. Its to powerful for around a vinyl fence as it will cut into the fencing. Prime example at 59 on your video it appears part of the vinyl was chipped off the house you were trimming. Just purchased the battery self propelled mower, will have it tomorrow.

First off I want to say how much I really like these reviews. Other tool reviewers on youtube have simply turned into Home Depot commercials. You take the time to use and really talk about the tools, really appreciate that. I have the powerhead version, love it. Mine came with the 5.0ah battery and personally I want to find a 2.0 or 2.5 to cut down on the weight. I also have a 7.5ah battery that came with my mower but man, that thing adds a lot of weight to the back of these to be practical. I don't know about this model. Mine has the manual version of that head and it's pretty darn easy to use so not sure why you would need to add power to it. Maybe if my wife was using it but for me, the manual one is just fine. I'm hoping for more attachments for the powerhead, a mini snowblower for doing the deck and stairs would be great, I'd also really like to see a 30"-36" mower that uses two 7.5ah batteries.

IMHO, you will not be a huge fan of the 2.5Ah battery on the powerhead. Runtime will be cut back and I feel the 5.0 balances that once out well. I think more attachments are coming soon, but I still personally think they are limited in a way due to the power consumption of some.

This edger is awesome and feels great when using it. I used to use a Kobalt Weed Edger for a few years now. But what I didn’t like about it was the string was a pain to get in the holes and to make sure the string was snug in the grooves next to the holes. This EGO Weed Edger that’s in your video. I just purchased it a few days ago. A bit expensive but as you said in the video “Well Worth It”. Love how you can just put the string in the holes and just use a automatic button to have the string how you want it. The battery is great from my experience, but also is a problem because you can’t see the battery gauge of how much life is in the battery. Me too I also hope they will have a battery gauge that will show the hrs and life on the battery before it runs dry. Just like the other brands Stihls, Kobalt, Echo.

Not to be too critical, but I just have to say it. Your string / line will last a lot longer, and the tool will cut a lot faster, if you don't shove the unit all with way up against the object you're cutting around. The line's tips travel a lot faster out towards their ends, and it will keep your line from getting unnecessarily damaged.

I wish Ego would tell everyone that all of their weed trimmers are not quite, variable speed, (0- 5800 rpms, that's what I would like) as soon as you squeeze the trigger it starts running at 4000 rpms and then is varable upto 5800 rpms. If you need to go slower, up close to tree trunks or flower beds your out a luck.

The shaft is not split to stock on the shelves at Home Depot, silly - the shaft is split so you can fit the string trimmer into the trunk of a car. - Not everyone drives a truck or SUV. I use this folding feature quite often for transporting the trimmer, and the aluminum screw hole will not strip out if you use the tool provided and don't over-torque it!

I can’t decide between this ego solid carbon shaft or the Milwaukee M18. I’m already steeped in The Milwaukee line up but I don’t mind adding the Ego equipment either. I see them as dual purpose line ups. Anyway, I just bought the Ego 580 blower. Just need to decided which trimmer to get. The Milwaukee feels very nobody and heavy whereas the Ego seems more user friendly and lighter. The shaft seems shorter on the Ego in comparison. I don’t have a monster sized yard but I do appreciate power and quality. Thoughts?

Tough call bud. I like both string trimmers, but here is my recommendation right now. The auto-wind is nice, but not needed. The new EGO trimmers without auto-wind have a quick load system. Milwaukee still does not use the quick load system. For that reason, I would go EGO. That is all I can come up with to help.

My sister has difficulty with tools that are too heavy and she actually loved mine and found it easy to use kzread.infoUgkx_rBCFuDW1zD6blTGhLkvAkxU657uR_lG . This is a newer model but was even lighter which she really appreciates. She enjoys it and I no longer have to go to her house to trim as she can handle it fine. Haven't used it enough to comment on the battery life but lithium batteries last longer than the old style. Being cordless makes it easy to trim the far edges of the property. The entire yard can be trimmed with one charged battery.

*I have used Stihl for over 20 years 🌴 **allabout.wiki/EGO** and after reading some reviews of this trimmer, I tried EGO Power+ , and I'm going to switch. Compared to several Stihl trimmers I've had, this one is easier to start, quieter, and feels at least as well built . A major plus is it doesn't have the wonky, always leaking, complicated gas tank caps that Stihl has.*

I’m strongly considering an EGO string trimmer. I’m wondering if there is a difference in performance between the model with auto feed and carbon fiber shaft and the previous model? I’m trying to decide if i can save $40 if i’m not dead set on those new features. Thanks!

Is the increased grass blowback something I’ll just have to get used to with the bigger battery? I do have the thing assembled as per its manual’s instructions.

I went with this carbon fiber Ego when I saw the price drop to $179. Figured it was a no brainer for only being $30 more than the Ryobi I was going to get. I also got the 530CFM since that dropped in price. Now I have 2 batteries. 1 is plenty for the trimmer but using the blower I need about 1 and probably half of the 2nd battery, depending on how much I need. No problems so far.

They will tell you for work take it to Home Depot but all they do is send it to Georgia and charge you at HD and you might as well buy a new one. I did exactly that and I broke the shaft not I have two new broken shaft models. Never again. There phone numbers chang and they never call you back.
