🚚 Edison Motors: By Truckers, For Truckers! 🚚
🔧 Built by Truckers, for Truckers 🔧
Founded by Chace Barber and Eric Little in 2016, Edison Motors is a testament to the trucking spirit. Beginning with a 1969 Kenworth Logging Truck named "Old Blue," they journeyed from Merritt, BC, hauling logs to the Yukon and drilling rigs in Alberta. Frustrated with newer trucks, they rebuilt classics from the frame up, expanding into power generation and off-grid solar systems in 2019. Their journey led to the creation of the Edison Truck, a robust electric truck tailored to logging and heavy vocational industries.
🔩 Upgrade Without Replacing: Edison Electrification Kit 🔩
Keep trucks on the road longer with the Edison Electrification kit. Upgrade your driveline to electric without replacing the entire truck. Ideal for vocational applications, this kit is a cost-effective solution. Unlike other electric trucks, Edison Motors offers customer choice. Choose between Rebuilding (utilizing existing cab and frame rails) or Remanufacturing (brand new frame and chassis).
🚚 Payload Efficiency: The Weight Balance 🚚
Edison Trucks match the weight of a normal diesel truck. With reduced motor weight and additional fuel balancing out battery weight, experience efficiency and increased payload capacity. The L series, though slightly heavier, remains comparable to a normal diesel truck.
🛠️ Keep Your Equipment with Rebuilt Trucks 🛠️
For vocational trucks, keep your equipment with a rebuilt truck. Edison's e-pto and control system integrate seamlessly. No need to replace your entire body when upgrading to an electric truck.
🔧 Bespoke Manufacturing: Handcrafted to Your Needs 🔧
The manufacturing process at Edison Motors is a testament to their commitment to customer satisfaction. Each Edison Truck undergoes a meticulous five-step process, from frame and rolling chassis preparation to final touches and rigorous testing. The focus is on building a truck that reflects the customer's requirements, embracing the philosophy of "Building The Truck Of The Future With The Quality Of The Past."
🔌 Electric or Diesel-Electric: Your Power, Your Choice 🔌
Edison Motors offers both fully electric and diesel-electric vocational trucks based on customer demands. The onboard generator ensures continuous operation in areas lacking charging infrastructure.
💡 Advantages of Electric: Power, Torque, Longevity 💡
Edison Trucks bring increased power, torque, reliability, and longevity. Inspired by electric freight trains, regenerative ability harnesses energy for efficient uphill climbs.
⚙️ Efficiency Redefined: Diesel-Electric Technology ⚙️
Diesel-electric technology delivers peak load demand energy supply. Batteries initiate movement, and the diesel generator recharges the battery, capturing braking energy for restarts. The generator's constant RPM eliminates turbo lag.
🌿 Environmental Benefits: Paving the Way for Change 🌿
Diesel-electric technology results in up to 70-100% fuel savings, directly correlating to a 75%-100% reduction in diesel exhaust. Smaller lithium batteries mean less environmental damage. Diesel-electric offers a practical transition to electric for energy-intensive trucking industries. Generator diesel engines ensure optimal fuel/air ratio, contributing to a hotter and cleaner burn of emissions.

I'm not sure if you understand how Edison Motors has captured the "Zeitgeist" of the Canadian diaspora,... you can see it in the comments sections. Your popularity will allow you to plow thru the morass that is Canadian Bureaucracy, Under promise results and reap the benefits of blown out expectations , it will be harder for a low production manufacture. In your favour however are the next level performance that Ev's provide that will smash any detractors bluster. What i am personally looking for are the results only YOU can provide on the logging roads. I believe that once that vehicle is dialed in, ..accelerator mapping and control functions , even YOU will be blown away by the precision of this "testbed". Good luck Edison Motors.

5:20 Hawaii Islands over the last few years have done the same with a lot of their islands with solar and wind farms with batteries - they have been taking out diesel generators because they were never getting used. Even the main and bigger islands are closing down fossil fuel power stations due to the costs and also they get enough power from renewables. The plan is to get fossil fuel free by 2040ish which will save the population a lot of money because they do not need to import petroleum-based products and other fossil fuels which cost a lot more because it has to be transported from mainland USA.

Mini solar power stations are popping up in rural Ghana too, as it's too expensive to put up power lines for 20 houses in the bush. Theives have been stealing the high-tension cables, and wooden poles don't work after bush fires burn them down. So the government gave it a rethink and came up with the mini solar power stations. They also have the benefit of no power cuts; unfortunately, I'm on the national grid, and I'm lucky if I get power for three days in a row. It looks like the way forward for a lot of countries.

