I was born in Edinburgh in 1948. Left for Kenya Africa and did not come back until 1962.Stayed a year with my nana and then off to Sweden.Came back in 1972 and loved the city.I am now going back with my son and grandson, .53 years have passed.This was a really Great video. Loved the city sounds, that there was no music and your texts only.I enjoyed every minute of your filmTank you ever so much. I am longing to go now, so inspiring .Take care .THANKS .

Great video of my Favourite City! (I've visited 6 times from my home in Belfast... In the last 3 months!). Don't forget to look down as well as up. Or you'll miss The Heart of Midlothian! Also the "Gold Bricks (Cobblestones)". They mark the outline of Historical Buildings, Borders and Outlines. You'll see them in lots of areas. Right down the Royal Mile. Even outside The Worlds End Pub. Where they map out the Old City Boundary Gates. It's a Wonderful City. Which has just been voted the Safest in the U.K. And as a Lone-traveller??? I can appreciate. Please keep the Video's rolling in!

The best part is the heart of midlothian, spit in the middle, (for good luck 👍 or so they say) the worst part is the waste of scottish peoples money at the bottom called the Scottish Parliament the joke that it is.

In 2005, stayed in Edinburgh for 4 days. Used the Hop on/off buses. Spent one day in the castle. The last night was a farewell haggis dinner for our group. Would love to return. So much that I missed.

Edinburgh is amazing. I love it so much. 😍

Thankyou for that. My late mother and sister, and I, walked the Royal Mile in 1988. We started from Prince Street, went to the Castle (fabulous), then did the Mile up to Holyrood, which was also fabulous. Walked past the Witchery! My sister really into that at the time and have a memorable photo of her standing outside it. Went into St Giles! That was more my scene! Thanks for this memory. I know I’ll never get back to Scotland, land of my ancestors. It really is the most magical place on earth. 👍😍🇦🇺

When I first came to Scotland, My first stop was Great Edinburgh, and my first meal had to be the 'Natural Dish', I had go by the city bus tour, walking had to be limited because I use an strong Arm cane, had an hip replacement etc, etc, etc., thanks for walking for me, cheers! for now.

So happy I found this channel. I was en Edinburgh recently for the first time. My trip was way too short. Thank you for taking me back before I can visit again.

Loved the Bay City Rollers so sad about Les.The World's End pub info was very interesting and loved the water spouts on the fountain. Thanks for showing : )

I loved the lack of commentary during the walk, but appreciated the printed messages describing what we were seeing. It was very much like actually being there. We were on a tour of GB several months ago with Edinburgh being our last destination, but we both came down with Covid and were quarantined in our hotel room room for 10 days. However the Apex Marketplace hotel was great and my wife got all the British tv she wanted!

I did a 3 weeks BT training course in Edinburgh manys years ago. I lived in Derby and so too far to come home. Enjoyed the experience and architecture. The people are lovely and kind. Shame the Scottish Government hate us so much, and never warm to us. We are one people and POLITICS should not divide us. PEOPLE IN POWER SPOIL EVERYTHING. Keep stoking the fire Nicola

Thanks for the memories. It's been 30 years since I was there. I was lucky to get a hotel room. The TIC at Waverley Station found one for me. The Rugby World Cup was on and Ireland were here playing. I went into Deacon Brodies Tavern near the castle, and a couple of guys were watching a match on TV. Being from Canada, I didn't know the game, but they were good enough to explain some of the rules to me.

Thank you for this tour and thank you for not playing background music and keeping the real sounds on. I even enjoyed the construction noise. Maybe go to the Scottish Borders in the summertime. The countryside is stunning and visit some towns there like Peebles, Innerleithen (Traquair House) and Melrose.

St Andrews, Aberdeen and Arbroath are worth walking. You need to go into the castle to get a good view down to Princes Street, oh, do a walk about Edinburgh New Town, well worth it.

Bought my first single on the high street in 1964, The Beatles I Feel Fine.

Funny how you remember these things , first album I bought with my own pocket money was nirvana never mind in 2004 in a music shop in Alghero in Sardinia on holiday when I was 15

Anyway you can do a tour of the Edinburgh castle as you did in this video? I was absolutely stunned at how amazing them buildings have stood up against time including during the German War with the air raids. REALLY hope my fiancé can take me there some day to see it! Thank you for sharing!

The Avengers also fought on the Roof of St Giles Cathedral. And Crashed through the Glass Roof of Waverley Train Station. Lots of Train-spotting filming was also shot in the City. O

I visited Edinburgh and the castle years ago, it seems different , the approach to it I mean when we were there! I remember there was a meat shop coming down from the castle that had meat hanging in the window, which we thought was very unusual compared to the USA!

@@GimbalWalkTV Compared to the 1970's and 80's The Royal Mile is very different to what it is now, for example it used to be full of hand crafted local Scottish kilt, cashmere and bagpipe makers etc, there were also all the usual businesses like butchers and bakers etc... during the 1990's the City Council began it's push to increase tourism within the City (the Royal Mile especially) allowing trading licences to be changed from conventional ones to more tourist specific licences. As a result a lot of the previously conventional businesses that you'd expect to see in any High Street were bought out and converted into gift shops (or as we call them in Edinburgh, Tartan tat shops). I understand why the City Council chose to go the route they did, it brings in a lot of money for the City, but it has somewhat killed (imo) what The Royal Mile used to be, and still should be... a living thriving street for the residents who live along it. Anyways, if my memory serves me right the butcher shop that Jan Trewitt is referring too was close to the mini roundabout at the top of Johnston Terrace, just as The Royal Mile changes from the Lawnmarket to Castlehill on the walk up to the castle.

Christmas shop is there all year round and has another on Victoria street also Canongate kirk was where Zara Phillips was married :)

Aye, it's always better to start at the top of the Royal Mile and walk down, than start at the bottom and walk up as it's quite a steady climb. It'll keep you fit though. :)

Thank you for this video. It was a bit gloomy in the beginning, however you haven't disappointed before so I watched on. Better buildings, wider street, finishing at the castle 🏰 was wonderful. Think I would need hours to count the statues, go down the closes & drag hubby out of the taverns. Mind you he would be dragging me out of the gift shops. Look forward to the next walk in Edinburgh. Thanks so much for the video. As a student many years ago I lived near the top of the Royal Mile, I felt very lucky!! I don’t think there were quite so many tourist shops then, it was a bit more real! If you have come as far as Edinburgh you’d love the East Neuk fishing villages and St Andrews!!

East Lothian is lovely too. Look north over the Forth to the East Neuk, all the historic villages from Largo round to St Andrews are very scenic! Have fun wherever you go anyway!

Hi David. I was there two weeks ago and saw many seniors walking up to the castle. If you feel you may not be able to walk it, the cab takes you to the gate. Good Luck and I hope you enjoy!

Just to add the building at the end as you describe it to be, is "The Royal Bank" and NOT the Museum. The Museum is in "Chamber Street". Its a great video.

@@GimbalWalkTV Two corrections, the bank that Alyysa refers to used to be the headquarters of The Bank of Scotland, not The Royal Bank of Scotland. It is actually a museum now, of money, which is odd given that the bank collapsed after the 2008 financial collapse and the headquarters have been converted into a museum of money. What is really at the the bottom of the Mound (at the junction with Princes St) though is an art gallery, The Royal Scottish Academy so technically there is a museum at the bottom of the Mound, just not the one in your video ;)

It’s a shame so many new buildings are mixed in 🥹 afterthought.little did you know how much this street would make more in Scottish History x❤❤and think of our new King and his siblings at there age having to do this 😢 but proud of them and to be Scottish here ❤
