    Wow! I really do not feel she ever had a clue of her chic style or unique beauty.....I look into those big eyes & I see so much unrequited sadness. Edie,the drugs destroyed the ornament that was you. Perfect song choice,great iconic photos! From a huge fashionista & Edie fan. Rest in peace now darling..... your demons don't cry out any longer!!

    You should read "Jean Stein's Edie: An American Biography" it gives the best insight into Edie's childhood, which had everything to do with who she was. She grew up completely isolated from anyone but family, till she went to boarding school, her Father controlled this bizarre life, her family was on the cover of Life magazine, her great, great, Gandfather signed the Declaration of Independence, & her family continues to be involved in important things, these things fascinated Andy.

    @xXPinkGoddessXx I think to recognize how special someone is when they are dead is too late, and to reach out or care about someone until someone is dead to is sad. There are a few who are just as s special and kind and beautiful and misunderstood as Edie. And like her while they are alive they are dismissed as difficult or a bitch ,but if they die they are classified as angels! Sad.because they are so they are misunderstood as Edie. I think there is a lesson to be learned here.

    @woobia In the words of Bob Neuwirth "She had a certian puritanical way of not letting her blues get in the way of her lifestyle" after she had been tricked by her Father while visiting for X-mas to be locked up in a Psych ward. X-mas before last her brother Bobby asked her to stay in NYC w/ him b/c their parents said he was not welcome home, she went & he killed himself on his motocycle, that cannot have been easy to live with, & the 2nd brother she lost to suicide.

    @woobia That is a valid concern. Edie could be seen as a beautiful wealthy junkie from a " historically good" family. When someone dies young, they remain young & beautiful forever in the eyes of others. However, I disagree that there have been"many more tragic stories than hers". I can't think of anyone(maybe Marlon Brando) whose story is even in the same realm of tragic as Edie's. That is what I personally admire about her, that she made the best of what life gave her to deal with.

    @woobia Her childhood was so abnormal ,totally isolated from the rest of the world, abused by one parent, not protected by the other, given massive amounts of drugs by her parents, she spent years in psych wards (& had a abortion) before being let out in the real world for the 2nd time in her life to attend Cambridge. That she self medicated & abused drugs can almost not be blamed on her, while a adult, having been isolated her development couldn't be normal. I respect her poise considering this

    @xXPinkGoddessXx I think to the people that knew her, some of them saw her in this complex way, but to the people who know nothing about her, or worse, think she is the Edie portrayed in Factory Girl, watching her videos so many years later, I think these people are simply attracted to her beauty & charisma.

    She was the FIRST it girl. She modelled and came from a family with money. Anglo Saxon I am talking old money rich. Her grandfather or invented Elevators and thats just the beginnin. She died at 28 of a drug overdose. Edie was the first and best and only IT GIRL.

    Her look is so modern she would not look out of place today. She was a contemporary with Twiggy but Twiggy didn’t transcend time, her look was very stylised almost caricature like.

    @woobia Edie had it as bad as MacKenzie, the drugs (her Father forced her to take massive amounts of some tranquizer when she saw him screwing the maid or someone), the sexual abuse, but I never heard Mackenzie say her Father physically abused her as well, so that is a close call. To quote someone who knew the family well "Edie can't help but be fucked up. Bad things happened to Edie."

    @jarileigh I agree with you about it being impossible to discern levels of pain.Why some suffer horrific childhoods(like children who spend years in concentration camps&the like)yet come through it is hard 2 grasp.There are so many variables yet sexual abuse victims seem to suffer more.Perhaps because they blame themselves,what do you think?A camp&the like are very black&white while sex is a big part of every1.It's hard 4 some victims 2 understand they were never given a choice&were ABUSED.

    @woobia I thought we were talking about the USA, since that is where she lived. I didn't say on the planet, it would be naturally assumed we were speaking of the same country/time period. What about women who were burned at the stake, or beheaded? What about biblical times when women were stoned for adultery?

    @MowgliX What led you2diagnoseEdie as schizophrenic then bipolar or a schizoaffective disorder?Why go2med.school?None of what you wrote makes sense.You've diagnosed her without even meeting her with illnesses that are very different from one another&although those illnesses present themselves in early adulthood&certain illnesses are possibly genetic,Edie had problems in chidhood like depression,low self-esteem&an extremely dysfunctional family which kept her stuck in a state she couldn't escape.

    @apokryphos117g I absolutely agree that sexual abuse victims suffer from the intimate nature of the crime, it warps the child's very identity & how they percieve themselves & the world. Shame, self blame, & resulting low self esteem is the norm. It's probable they will either become a molester in a attempt to get the power back they lost as a child, or become a stripper, marry someone abusive, etc & continue being a victim. Sex crimes are about power over another person, not just sex.

  • @jarileigh
    @jarileigh13 жыл бұрын

    @apokryphos117g Obviously victims will process the victimization differently, a child/victim of a concentration camp may be able to dicern how very wrong the people victimizing them are, there may be some form of support in some way of the utter evil that is being committed against them. Sexual abuse victims always blame themselves & rarely have any kind of support, in fact, in the case of Edie (& many others) her Mother supported the abuse by taking the side of the abuser.

    @apokryphos117g Sorry I repeated myself, I am so very tired! There was one incident where Mother took Edie to Europe & threatened to leave Fuzzy. Jonathan said it was over Edie's eating disorder, but it was over the sexual abuse, was living there alone, all the other kids were away at school, Fuzzy repeatedly said how sexy Edie was & let her drive the Mercedes.....& her sister was jealous! Edie lived there alone w/Fuzzy & the power level shifted in the family. Sick Poor MacKenzie even longer

  • @jarileigh

    @apokryphos117g Fiction, but Jenny in Forrest Gump lives the life a abuse victim, most look at her as a slut who used Forrest, she is acting out of severe pain & she will get no support from society, Jenny is the typical life of a sexually abused child. Sad :( In Edie's child play there was a kind Father who never hurt anyone, but there was NO Mother. None of the other kids spoke of their Mother in therapy, she condoned the abuse w/her silence, they resented/hated her for it on different levels.

    @woobia There may be people w/equally tragic stories, but to say there are many with "far more woeful stories" who aren't famous, I don't think that is at all accurate. There is NOTHING of normalcy, good or bad, in Edie's upbringing/life. Maybe the girl who was abducted by that pedophile & was forced to live in his backyard & bear his children, that is a more horrific story, but I think Edie's easily trumps most non-famous woeful stories. Incest, abuse on every level, 2 brothers suicides..on&on

    @jarileigh MaKenzie&her father had a sexual relationship for most of her life until he died.He shot her up with coke at 14&began a sexual relationship later when she was older.She never had a choice,he was her father!To survive that must be so hard.It scares me to think about it.As4 Edie,it was a neighbor&she was hospitalized.

  • @jarileigh
    @jarileigh13 жыл бұрын

    @apokryphos117g I believe that Edie was sexually abused by her Father, due to comments made by Edie, other people, & the dynamics going on in the family. Edie never had a choice, no child of abuse ever does, I think in the end it is impossible to dicern if one person's pain is worse than another's, but in my mind Edie was on par with MacKenzie Phillips, and I'm familiar with both stories.
