📸 My current photography gear:
Panasonic S1- amzn.to/39SczqO
Sigma Art 35mm 1.4 L mount - amzn.to/3i1SGAc
Panasonic Lumix 24-105 f4 L mount - amzn.to/3grgQ6U
YONGNUO YN-560 IV Flash - amzn.to/2DAsZI4
🖥 Computer Editing Setup = 2019 27" imac upgraded with 40gb of ram: amzn.to/3i3Vk8I
When I'm working away from home, I use a 2015 15" macbook pro with 16gb of ram - So you don't NEED the brand new fancy computer... It just speeds up the performance and snappiness of Lightroom so you're not waiting so long for previews to load or images to export etc.
Recommended laptop:
💻 13 inch S1 Macbook Pro $1249 USD
www.amazon.com/dp/B08N5LLDSG?...
The new S1 Macbook Air and S1 Macbook Pros are AMAZING for photo editing and Lightroom Performance, even with their base model options
With the new M1 macbooks, 8gb RAM works. With any other machine, I'd recommend going with at least 16gb of ram and 512gb of storage if you can swing it.

In the first 10 minutes I learned how to speed up my workflow by like 500% thanks to you. Bought your Clean & Classic presets (my first time ever buying presets or LUTs), and within an hour got my selects, halfway done with the editing, and everything looks professional
I have just started watching your editing videos rather than movies and I have really learned so much from them. Thank you for sharing your skills. You are a really good teacher. God Bless you.
Wow thank you, finally someone is speaking my language lol. I have been messing around with presets for years in frustration, and are stylistically way too strong and seem to only work sometimes. I just purchased this set Clean & Classic and they are amazing. Just what I was searching for fewww. Very helpful tutorial too that showcases your presets in all lighting conditions, and not just perfect lighting and perfect locations that other companies seem to showcase. Thanks again
Thanks Ryan! I’m a relatively new full time working professional photographer videographer and am looking to evolve my editing skills. I specialize in hybrid wedding coverage so I personally shoot both photo and video for my clients. This makes it a lot of fun to edit! Made it to the end and now about to watch your other 4 hour editing video. Keep it up! 🐉🙏🏼

TRUTH- what a crazy awesome photographer @steve.wicky
Your knowledge, skills and talent are fabulous. Just a comparison between then and now....my four 1976-2006 Chicago area studios used to shoot 1000 weddings each year, on film. Averaged about 400 pictures per wedding. Our editing process (no computers used) was very simple, pull out any images that 1) make the studio look bad, or 2) make a customer look bad. Then drop the prints in professionally designed packaging, add the ordering forms, and call the customer. Sales of 2.2M annually. Entire process, maybe 20 minutes. We didn't sell the negatives. Average order was about 2200.00 in 1990. The final work was nowhere as nice as what modern photographers produce with autofocus, 1000-2000 shots, and instant digital confirmation via chipping. ALL of our brides ended up with a beautiful photo album, probably still in their possession, decades later.

RIGHT?! Haha yes LR can be frustrating. Couple things that have made a HUGE difference for me has been A) Editing with the images on an SSD rather than a normal HD B) Upgrading the RAM in my computer C) Turning OFF graphics acceleration (For some reason it makes things way slower D) Turning off denoise in my editing settings until the very end - Obviously I'm STILL wishing Lr were faster, but these have all made a big difference! Smart previews helps, but not as much as these :) Good luck

@@SignatureEdits I know that this is not strictly editing related but maybe a little bit on big group shots and how to get everybody to look good in them. I have one with 20 people in it, I counted to three for every shot and took about 20 pictures of the group and there was one woman who has her eyes closed or half closed in all of them. I feel really bad that I didn’t notice but there were just too many people and I was focused on the main bridal party and the small children.

@@viennabooks741 Oh man I feel you! Bigger groups it's just the reality that you there is almost always ONE haha. My only real tips would be to take more shots - For instance, while counting to 3, I'd probably take about 6 or 7 shots. The bigger the group, the more safety shots as a rule of thumb. Another option - Depending on how wide it is, if the person has ONE eye open in a shot, just move into photoshop, copy that eye to the other side and flip it horizontally - voila :) If it's a real big group shot, you can even get away with using someone elses eyes! No perfect solution, but hope this helps :)

Sure thing! Not sure what would be different... You can have sorting done by capture time, so the file names really wouldn't matter :) If your capture times weren't synced, you can find the same moment during the wedding (say the kiss) and use those photos from both cameras to find the difference in time, then adjust all accordingly! I have a tutorial on the channel for this

Hi Ryan, Love your videos! One question though - do you underexpose on purpose? you bump up the exposure quite a lot...
@SignatureEdits
4 жыл бұрын
Hi Hudi, thanks so much! Great question - The answer is yes sometimes - Underexposing makes sure you don't blow out your highlights. With an underexposed image you can recover +1 stops without losing much, whereas if you're +1 overexposed you're going to have problems, so it's easier to be a little under. Shooting in aperture priority mode your camera also tends to underexpose on bright days as its adjusting for the sky. All that said, you're right that in general these photos could definitely have been a little brighter on the exposure :)

@SignatureEdits

I envy you! Looks liek Fuji has the upperhand in WB accuracy. Depends what you mean by skin smoothing, but in general... Not unless it's very necessary (side light exposing blemishes etc) - I WILL sometimes use some denoise to provide a bit of smoothing. Side note... Did you go to Hillsong? I feel like I knew a Flo Rieder when I was there haha.

Thanks for making this video. It's always interesting to see others' process. What do you know about how this wedding was shot? I haven't watched the whole video yet, I'm about half way through but it appears they used center point focus and didn't recompose for almost every shot... was there a reason for this at all? I'm guessing it was not continuous AF as well?
@SignatureEdits
3 жыл бұрын
Without being the one who shot the wedding I can't say for sure, but yes mostly center focus and Steve & Lindsay (The photogs) usually shoot center framed. Mostly because at a live event that just works the most consistently... As for continuous AF I have no idea. I personally normally shoot single spot AF
@mrbrakelol
3 жыл бұрын
@@SignatureEdits Yeah I always struggle with focus in candid situations too... and of course center point focus and recompose can lose the focus plane too... so how do you approach focusing? Center point as and no recompose as well? Or move the point around depending on the shot?
@SignatureEdits
3 жыл бұрын
@@mrbrakelol As with everything when talking settings for photography... It depends :) Depending on the situation, I might just shoot center if I don't have time to play around with framing or adjust focus point, or if I have time I might move the focus point, or if I HAVE to frame things off from center but am in a rush, I'd focus and recompose... Overall honestly if your lenses are high quality, you're not going to notice a huge loss of sharpness from focus and recompose in most situations... These days however multi AF is getting so good that often I'll just rely on it to identify my subject and set the focus for me... But again, depends on the situation, the lighting, and how critical it is I nail it first try!
@mrbrakelol

Great question Stephani! LR is meant for basic editing to bring out the best in your natural photos and for batch editing LOTS of images. Photoshop on the other hand is meant for in depth editing, swapping out backgrounds, doing crazy effects etc on one image at a time. You can do a lot more crazy stuff with it, but for most general photography purposes I'd say LR is the better all around tool. Think of Lightroom like a hammer, and Photoshop like a biscuit joiner... Everyone needs a hammer and you use it for all sorts of things. Whereas a biscuit joiner is a tool most people don't need or even need to know how to use for most of their projects. Weird analogy but hopefully you understand :)
