Starring Burt Lancaster, Peter Capaldi, Peter Reichart, Jenny Seagrove, and more. Lovely movie. They played this at the Edinburgh Military Tattoo that I went to in either 1996 or 97. Theme of Braveheart at beginning of Tattoo, Skye Boat song also played, but this......this song has my heart.

I've seen the movie on somewhere and i remember the video quality were really bad but did not mind it at all the movie atmosphere and feeling was amazing i loved it. And would love to found it somewhere again and again

Heard this at the Edinburgh Military Tattoo in Melbourne Australia in 2016, I distinctly remember the feeling of my body being covered in goosebumps and the emotions it brought about and decided that this was going to be the song to be played on my final journey back home to my family members that have passed before me.

That guitarist is Matt Gregory, from the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards. He starts the great Mark Knopfler "Going Home" fairly slowly, then really lets it rip towards the end. Great compose, great number, great guitarist playing it here, & the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards giving the perfect backing. Absolutely spell-bounding!

I have heard this song played by hank Marvin and the shadows and i loved it, but this was incredible a lone guitarist with an entire military band behind him. I wasn’t expecting the pipes and drums to join in, when they did I got a shiver down my spine, makes you proud to be scotish

I was fortunate enough to land in Edinburgh that day, picked up by my Wee Scottish Lass we came to this amazing Tattoo, Mark Knophler has always been a great idol of mine and to hear "Going Home" with bagpipes got me teary eyed. Beautiful Scotland! Was good to see my people perform there too. Love and respect from New Zealand

What a fantastic rendition and I love the way two thirds of the orchestra appear from the darkness.

I listened to this tonight for our 4 fallen Police officers In Melbourne. 2 have been laid to rest, 1 has made the long journey home by road to Newcastle with full honours, and our final officer will be laid to rest tomorrow. Then they will all be going nome to the big station to serve and protect us from above. 💙💙💙💙

Thankyou! I come back to this video time and time again. One of my favourite pieces of music in a setting of my childhood. Very much appreciated and enjoyed often.

Had this played as the final song at my husband's funeral. He was a proud Scot, a guitarist and a piper. So it was an obvious choice. I hope he heard it.

Probably because there is a traditional tune played by pipes called Going Home that is used for the military, LEO, and FF in the line of duty. That is what they might have been expecting. It's actually what expected to hear a tattoo play, not a Knopfler song.

My grandfather was born in Glasgow. I'm a northumbrian, this is an anthem for the North.

From a Southern Softy- I watch this time after time and still get goosebumps when the bands march in

I saw the movie in a theater in 1983 when it was released. It didn't stay there long. Best movie I've ever seen. Joy of life, wry humor - "I'll make a good Gordon, Gordon" - and Knopfler's music to bring tears to your eyes. Every time I hear it.

I can't watch this without sobbing. My Dad loved it, and my Scottish ex husband who is now in a care home. I still love him. 😥 This is so moving.

@@johnmcdowall7451 Sorry bonnie lad but was brought up in Newcastle and still has his Geordie accent to prove it, and I believe doesn't have a drop of Scottish blood in him. Try St. James's Park were the Toon run out to this at every home game, and the massive roar of 52000 Geordies as the last notes ring out. Howay the lads.

You must hear the version played by the greatest instrumental group of all time...the British group " The Shadows ". There is also a version of this played on stage by Hank Marvin , Lead guitarist of The Shadows and Mark himself....both with their Stratocasters....incredible music.!!!!! Music that is inspiring , rousing , and thrilling. Awesome.!