Couple ideas for you, with electric throttle mapping it'd be cool if you had a way to adjust the sensitivity of the pedal to whatever the operator desires. If someone wants a race car, they can adjust it more aggressively Also I can't remember what steering system is on the truck. If you get electric over hydraulic steering, you can also change the steering rate. Make the steering faster on road and slower off-road in the bush Just a couple thoughts!

yah a "throttle" leaver on the dash so the driver can pick how much go he wants on the fly, cuz going empty you don't want that much, but loaded you might want more! either that or the truck will have to simply have a max acceleration set that won't ever let the tires spin, loaded or empty.

Awesome. There is tremendous opportunity in the renewables sector and not nearly enough people working there yet. Quality honest electricians will be in short supply for a while (not that they weren't already) as people switch to solar, heat pumps for heat and hot water, and home batteries for power arbitrage and home backup. Even simple things like a panel for emergency systems and charging your EV. The demand is likely going to skyrocket as people trust the grid less and less and the impacts of climate change make it less reliable.

What is the price difference between Pb and LFP battery banks for a system like the one demonstrated on the island. (Value is obtained of course over the lifetime of the system.) Backing up with diesel for the sub10% of days is obviously cost effective, rather than having to double - or greater - the battery banks - even then (without an "extravagant" spend) it wouldn't last through an extended stretch of bad weather - meaning the full sized diesel backup will still be needed even after a 2x spend, something governments and grid operators don't seem willing to admit (we will still need baseload redundancy for "the forseeable future" in grid applications).

Lead acid batteeies cost peehaps 1/10 per kwh, but in the long run will cost more because of faster degradation and you never want to discharge below 50%. Lead acid will be useful in -20⁰C without having to heat the building. Llithium is terrible below 5⁰C and stop working below 0⁰C. Wearing out your lead acid batteries justifies the much more expensive but better value lithium batteries later. BreakING up the initial investment into more managable spread out chunks makes the system easier to buy.

I think the remote energy usage is probably one of the better cases for solar power and/or wind. Likely their diesel savings alone will pay off the system, but having the diesel there as a backup is huge. It's still energy dense and will help in the winters. I think the only thing you could do more is find a way to better use the wasted heat from the engines to heat a house or something like that. Likely it will go a long way to keeping the diesel fuel from jelling up in the shed and keep the batteries above freezing.

8:35 you should look into using a tablet you can root and install a BMS onto for this. If it's staying plugged in all the time, the battery is going to die way sooner than it should, potentially catastrophically. There are already plenty of solutions for android that will limit the charge level to 80% max charge (or custom) for longevity of the hardware. Maybe this device is already supported. This kind of install is going to be unattended enough that if the battery in that tablet swells up and fails, it'll burn down the whole system quite literally. Stay safe and keep up all your amazing work lads I looked into it when i was setting up old phones as remote cameras and found one busted open from the battery.

Northern telecom batteries in glass cases were lead acid and were capable of 90++ years. 21stcentury battery chemistries promise even longer when coupled with Monitoring BMS. Please consider expanding your line up of work trucks. Full size 3/4 and 1 ton trucks and vans. I don't need all the technology, or the $50,000 price tag that comes with buying a work truck or van. I need a licensed, registered, insured, running/driving work truck that can transport 4'x8' sheet goods and has a ladder rack. Manual crank windows, manual locks, steel wheels, etc. Just a good old fashioned bare bones basic work truck/van.

had a guy in a discord server wanting to go all solar due to his energy bill rates being terrible. he lives pretty far from the city so that's why. but his particular climate just doesn't make solar or wind viable at all. after some back and forths along with some rate and efficiency calculations we firgured out that a small propane generator and a battery system was perfect. he spends a quarter of what he used to for power needs.

so what if you programmed on a board multiple sensitivity levels for the pedal, so like say you’re on the highway and your pulling the logs to the destination you could have a higher sensitivity level but then with like a button press on the little tablet or whatever you installed on the interior you could then have a low sensitivity pedal where even with the pedal fully pressed you’re going at most 30kmh

  • @wildtwindad

    @wildtwindad

    8 ай бұрын

@@iirokangas3434 they would serve as the primary source for power on the torque curve. Thereby relieving the bulk of the power draw off of the batteries themselves. This would prolong the life of said batteries. Skeletons graphene super capacitors have a life cycle in the tens of thousands, while batteries in the thousands. Also the charge/discharge time is in the seconds so they can also serve as a secondary "fuel" source to be discharged at the top/bottom of the work zone to facilitate better charge times.

  • @iirokangas3434

@@wildtwindad yeah, idk man. The truck is already 25% more expensive than comparable ICE vehicles. Seems like the ultracaps are way more expensive than Chinese LiFePo battery packs. Also the energy density for Skeleton ultracaps is 6.8Wh/kg compared to ~150Wh/kg for the batteries so replacing the battery (or part of it) would increase the weight of the vehicle. As Chace said in one video, weight saved is money earned for truckers. At this point I think it would make sense to streamline and simplify to make the truck cheaper and easier to manufacture rather than add another system on top of everything. Thoughts?
