I recommend a count down timer on the power outlet to reduce fire hazard and overcharging. It works perfect in my workshop
Fantastic idea that charging cabinet!!! Maybe try rubber bands across the section where that slippery device lives. I think if you put a bunch of wide rubber bands 1/4" or so apart it may work. Also, I think sometype of surge protector would be useful. There is a wall surge protector at Amazon with four USB ports and three outlets. In your case, you'd still need to use a couple of the AC outlets for two wall chargers. Also, you can label each cord by writing on recycled bread tags and clipping them to each cord.
Wish I had the cabinet space but this is genius and it looks so tidy! Thank you for sharing.
I like to use magentic charging cables for devices that are charged almost always in the same spot. This way you don't have to think about which device is being plugged in (the adapters makes them universal) and it is much easier to connect, especially for micro usb.

I've heard they increase charging time, but I live with my phone on a charger at home, but PD method charges fast, I don't know if the battery has been affected living on the charger.. my first Pixel gained a inner bulge and its only used in emergency.
You should review the lutron caseta sensor, I want to get it but can't find any up-to-date reviews. Thanks!
Terrific video brother
Nice concept, however I do wonder about its practicality and real use. Do you bring the devices back to this specific cabinet prior to going to bed or are they going to end up on chargers all over your house anyway?
Please give us what we want, a new house tour! It does not have to be all decked out in smart gear. In fact how about a walk through with a plan for smart devices and automation. Then a follow up with actually implementing the plan or showing why something did not work and what needed to change. Like have you ever installed a hue outdoor motion sensor. My plan changed twice due to traffic, people and unforeseen motion from flags, leaves, etc. And this is after I had to yank the Eufy pro 360 camera due to similar problems. You learn more from the process than the finished product kind of like your Lutron Claro video.

Haha! I wanted to get at least a few smart things in before we started to tour videos. I'm almost to the point where I have enough together that it would be worth showing. The challenge now is just keeping it clean long enough to get to making the video.
Your new house looks nice!😊

Hey tech with Bret I like your videos and I also like the video that you did about a echo dot
Very nice and neat solution
Hey Brett, have you considered using magnetic tips and cables for your devices? Once you have the tip inserted in the device it can use any of the cables. Best of all you don’t need to worry about damage from cables going in & out all the time and saves damage from people (kids) plugging them in the wrong way (especially for those handful of devices that still use USB A or USB B). Plus the added benefit of cords not getting yanked out if someone pulls or drops the device while still plugged in. Most don’t support data transmission. But you can get ones that do (Volta). However, I didn’t have a good experience using it in the car on phone to use wired CarPlay
Very smart, I like it!
3:00 Get a piece of soft silicone tube in the right size, cut it up on one side lengthwise and push it onto the outside part of the wire shelving. That will take care of the slipperiness.
Cool idea
Maybe you can use an elastic/bungee cord (or even paracord) with a hook so that tablet doesn't fall.
I love it!!! Have you ever forgot to unplug them before going to bed and left them charging all night? Im very paranoid about things like that. My phone charger is connected to a smartthings plug and its programed to turn off at 1am so it wont charge all night.

I am not been concerned about this. We keep them charge for long periods. I think it is a best practice to unplug after being charge but I have never really any issues leaving them in.
hey bret when is the new smart home cool. I am so curious about your new home
Nice to have everything out of sight. But closed cabinet could form a fire hazard. I would recommend to add some active ventilation to get the heat of the charging devices out. Don't know how hot it gets in Summer time where you are at, but overhere it can be over 30 degrees Celsius. On a side note I always notice that US outlets cause plugs to not be in that secure. Comparing to EU outlets.

Yeah I could definitely do some automation and even use a smart outlet to stop the charging when full or shut off if experiencing high temps.
I just started the video but hold up... are those Samsung Level headphones? I was NOT expecting to see that. I've seen no other KZreadr worth Samsung Level's besides myself with the Level On's. You got the Samsung Level Over's correct? I loved mine before the headband snapped. Sad they discontinued them.

Haha! Level Overs! I was gifted them from an award I received at Samsung. They are amazing and great to have around. I did get a newer Samsung AKG headphone but lost those on a plane somewhere.

You made me cry when I saw that Pixel! I just traded my P6P for the 7 and don't even want to use the old phone since I am trading it in. So afraid I am going to jack it up before I can do the trade in! LOL

It is great great upgrade! You'll be good, just get your info transferred and trade it in soon.
Does the cabinet have ventilation at the top ?
You should try some magnetic usb tips like type c. micro usb and lighting and the end of the wire can be attached via magnets to charge the devices.

@@TechWithBrett yea those should work fine here since the device stay mostly stationary tucked away, it will be a slower rate of charging but the small convenience i guess
Did you have a Whitestone Dome Screen Protector on your Pixel 7 Pro ? JaneLee - in Suburban Philadelphia 12/3/22

nice!
Why not get a receptacle that is all USB ports? They make those and it would make sense if this cabinet is only for devices
Search for cat tongue grip tape. That will fix the sliding issue.

I'll keep an eye on the Anker 735 but typically not everything will need to be fully charged at the same time so it shouldn't be an issue. But it does have built in heat Active Shield that monitors overheating.
You need to set some timer on the charger. Not god to charge all the time. Some automation mabye?

It stil blows my mind how Americans build houses out of WOOD IN 2022 ?? I would be scared it would collapse on me or if you punch the wall, you could get to the outside ??
@TechWithBrett
Жыл бұрын
Well the outside does have a concrete barrier so that would be hard to break through. But after framing a few houses they are pretty sturdy if done right.
