Please enjoy my reaction to Home Free's a capella cover of the classic hit song, American Pie featuring the legend himself, Don McLean! I had so many amazing childhood memories associated with this song and I absolutely LOVE this incredible remake these guys did! Not only that, to bring in Don and let him show off that he's still got it this many years later is just so special!

A documentary was done for the 50th Anniversary that can be streamed. It's called "The Day the Music Died/American Pie". Home Free is in it too.
This was done during the pandemic . In the BTS Don McLean wanted to do this in a more upbeat way. When Don told Darren Rust Home Free’s producer this Darren told him to do it the way he wanted and they would follow him.
They all won several Telly awards for this video and Don finally got his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and invited Home Free to sing a bit of his song at the reveal.
Don McLean asked Home Free to do this song with him on the 50th anniversary of this song. This is so very awesome! I love this version so much. Don McLean can still sing so well! Love your reaction!
Really enjoyed your reaction! This just proves that Home Free doesn't just cover a song....they upgrade and enhance them!
Nostalgic. It makes you look back at a good time in your life with fond remembrance.
It’s stunning isn’t it?!! Don sounds great for 75! And when he got a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame he invited Home Free out to celebrate with him. How cool is that?! I thought they all did a great job and I liked the boxes as they reminded me of shadow boxes you keep your memories in. This was during Covid so that’s why they did it that way. Good reaction Tyler!😃😍
How incredible was that?! When Don got his star on the walk of fame, he had our HF guys join him & sing a snippet of this. So special❤❤
Like you "American Pie" brings back fond memories. I remember you had to flip the 45 onto the B side to hear the entire song.
I love the fact that we grew up with different homes, different families, and different lives, BUT with the same music! Music is the ultimate universal language.
"Wow" is the reaction shared by all who love this classic.
One of my favorite classic songs. Home Free and Don gave us an incredible remake . I love it. Love your reaction.
You got it right -- this is not a cover or an upgrade. It's a remake of a great song, remade from the ground up but, at the same time, a tribute to a 50-year-long legendary classic. Thank you for loving it, and for the love you give to these 6 artists.
Not only did Don invite HF for his Hollywood star, he also invited Weird Al Yankovic, the king of song parady. (My My This Anakin Guy parady of American Pie)
What an honor it must be to be able to sing with Don McLean and the result is so great. With a Home Free twist but still respecting the original. The harmony is amazing again. And what a great voice Don McLean still has. My childhood memory of this song is that I always had to sing along. And now I do that again.
I *knew* you'd love this one! 😉❤ I can't imagine it being done any better. They won multiple Telly Awards for this video ...deservedly!
Love this remake of this classic song. Can't believe it came out 50 years ago. Don McLean still has a good voice for his age. And love hearing all the guys take a turn in a verse. Poor Adam had to do such a long stretch of beatboxing but he nailed it. Think the song is about 8 min. long. Don McLean received his Hollywood Star on the Walk of Fame recently & Home Free was invited to sing a portion of this song there. What an honor for them. "American Pie" pays tribute to the loss of 3 legends who died so young (Buddy Holly, Richie Valens & The Big Bopper). A lot of references in the song are made to many artists from the early days of music including Elvis, Janis Joplin, The Beatles, Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, Byrds & others.
That ending always brings a tear to my eyes.
Just happy you like it.
Luv your reaction to this. It took me back also! I remember traveling from Florida to michigan every summer and us four girls singing this song. So yup I was also singing along! 🎵🎙🎶🎤
They won a telly award for this
I'm so old I remember when the original was new. The song is a masterpiece referencing everything from the tragic plane crash to the notorious Altamont, Kent State to Janis Joplin. I think the age in Don McLean's voice only adds to the poignancy of the song. They also have collaborations with Kenny Rogers, the Oak Ridge Boys, Texas Hill, Charlie Daniels, Alabama & Lee Greenwood among others.
Such a creative way to continue to put out videos--in spite of quarantine! 🥰 And goodness--one wonders how the amazing Adam Rupp was able to beatbox through such a long song without passing out!! 🤯 #HomeFree

Rupp almost did pass out the first few times through it But I swear he has extra Lungs somewhere.
Don wanted to do this in honor of the 50th anniversary of the song.
